Clemson Safety Jayron Kearse Has Visit Scheduled With Steelers

Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert were at Clemson’s Pro Day and they’re apparently intent on using one of their 30 pre-draft visits on at least of the players they observed Thursday.

Safety Jayron Kearse told the media he has a visit lined up with five teams, including the Steelers. At the :55 second mark in this video, Kearse lists the teams he’s slated to talk to, courtesy of

Kearse also notes he is meeting with the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, and Jacksonville Jaguars. In an earlier question, he listed the Lions, Saints, and Buccaneers as the teams he’s talked to the most and ones he’s “gotten a good vibe” from.

He’s a huge frame at 6’4, 217 pounds who ran a 4.62 at the Combine. He jumped 31.5 inches in the vert and 10’4″ in the broad. He did, however, struggle today, according to Tony Pauline, who wrote the following blurb on

“Scouts were not impressed by the positional work of Jayron Kearse. He was not as nearly as quick or smooth when taking reps with Green or Alexander. As one source said, Kearse may be best off adding 20 pounds and moving to linebacker.”

In 2015, Kearse recorded 62 tackles, 6.5 of them for a loss, and intercepted one pass, forcing one fumble, and blocking one kick. He declared as a true junior and is projected to be drafted on Day Three. Expect a write up on him in the coming weeks from myself or someone else on the site. We’ll continue to track the Steelers’ official pre-draft visits too, as they are strong indications of who the team will target during the draft.

Tracking the pre draft visits is priceless when trying to figure out what steelers are gonna do during the draft.

    Interesting but not.

    No thank u

  • Kelly Walker

Well he certainly isn’t the next Freak. I was really disappointed in his combine performance and now to hear he sucked at his pro day. There is always a chance he is worth a 4th rnd pick. Heck they traded away a 3rd rnd pick for Shmarko.

This may be due diligence on a later round guy. He may be the best talent on the board at some point.

Nice to see these young men come in for a visit but drafting any if them is a long shot so I dont get to excited about the visit wish the league would from a 53 man roster to 60 and every so many add 1more until the roster gets to 65

He could be like a Dionne Buchanon and if the Pass D could morph into a 3-3-5 or a 3-5-3 it would make sense.

as a Clemson fan, no thanks. All you have to do is watch the national championship game to see him absolutely flayed alive by Alabama’s passing attack.

More like the next Gerod Holliman.

What happened to this guy? I tought he came into the season as one of the top safety prospects

  • Michael James

People watched film instead of only admiring his size 😉

  • Michael James

Sorry, but he is so far from it. Only comparable trait would be the body type, but he is much much worse in all other areas.

  • Michael James

No thanks. If he’s there in the 7th round, maybe, but this guy just isn’t a football player.

I think they’re looking more at Mckenzie.
