The Pittsburgh Steelers had a busy Monday that included Arthur Moats and Matt Spaeth being re-signed and Antwon Blake, Robert Golden and Will Johnson all being given restricted tenders. Defensive end Brett Keisel was also released on Monday.
With all numbers now in, I thought I would give you an update as to what the Steelers salary cap situation looks like pending those numbers.
Please keep in mind that I factor in the rollover credits in my numbers along with the estimated workout bonus charges and veteran cap credit payback charges that should hit the books soon.
Currently, I have the Steelers projected as being $2,292,051 under the cap.
The Steelers still have to decide what to do with safety Troy Polamalu and keep in mind that there was talk that center Maurkice Pouncey might have his contract restructured. That restructure could potentially free up another $3.8 million in salary cap space.
As far as Polamalu goes, if released, the cap savings will be determined by whether or not he is tabbed as an immediate release or a post-June 1 release.
At some point we also expect that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will receiver an extension and the same goes for defensive end Cameron Heyward. Tackle Kelvin Beachum might also get a new deal later on in the summer.
