The Pittsburgh Steelers placing Ladarius Green on Reserve/PUP means he will miss the first six weeks of the season.
But Kevin Colbert believes Green could be ready before then and seemed to imply he’ll be ready to join the team as soon as he is eligible.
Colbert joined Bob Pompeani on KDKA’s pre-game show and was asked about the frustration level by placing Green on PUP.
“We knew the ankle was going to be touch and go right up until training camp. That’s why we put him on Active/PUP. And you get to this point of the season you either have to activate him or put him on Reserve/PUP. And that buys us another six weeks. I think he could probably come back before that six but if it’s three or four, why not give him the extra two weeks to make sure he’s 100% and he takes care of himself and is ready for the long-run.”
Just to be clear, Green is not able to return any earlier than Week 7, October 23rd against the New England Patriots. But Colbert is taking an optimistic route, and hopefully earnest in that hope, in predicting when Green will be at full health.
Officially, he has been placed on PUP due to offseason ankle surgery. There have been several reports, locally and nationally, Green has been dealing with headaches that stem from concussions he suffered last year with the San Diego Chargers.
Green will have until Week 11, November 20th against the Cleveland Browns, to begin practicing. If he does not, he will spend the entire year on injured reserve.
