The Terrible Podcast – Talking Steelers Injury Report, Tomlin Tuesday, Listener Emails & More

Season 7, Episode 54 of The Terrible Podcast is now up and in this Wednesday show, David Todd and I are all over the place with our discussions.

We talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers injury report heading into their week 15 game against the Cincinnati Bengals to start and make sure to hit on several things that head coach Mike Tomlin had to say Tuesday during his weekly press conference.

We look at where the Steelers are record wise right now compared to where we thought they might be at this point of the season way back in September.

We talk about the upcoming game against the Bengals as it relates to personnel they’ll have this time around that they didn’t have in the week 2 game between the two teams.

The Baltimore Ravens lost to the New England Patriots Monday night so we talk a little about that game and where both teams are at strength-wise.

We discuss the promotion of Demarcus Ayers as well as the two players the Steelers signed to their practice squad on Tuesday.

We have time for a few listener emails in this episode and get a great one concerning wide receiver Sammie Coates.

As always, several other smaller talking points are mixed in throughout the show that are not highlighted here in this post.

  • Dave Bryan, I remember you took the 11-5 this year because it was out of your 10-6 normal.

11-5 is possible for the Steelers although it’s probably not how would all would have though we got there with a 4 game loosing streak in the middle of the season, but I’ll take it all the same.

    Very informative … as usual.

  • A question re looking ahead [and a point re the vital importance of winning this week], IF we lose to either the Bengals or Browns but beat the Ravens [finishing 10-6], we’d still be the #3 seed unless the Texans win their division also at 10-6. Therefore, if we beat the Bengals and Ravens, the Steelers would be playing the Browns already locked into having a playoff game the following week—and maybe locked into the #3 seed—so beating the Bengals is crucial if Tomlin hopes to rest Ben, Bell, Brown, Shazier, Tuitt, and maybe ALL the starters against the Browns. Beating the Bengals would essentially give us a rare week off “bye” week against the Browns IF we beat the Ravens. If this was to occur–us beating the Ravens and Bengals–do you think Tomlin would sit his stars against the Browns?

  • SteelersDepot

All those ifs make my head hurt.

  • srdan

me too. I’m with mike on this…..let’s worry about the stadium we are in.

  • srdan

Truth is other teams have to watch and talk about sammie just like you do. It’s not like you want a guy like that creeping onto the field without your DBs knowing his ability. It’s not coby. This is less true for the division, but in general, I bet you defensive coordinators list this guy high in their game plans.

  • Phil Brenneman II

Wanted to touch on one thing I disagree with as an overall point but not the reasoning you gave DB. You said you would prefer Green/Bernard out over Burfict and Eiffert. From a skill perspective I think you were right and I agree. However, I don’t trust Burfict to play a “nice” game against us and if we want to make a playoff run we can’t have guys like Bell and AB in danger.

The obvious worry is Bell. Not only is he our MVP so far this season, but he touches the ball more than anyone on the team and would be running right into Burficts area all game. I don’t like it not one bit and I really hope we come out clean from Sunday.
