With six weeks of 2014 season now in the books, here are your updated adjusted net yards per passing attempt differential stats (ANY/A) for all 32 teams.
While there are still 11 weeks left in the season, there are five teams on the AFC side that I wouldn’t bet against making the playoffs.
At this point, it’s hard to imagine that the San Diego Chargers, Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts all won’t make the playoffs. Should that hold true it would mean that there’s one spot up for grabs in the AFC with nearly two-thirds of the season left to be played.
On the NFC side, it is still pretty much wide open based on this stat. As of right now, I would consider the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers both being locks.
As for the Pittsburgh Steelers, their ANY/A differential number is currently right near even. They are the perfect example of an average team right now and their 3-3 record certainly backs that up. Their game Monday night against the Houston Texans looms large as that is a team that they very well could be fighting with for the final playoff spot in the AFC.
Let’s also not forget about the Baltimore Ravens, who also come to Pittsburgh in a couple more weeks. In my opinion, the Steelers must win those two games and if they do, their ANY/A differential should reflect it. To be honest with you, I really think the Steelers can only afford to lose to the Colts before their bye week.
As for the Cleveland Browns, they certainly are in a great spot right now after beating the Steelers last Sunday. Over the course of the next three weeks, they play teams that have combined to win just one game so far this season. Thy very well could be 6-2 heading into the second half of the season and at that point you really would have to like their chances of making the playoffs.
