Report: Steelers Haven’t Scheduled Interviews With Any Outside Defensive Coordinator Candidates

According to Scott Brown of ESPN.com , the Pittsburgh Steelers have not scheduled any interviews with any outside candidates for their opening at defensive coordinator following Dick LeBeau resigning on Saturday.

Being as the Rooney Rule does not yet apply to the coordinator positions, the Steelers can freely promote from within without having to interview outside candidates.

Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler is expected to be the one promoted to defensive coordinator now that LeBeau is gone and he reportedly met with head coach Mike Tomlin Monday to discuss the job.

One would think that if Butler is indeed chosen to be the one to succeed LeBeau the Steelers would announce that news within a few days. Butler’s contract with the team expired at the end of the season and if not given the defensive coordinator job one would think he would look for employment elsewhere .
