One, Maybe Two More Roster Moves Likely Coming Sunday For Steelers

Now that the Pittsburgh Steelers have set their initial 53-man roster for the 2016 regular season, one can easily speculate it will change some over the course of the next two days.

As expected, the Steelers kept injured second-year cornerback Senquez Golson on their initial 53-man roster and one would think he’ll be placed on the team’s Reserve/Injured list sometime Sunday or Monday. By moving him to the Reserve/Injured list, that will open up one roster spot which could ultimately go to second-year cornerback Doran Grant, who was waived by the team on Saturday, or a another young cornerback with upside who was waived or released by a different team on Saturday.

Sterling Moore, Pierre Desir, Kalan Reed, and Alex Carter are just a few of the several cornerbacks who were cut over the course of the last two days who might interest the Steelers as they’ve had documented interest in all four in the past. However, if the team doesn’t consider any cornerback currently on the street and upgrade over Grant, perhaps they should just carry Golson on their 53-man roster for the time being. After all, the team needs seven inactive players every week and they could always still place him on Reserve/Injured anytime moving forward should they get in a pinch and need an extra roster spot due to other injuries.

In addition to possibly seeing some flipping on the 53-man roster at the cornerback position in the coming days, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the tight end position group upgraded as well. While Xavier Grimble made Saturday’s version of the 53-man roster, it is in no way a guarantee he’ll keep his soot. Several seemingly upgrades hit the street on Saturday and one would think the Steelers will consider looking at that group of players very hard. Logan Paulsen and Rob Housler are two of the older and experienced tight ends now available while Henry Krieger Coble is one of this year’s undrafted free agents with possible long-term upside.

In summation, Sunday doesn’t figure to be a quiet day for the Steelers and by the end of it we very well might be discussing a few more new players.
