Steelers Vs. Eagles: Player Snap Counts – Week 3

The Pittsburgh Steelers lost 34-3 to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday and now enter Week 4 of the 2016 regular season with a record of 2-1. The initial snap counts from the Week 3 road game are now in and as usual, here is a recap of the notable numbers from the most recent game.

Offensively, guard Ramon Foster only played 22 snaps before giving way to B.J. Finney at left guard due to an injury. These offensive snaps played by Finney were the first of his career.

In his 2016 debut, wide receiver Markus Wheaton played 27 snaps and they wound up being 27 he’d like to forget.

Young tight end Xavier Grimble only played 6 snaps against the Eagles due to the offense having to play from behind and fellow tight end David Johnson only played 7.

Defensively for the Steelers, safety Robert Golden only played 10 snaps before having to leave the game with a hamstring injury and linebacker Lawrence Timmons played just 17 snaps before going to the hospital with a lower leg injury.

As you can see in the snap distribution below, the Steelers were forced to play a lot of base and nickel against the Eagles once Golden left the game in addition to the score getting out of hand. Not much dime personnel at all.

Rookie linebacker Tyler Matakevich played one snap and that came as part of a goal-line defense in the second half. Backup inside linebackers Vince Williams and L.J. Fort both played more than 50% of the defensive snaps on Sunday due to injuries.
