April Fools Day: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions

Happy Friday to all of you and more importantly, welcome to the month of April. By the end of this month we will have several new Pittsburgh Steelers players to discuss and breakdown thoroughly for the remainder of the offseason. With that said, a few of us will have a couple more mock drafts for all of you to chew on this month along with several more player profiles.

As usual, I have five questions for you to answer on this Friday April Fools Day night and I hope several of you will oblige me with answers for all of them in the comments below.

A quick nugget, the next time April Fools Day falls on a Friday will be in 2022. I wonder who the Steelers quarterback will be then.

Have a safe and profitable weekend and thank you for visiting the site this past week. Peace and love, peace and love!

1 – Now that I have thoroughly broken down young cornerbacks Mackensie Alexander and Eli Apple for you in addition to providing you a Steelers draft study related to that specific position, what percent chance would you put on the team actually drafting either one of those players?

2 – The Steelers added yet another free agent on Thursday when they signed defensive lineman Ricardo Mathews to a one-year contract. Will the team sign another free agent prior to the draft, and if you think they will, what position will that player play?

3 – Name one player that continues to be forced into the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft by analyst that you believe will surely wind up being drafted in the second round.

4 – True or false: Linebacker Anthony Chickillo is a stone cold lock to make the Steelers final 53-man roster in 2016.

5 – I am currently working on compiling most all of the 2015 targets for William Jackson III for you and while that might take a while, I hope to have them done by next Friday at the latest. After that, I am open to doing at least one more cornerback prior to the draft and assuming I can find most of the tape, which player would you like to see me tackle?

  • Chris92021

    1. 1 percent. Hey, anything is possible!
    2. Yes. And I believe it will be a running back who can return kickoffs.
    3. Mackensie Alexander.
    4. Yes he is. He is going to be the Superstar of Latrobe: 2016.
    5. If it has to be a CB, then how about Xavien Howard?

    Enjoy the weekend, y’all.

  • JNick

    1. 20%. I still think they are looking safety in the first unless Spence or Billings slide.
    1. Yes. It’s obvious they are still looking at interior OL depth.
    3. Emmanuel Ogbah.
    4. Not a lock depending on how the draft shakes out but I give him a high probability due to his effectiveness on ST.
    5. I’m interested in J. Jones.

  • Nolrog

    1. Zero. Steelers are going to surprise everyone with their pick2. Yes. More depth at the DL position. 3. Alas, I don’t follow close enough to answer this. I just see who is being mocked to the Steelers in their latest update.4. False. I don’t think he is a stone cold lock, but I do think he will make it. He will need to earn that roster spot.5. No opinion. I enjoy reading them and referring back to them when there is a new mock, but I revert back to my answer for #3.Happy April Fools Day Everyone.

  • Big White

    1. 20% Neither are definitely > Golson
    2. Yes. Will Allen vet minimum
    3. RB Derrick Henry
    4. False. Noah Spence could be the 5th OLB, depending….
    5. WVU’s Darryl Worley

  • SkoolHouseRoxx

    1. Mack, 40% Apple 10%
    2. Yes and OL
    3. Paxton Lynch QB
    4. True special teams lock
    5. Johnathan Jones CB Auburn

  • GoSteelerz

    1. 10% I wish it was lower, but we never really know what they’re really thinking. And sometimes that’s even after the fact! LOL
    2. I doubt it, but if so maybe a RB/KR.
    3. Mackenzie Alexander.
    4. I’d say yes. I don’t see him taking a step backwards, so a solid guy with his arrow pointing up at a position where we need depth? Yes, I think he makes it.
    5. Mike Hilton from Ole Miss. Looks like the real deal to me in all facets of the game. He’s getting criminally little fanfare, and I think he’s a guy who would fit in great with our team. Both as a base starter and in sub packages. Even if you don’t end up doing a breakdown of him, please do yourself a favor and watch him and maybe give some of your thoughts on him. I’m confident you won’t be disappointed!

  • GoSteelerz

I’ve been curious about Worley. Seems like he has the size and overall talent. But he’s a headcase, and I think that’s why his stock has dropped as we approach the draft. There is still time for him to get it together, but he’ll really have to prove it to whoever drafts him, and then keep it going for his whole career. For his sake, I hope he does.

  • chris ward

    1. 40 percent.
    2. I doubt it.
    3. Mackensie Alexander.
    4. False. Think Chickillo will likely make the 53-man roster, but he’s not a stone cold lock.
    5. Jonathan Jones.

  • Big White

From what i understand, he got into a girlfriend argument with some mutual pushing and shoving. Got charged with Battery, went into a deferment program, was reinstated at WVU only to have a great season in 2016. Projected as a 5th or 6th round pick which would be just fine by me. Perhaps being right down the road in Morgantown, the Steelers probably already know if it was something minor or a pattern.

  • Big White

Check that. The altercation involved Worley pushing a woman to the ground who was in the midst of assaulting his girlfriend. Reinstated weeks later.

  • Garrett Hunt

    1. Less than 15%
    2. Nope
    3. Eli Apple. It seems like cornerback and quarterback have the most 1st round reaches to me.
    4. Definitely not a lock
    5. Any day three corner. It would be nice to see the difference in quality

  • Jeff Papiernik

    1. <10%
    2. I would lean towards no, but if they did, it would probably be more depth along the OL or DL
    3. Robert Nkemdiche
    4. False. He will make it I believe, but I wouldn't say it's a lock.
    5. Let's go with one who is a senior, likely to be taken in the first 4 rounds, and who the Steelers are hosting for a pre-draft visit (all indicators that he has a great chance of being selected). So I'll say Jonathan Jones.

  • Frank Cordaro

    1) 35%
    2) Yes either the OL or WR
    3) CB Kendall Fuller
    4) Yes he will but majority on ST’s
    5) Im interested in KeiVarae Russell out ND.

  • PaeperCup

    1. 10%. I see them taking a safety before a CB, but perhaps an edge rusher or DL even before S. Eli Apple is rubbish haha, Mac Alexander I like a lot, but he’s a hard one to judge because of the team he played for.
    2. Yes, someone.
    3. Any Safety. I don’t think a single safety will be taken in the 1st.
    4. True. Stone cold. This will be because of his own hard work.
    5. Jalen Ramsey. I’d like to just see the difference between the highest rated CB and the ones that may be available when it’s the Steelers turn to pick.

  • Matt Manzo

1: 5% chance for Apple. Speed, size and Ohio State! 0% for Alexander, too soft.

    2: Maybe a Guard.

    3: Floyd from Georgia.

4: True. With the defection of ST players, I think we’ll hold on to Chick

    5: Eric Murray! Pretty please!!!

  • Jj Townsend

    1. I would say 25% chance if both are still on the board. If they are, then it probably means that a few players the Steelers want are already drafted.

    2. Less than 15% chance. If they do, it would probably be an OL.

    3. Robert Nkemdiche and Jaylon Smith

    4. False, I think an edge rusher is added through the draft, so Chick will need to up his special teams play.

    5. Maybe the CB out of Notre Dame…

  • Jj Townsend

    Keivarae Russell

  • SteelerFanInMD

    1. Both seem to be in the top 4 CBs on everyone’s list and at least 3 CBs have been taken in the first round each of the past 5 years. I think maybe a 10% chance that one will be available, but with the Steelers’ history with #1 drafting picks, I will lower it to 5%.
    2. I think they will sign another FA. The position will be QB. I say they bring back Gradkowski.
    3. Noah Spence. I think his baggage will push him down the draft board.
    4. True.
    5. Have you reported on Jalen Mills, LSU?

  • gjnn

    1. 10%. I think they go D-Line or S in the first – I’d rank CB joint 3rd most likely along with WR.
    2. I don’t think they will.
    3. Noah Spence.
    4. False but there’s a 75% chance.
    5. Harlan Miller – though I’d imagine the tape may not be the lowest hanging fruit…

  • Darth Blount 47

    1. Likely 5% or less. I think, (as do I honestly), that they like Will Jack III more, or so I hope.
    2. Leaning towards no, but if so, I could see Gradkowski.
    3. Mack Alexander
    4. False. But I do like his chances. Say… 98.6%
    5. Xavien Howard. CB, Baylor Bears.

  • Dubai Steeler

    1) 5% for both of them.

Any chance you think VHIII drops in the 1st? He is the only CB that I strongly think the steelers would take in the 1st round if he fell.

    2) Doubt anyone else prior to the draft, so NO.

    3) Spence

    4) True

    5) Jonathan Jones

  • Brian Tollini

    1. 10%.
    2. I am going to say the Steelers are done in FA, but if they added someone I think it would be along the D-Line.
    3. Leonard Floyd-OLB Georgia. I know pass rushers are in demand and in this is a fairly weak class, but I am just not seeing 1st round from him. A lot seem to have him #1 or #2 edge rusher though.
    4. I think he will make it, I want him to make it, and he should make it, but a lead pipe lock? I won’t say that.
    5. I am with Alex on the Jonathan Jones bandwagon.

  • Ivanho

    1. 25%. I hope they are both already gone but I think at least one will drop and be a consideration
    2. Yes an OL
    3. Kevin Dodd
    4. Not a lock but has a good chance
    5. Maurice Canady. Senior with a lot of games under his belt, good speed and in the range of CB the Steelers draft. Can also return kicks.

  • ginko18

    1. Under 25%
    2. No.
    3. Robert Nkemdiche
    4. True
    5. DeAndre Elliot (since staff attend Pro Day) or Kendall Fuller

    Have a fantastic weekend!!

  • Jj Townsend

Is he the one that got in trouble? If so I would take a late round pick on him.

  • Michael James

    1. Alexander 5%, Apple 3%
    2. Maybe one at OL, otherwise I don’t see another signing
    3. Ogbah
    4. Not a stone cold lock, but I think he will make it if nothing very surprising happens
    5. Artie Burns

  • Shannon Stephenson

    1. 10%. Unless they fall to in the 2nd I just do not see them being drafted by us but then they will be gone before we draft in the 2nd.
    2. Yes. I would like it to be a safety but they have been kicking around the tires on Guard so that is my prediction. GUARD.
    3. Robert Nkemdiche
    4. No. He did show some things in practice but did not translate to the preseason games. He needs growth to remain on this team.
    5. Kendall Fuller

  • SteelerFanInMD

He failed drug tests and was banned from the big 10.

  • SteelerFanInMD

Steelers already have Martavis’s drug habit to deal with. I don’t think they want to take a chance on another player with a history of failing drug tests.

  • Tom Jackson

    1. 15-20% maybe. I think the #1 Corner on our board is WJ3 right now and then you have guys like Billings on the DLine and potentially OLB prospects that could be above Alexander and Apple right now.

    2. No I don’t think we add another one before the end of april. But if so I would guess Interior OLineman since thats the position they bring players in from.

    3. Kyle Fuller. He’s a talented player, I like him quite a bit but I think people do him a disservice to project him in the 1st RND.

    4. False. Why stone cold lock? We have 5 guys right now on the roster that have a good chance to get on the 53 man roster. Chickillo is one of the if not the last guy in that group and if we draft a OLB fairly early he has his work cut out to get on the roster.

    5. Kyle Fuller 2014 or Artie Burns 2015 would be good. I’d like Fuller more because I don’t think Burns has a shot to be there at 2 for us. He seems like a guy cut out for an early or middle 2nd RND selection.

If you wanna go a little more under the radar I’d like KeiVarae Russell from Notre Dame. Would like to see more of him but a talented guy that could be a steal in middle RNDs.

  • RickM

    1. 20% with Ohio State’s Apple the favorite if we go CB. Unfortunately.
    2. May add another minimum guy. Cheap external guys seems the D pattern since signing Mitchell in ’14.
    3. Tough question. Will read the draft experts’ answers as very unsure what legitimate #1 will fall that far.
    4. Far from a lock.
    5. Someone projected mid to late 2nd round.

  • John21

    1. 25%–50% that they will go cb. Then 50% that they will take MA ( hope not) or EA.
    2. No more FAs
    3. Taylor Decker
    4. False Not a lock
    5.. Artie Burns

  • Rob Olzer

    1. 15 percent
    2.No
    3.Robert Nkemdiche
    4.True.
    5.The ole miss corner.

  • 1.) 99% if either are still on the board, but 0% if we pick up a high-level CB from another team before the draft.

    2.) Yes. NT.

    3.) Spence

    4.) I wouldn’t say ‘stone-cold’ lock, but I’d be surprised if he didn’t make the final 53.

5.) CB Canady (6-1 / 193 lbs.) He’s good inside in the nickel AND he’s athletic enough to shadow receivers on the outside. Good speed. Good at returning punts. Didn’t he return one 75 yards for a TD against William & Mary? Caused 10 turnovers during his college career. 5 were INTs.

  • GoSteelerz

I think you mean CB Mike Hilton from Ole Miss. I’m probably his biggest fan! LOL I keep trying to get people to look him up. I think they’d find that he’s just as good if not better than the “top” CB prospects. I can’t think of any reason why he’s not getting noticed other than he’s a small guy. Just watch the tape though, he routinely beats guys bigger than he is, even manhandles them at times! He’s an excellent tackler, able to wrap up and punish big dudes. Totally fearless, I love his game!
