With Week 4 now behind us and Week 5 about to get underway later this evening, here are your updated adjusted net yards per passing attempt differential stats (ANY/A) for all 32 teams.
It’s still a bit early to give any hard analysis on these numbers, but we are starting to get a real good look at the teams that have played four games. Once all 32 teams have four games played, which will happen this week, I think we’ll be able to see at least ten teams that will make the playoffs based on their positive differential.
If you loo back at last season after Week 6, eight of the top nine teams in differential wound up making the playoffs. Only one team with a negative differential after Week 6 last season, the Green Bay Packers, wound up making the playoffs.
As for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are 2-2 heading into Week 5, they now have a positive differential. They also will play a Jacksonville Jaguars team this Sunday that has the worst offensive ANY/A stat in the league and the second worst differential.
I’ll keep reminding you that I like to use this stat as my own personal power rankings as it really encompasses all aspects of the passing game on both sides of the football. The stat does has it’s flaws, however, because it ignores running games, but after the first five or six games, I think you will see how effective this stat is when it comes to rankings.
