God Mom’s Dream Resulted In Nickname For Dupree

During his Friday introductory press conference, new Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree was asked how he came about getting the nickname, “Bud.” Dupree, whose birth name is Alvin, proceeded to tell the story.

“Well, my God mom gave me the nickname Bud,” said Dupree. “One day she said she had a dream while my mom was pregnant before I was born and people were calling me Bud and I was playing football. And so they just really stuck with it and then the dream really came true.

That dream was really significant to Dupree this week and he said he brought his God mom with him to Chicago for the 2015 NFL Draft.

“It was a great opportunity for her just to get out of Georgia and finally see something else,” said Dupree. “She’s real happy about it and she loved hearing people calling me Bud.”

Friday also served as the first time that Dupree had ever been to the city of Pittsburgh.

“So far, so good,” said Dupree on his first experiences in the city that he figures to play in for the next several years. “I like what I’ve seen. I love the tunnel that we came out of. That was great, I’ve never seen anything like that before.”

Dupree is the son of Sophia Stephens and Alvin Dupree Sr. He was born 2/13/93 in Macon, Georgia and currently resides in Irwinton, Georgia.
