Duke S Jeremy Cash Scheduled For Friday Pre-Draft Visit With Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers pre-draft visits will begin cranking up on Friday as Duke safety Jeremy Cash revealed Thursday night in an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio that he will be visiting with the team tomorrow.

Cash, who measured in at the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine at 6003, 212-pounds, recorded 100 total tackles last season. According to STATS, Cash was targeted 28 times last season in pass coverage and allowed 19 catches and two touchdowns.

The Steelers are set to draft a safety this year even though they re-signed Robert Golden prior to the start of free agency. The team is also not expected to re-sign veteran safety Will Allen, who has started several games over the course of his career in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers figure to meet with quite a few defensive backs in April judging by the list of names that we’ve already been able to compile over the course of the last few weeks.

2016 NFL Draft Player Profiles: Duke LB/S Jeremy Cash

  • Jason Vancil

I love this kid. He’s an Alpha. He isn’t special in coverage, but he and Mitch would form an intimidating duo.

  • John

My understanding is he cannot cover anyone and had injury issues. Am I wrong?

  • CP72

Probably a sub package box player. Maybe replaces for Timmons in dime packages. Think he’s to stiff to play safety full time. “Targeted 28 times gave up 19 completions and two touchdowns”…..yikes!!

Maybe 4th round I’m okay with it.

  • Lost Loves

I don’t like his game. He makes a lot of tackles but misses many also. He is so dang lost in coverage that its scary. He is like Mark Barron of the Rams. Keep him within 10 yards of LOS and he is ok. There are way better Safety prospects than this guy.

  • vasteeler

I’d take sua cravens over cash any day of the week and cravens may not even be a pure safety

  • SFIC

All he is is a big hitter. In coverage a lot like Taylor Mays.

  • PittSteelers

Maybe we can turn him into a linebacker like the Rams did to Barron. Lol

  • PittsburghSports

Still waiting for him to work out. No combine or pro day. Supposed to be having a private workout in April. Not sure how wrist surgery would stop him from competing in the running drills. Pretty frustrating prospect to follow, along with Darian Thompson, who skipped all the agility and jumping drills today. Not going to see Karl Joseph workout before the draft either.

  • Matt Manzo

I’m really mad at DT right now!

  • Matt Manzo

    That’s what I hear, too!

  • Rusted Out

4th? Cmon man.. that’s harsh. This kid crumbles running backs. I’d love him in the second.

  • CP72

He’s great around the line of scrimmage, but would get exposed in the passing game.

If you’re drafting someone in the 2nd I would think you’re looking for a guy that has a more true safety ability not just a sub package player.

  • Shannon Stephenson

I never say no to cash but in this instance i must turn it down.

  • Shannon Stephenson

My partner in crime is right on as always.

  • Ask Questions Later

What the Rams (and the NFC West for that matter) are doing is something I stated was going to happen sooner than later. Due to the evolution of the passing game, in-the-box safeties are more than likely to be used as hybrids.

If Butler is trending in that direction, then there is no reason to say why Cash could not be the pick. If not him, TJ Green most definitely if available.

  • Ike Evans

    Nicely done

  • Ike Evans

This kid will wreck as a linebacker….may take him a lil while b4 hes playing safety at a consistent level
