Steelers Activate RB Le’Veon Bell To 53-Man Roster; RB Daryl Richardson Waived

As expected, the Pittsburgh Steelers have now placed running back Le’Veon Bell back on their 53-man roster and as a result of that move the team waived running back Daryl Richardson in order to make room for him.

The Steelers were given a roster exemption for Bell earlier this week now that he’s served his three-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy and that was set to expire at 4 p.m. EST Thursday.

Richardson had been with the Steelers since he signed a Reserve/Futures contract with them this past January. While Richardson did dress and play in each of the Steelers first three regular season games, he only registered 2 carries for 7 yards in the 5 total offensive snaps that he played.

It will now be interesting to see if Richardson makes it back to the team’s practice squad after being waived on Thursday.

Why does this feel like a mistake? It’s as if they had to rush their decision, being up against the deadline.

  • SteelersDepot

Easy choice and the right one IMHO

  • Jeff McNeill

    Very easy choice.

Why is it the right choice

  • SteelersDepot

Don’t need 4 RBs for starters on the 53. Second, DR is not a strong special teams player. 3rd, with shazier sidelined and Timmons banged up, can’t cut Steven Johnson.

  • Steelers12

damn i was hoping he was the one we kept

  • Beaver Falls Hosiery

Lot’;s of RB injuries around the league. Hope he’s not poached; I thought he showed a lot of burst as a runner though not so sure about his blocking.

    Who’s better, Cobb or Richardson?

  • connfyoozed .

I would say it depends on what you are looking for. As a potential to be developed into an every-down back to play in case of injury to Bell or Williams, it would be Cobb. If you wanted a potential 3rd-down/receiving type of back, I would say Richardson. It would be ideal if they could keep both Cobb and Richardson around this season as insurance.

I don’t think it’s smart with our history of rb problems

  • Daniel

Man Richardson showed more than what cobb wth

  • connfyoozed .

Worst case scenario, if they lose Richardson they still have David Cobb on the PS. Cobb is younger and also has prior NFL experience. I like Daryl Richardson a lot as depth, but he’s been on 4 teams in the past 3 years without playing in a game for a reason: he has enough limitations that he will never be a prime contributor on an NFL team. Touissant is more important and more likely to contribute to the team at this point.

  • Daniel

He will get picked up watch

After a poor performance, it’s time to unleash Bell in October.

  • NW86

You think another team is going to steal him?

  • Clifford Taz Johnson

    Idk maybe

  • Matt Manzo

Richardson might be better at this moment, but I like who Cobb could be.

  • Matt Manzo

Welcome back Leveon! Now go get that!

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

I like Richardson better than Fitz too

  • Ray

There is a strange obsession with Daryl Richardson. Yes he was solid in camp but he’s being vastly overrated.

  • John Noh

No doubt. Touissant has certainly shown enough the last two seasons to merit that last spot.

  • PittsburghSports

You can say the same about Fitz, especially his special teams ability, particularly as a kick returner. In that sense it really doesn’t matter which one was cut. They both suck. I think Richardson was the better runner.

  • Ray

I’m with you…I don’t think either player holds much value and I think there are a lot of Steelers fans that believe both are better than they really are.
