Sean Davis Named Steelers’ Joe Greene Award Winner As Team’s Top Rookie Of 2016

The votes are in and Pittsburgh Steelers safety Sean Davis has earned the “Joe Greene Great Performance Award,” presented by the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America for him being voted the team’s top rookie in 2016.

Davis, who was drafted in the second round this year by the Steelers out of Maryland, enters the final week of the regular season with 61 total tackles, a half a sack, five passes defensed and an interception. He has started 8 games so far this season and has played 662 total defensive snaps.

This past Sunday in the Steelers win over the Baltimore Ravens, Davis had a huge fourth quarter pass breakup in the end zone that saved a touchdown. The rookie safety has played increasing better against both the pass and the run as the season has progressed.

While strong arguments can be made for fellow rookie draft picks, cornerback Artie Burns and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, each being deserving of winning the Steelers annual top rookie award, Davis was the right choice in my opinion.
