Steelers Injury Report: Williams Sits Thursday; Foster, Finney, Hargrave Full Participants

It’s now looking like the Pittsburgh Steelers won’t be getting get one of their key offensive backups back this weekend for their road game against the Cincinatti Bengals.

According to the Steelers Thursday injury report, running back DeAngelo Williams (knee) failed to practice earlier in the day. Williams was listed as practicing fully on Wednesday so his knee must not have responded well to that work. Also sitting out Thursday were wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot) and safety Shamarko Thomas (concussion). Neither are expected to play against the Bengals.

There was some good news on the Steelers Thursday injury report, however, as tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle), center Maurkice Pouncey (not injury related), quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (not injury related), guard B.J. Finney (concussion), guard Ramon Foster (chest), and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (concussion) all practiced fully. Gilbert was listed Wednesday as being limited.

Foster and Hargrave both missed the Steelers game this past Sunday against the Buffalo Bills with their injuries. As for Finney, it looks like he’s on track to play against the Bengals after being placed in concussion protocol following the game against the Bills.

I still to this day don’t know what the injury to Deangelo’s knee is. Any insight? Surely he hasn’t been out for 10+ weeks with swelling.

  • Gluebucket

He had surgery I believe. I don’t remember what the exact issue was, though.

  • VaDave

Cartilage tear. Scoped to clean up tear is the official word. If I’m not mistaken, he has had knee issues in the past. I’m not sure which one or both. I hope he didn’t have the micro graft, which means he on his last legs.

  • NW86

As VaDave just mentioned, after he missed a few weeks, then they decided he needed a scope to clean up a small cartilage tear. Still though, even after the surgery, Tomlin has sounded optimistic for about the past 3 Tuesdays that DeAngelo was going to play that week, and he hasn’t done it yet so that is frustrating. I’m hoping that they’re just being extremely cautious and that if it were the playoffs he would be playing. Who knows. With or without DeAngelo, I’m hoping Bell doesn’t have to take 35+ touches this week.

You know what would be amazing to see? The Steelers running an unbalanced OLine with BOTH Finney AND Foster. Finney pulling Right, Decastro pulling Left in front of both Nix and Bell.

  • treeher

Old knees don’t recover as fast as young ones. See Bell vs. Williams.

  • D.j. Hoy

Good news all around. I’m happiest about Hargrave getting back into action. That dude is disruptive.

I wish we would have Dwill, but that looks like it’s not going to happen. I still think his workload will go up since Bell can be a deadly receiver.

Right now, is Bell the best redzone fade runner on the team?

  • Michael James

I really hope DWill hasn’t had a serious setback.

  • george

Nice play. It would be a happy ending if Burfect ended up on the bottom of that pile!

  • Sam Clonch

No. I was at the Colts game, and got the closeup of AB killing Davis.

  • SilverSteel

There is no reason we can’t have Toussaint coming in for a few plays especially the way the O line has been opening up holes. He blocks well, protects the QB, catches out of the backfield – what more do you want from a backup? Heck we have him returning kicks for goodness sakes…

  • Sam Clonch

Effing Karlos Williams….could really use a capable backup, no offense to Fitz.

  • Jeff Papiernik

I’ve had the same surgery as DWill. Basically after practicing on it (I was in wrestling), it tended to swell up and I’d have to ice it down. His probably did the same thing and they probably just are being cautious. After a a couple weeks though, it stops swelling up after practices.

  • SilverSteel

So I see the Patriots claimed Michael Floyd off of waivers which means we could have claimed him. hmmm Could have been a field stretcher.

  • Josh Gustad

And the only reason I bring this up is for the last point you just made. Bell getting 35+ touches is a lot for ANYBODY. I understand Bell isn’t just anybody, but for someone with two knee surgeries, we need to be smarter with his usage. Deangelo needs to make it back by next week.

  • Preston Coe

Bell’s knee was majorly jacked. He had major surgery, and came back a year later. Your correct though…it younger does rebound better, but these were two very different injuries.

  • SkoolHouseRoxx

What exactly is Heyward Bey’s injury?

  • NinjaMountie

I just hope DWill is healthy for the playoffs in case something happens to Bell for a game (we have the Bengals coming up). I’d hate to go into another postseason without either of them again.

  • MC

Great news to hear Hargrave will play. I wanna see the rookie trio back in full effect!

  • Robert Builder

good news aside from Williams… I’m beginning to wonder if Thomas and Golson are twins?

  • Michael Mosgrove

nix was sorely mmissed on st as dhb is. thomas a subpar player, who to some is a good st player, needs to be replaced by someone soon.

  • Constantinople

sooooo is Finney getting the start over Foster, if he’s good to play? I sure hope so. Nothing against Foster, he’s certainly a decent guard, but Finney is clearly better, and younger.

  • Matt Manzo

So we should expect Hargrave, Foster and Finney to all be healthy for Sunday?!
I’m still a little worried about Gilbert.

  • HiVul

Foster is having a really good year actually, better than Decastro’s according to many.

  • Dorian James

Damn I was hoping D’Angelo would be able to play because I’m not digging running Bell into the ground
