Steelers Injury Update: NT Daniel McCullers Could Be Limited In Practice This Week

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin held his weekly press conference on Tuesday and he updated the health of his team ahead of the game this coming Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.

Tomlin said that on the injury front there’s nothing major to speak of outside of the normal bumps and bruises but did add that nose tackle Daniel McCullers does have some swelling in his left knee.

“We’ll look at that and that may limit him and affect his availability, but we’ll know as we go throughout the week and monitor his practice or participation or abilities in that area,” said Tomlin.

McCullers likely injured his knee in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers when he was clipped in his left knee by right tackle Eric Pears. Pears was flagged on the play in question.

Tomlin was later asked about the status of cornerback Cortez Allen, who was held out this past Sunday with a knee injury.

“I haven’t checked on his status today,” said Tomlin. “Last week, obviously he wasn’t able to practice enough for me to decide to play him during the course of the game. We’ll check his knee inflammation this week and we’ll base those decisions on practice availability and performance like we did a week ago.”

Tomlin was them asked if Allen’s knee problem is something that could eventually wind up needing surgery.

“Not to my knowledge, not at this juncture, no,” said Tomlin.
