Tomlin Present At LSU Pro Day; Dined With CB Jalen Collins Thursday Night

As expected, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is present for the LSU Pro Day that is taking place on Friday. Tomlin admitted recently that LSU is one of his regular stops ahead of the annual draft.

“I go where the players are and, obviously, you look at what [Michigan State] Coach (Mark) Dantonio has done over there over that time period, it’s obvious that there are players there,” Tomlin said. “I go to LSU every year, I go to Florida State just about every year. I’ve gone probably to eight out of the last 10 Ohio State pro days. I’m a pro day guy, so don’t read too much into that.”

While Tomlin should be able to visit with several top LSU draft prospects on Friday, he won’t be able to see cornerback Jalen Collins do anything on the field as the underclassmen underwent foot surgery last week and thus will not be able to participate. The 6-foot-1, 203 pound Collins should be healthy by the time minicamps roll around, however.

Tackle La’el Collins, defensive end Danielle Hunter, linebacker Kwon Alexander, running back Terrence Magee, linebacker Jermauria Rasco and fullback Conner Neighbors are just a few of the other LSU players that will be on display Friday.

Collins is expected to be drafted in the first round and should that wind up being the case, it will be the first time that an LSU offensive lineman has been drafted in the first round since the Steelers drafted guard Alan Fanaca in 1998.

Jalen Collins and Hunter reportedly had dinner with Tomlin Thursday night, according to Lyons Yellin of WWL-TV.

…. Oh…. that does sound promising indeed. Jalen and Danielle are safe picks that provide depth as well.

I’m not a fan of Collins in the first round. He is a project, no ball awareness.

  • PittsburghSports

Really interested to see where Danielle Hunter goes. He has Jevon Kearse like measurables, but can’t seem to get the sacks. Where’s he go? 2nd rd? 5th rd? I think Jalen Collins is overrated, but definitely has a high ceiling. Both are high risk projects, but if Hunter goes high he could be the biggest bust in the draft.

  • Addison

Mayock has him #2 and Mayock sits at the right hand of God.

  • puCrepeaP

At least they aren’t ignoring the CB issue. i’m so so on Collins, less interested at 22. But I guess LSU has had some decent DBs over the years

  • James Kling

What does Mayock think of God’s measurables?

  • michaelinchains

Collins is an interesting prospect, although id rathar have Landon Collins at 22 if he’s there..starting 2 believe itll b Dupree at 22

  • Lucas Campbell

Hunter is a freak. He’s as raw as they come but if Joey Porter can scratch into his potential he can be a beast. Dude has vines for arms, what do they feed those boys down there in the bayou?!

  • puCrepeaP

Harrison might have a workout buddy that can keep up with him.

  • Devon Day

That’s what LSU usually prides themselves on. If anything, it is possible Japan didn’t get to start due to such circumstances.

  • steeltown

Both of those guys scare me. Awesome athleticism, size and measurables with both but low production and experience.

    私はジェイリンのも、日本の大ファンではない

  • Lucas Campbell

Hunter really scares me..I think he could be a far better pro than college player. There aren’t many 6-foot-6, 252-pounders running a 4.57, he’s totally hit or miss, Pro Bowl vs. bust potential

  • Addison

After 7 days his work ethic is questionable

  • falconsaftey43

He did show very well against the run, just not rushing the passer. At least he’s not building from nothing. All depends on where he gets drafted.

  • puCrepeaP

    Danielle is a girls name.

  • GoSteelerz

Probably what will make him a great player… Like “the boy named Sue”!!!! LOL

  • PittsburghSports

    Duh-neal

  • puCrepeaP

that reminds me of La Fawnduh from Napolean Dynamite

  • Vinhuddle

La Fawnduh cheerleaders for the Tigers.lol

  • Vinhuddle

And on the 8th day he created Mel Kipers hair.

  • JNick

    And it hasn’t moved since…

  • Vinhuddle

    Good one JNick!

  • Matt Manzo

    That’s awesome!!!!

  • Matt Manzo

What do we know about the foot surgery or injury?
And why did it creep up on us like that?
    Injuries make me cringe!

  • Vinhuddle

Good question. I’ve wondered if it was something from this past season and what took so long to have it repaired or what is something new. I haven’t heard the cause.

  • Ike Evans

Yea he’s not a ball hawk….. All these cb’s are projects tho, except maybe trae

  • blue

Callin CB Collins from LSU or SS Collins from BAMA is the Steelers pick in round 1

  • Ike Evans

Im on board with either…. Hunter for sure if we don’t address olb in the first 2 rounds

  • Steve Johnson

I like the kids height and arm length, but I wouldn’t touch him in the 1st round. Second at the earliest.

  • Lisa Ryan

and they didn’t invite me? drat

  • Vinhuddle

Your invitation must have been lost along with mine.

  • Rotten Sircus

If the Steelers go CB in the first round..I hope they go K.Johnson Wake Forest. Byron Jones UConn or my sleeper is Quentinn Rollins who can play safety & corner !!!

  • Steel_Man24

I say creating the earth, the stars, the sun, and everything else is a very awesome work ethic. What have you done in 7 days.
