The Terrible Podcast – Talking Steelers Ravens Preview With John Eisenberg, Tomlin Tuesday, Pro Bowl Snubs & More

Season 7, Episode 57 of The Terrible Podcast is now up and in this Wednesday show, David Todd and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers upcoming game Christmas night against the Baltimore Ravens.

Will Steelers defense end Stephon Tuitt and tight end Ladarius Green ultimately be able to play against the Ravens? We discuss the status of both inured players along with the rest of the injury report that head coach Mike Tomlin provided Tuesday during his weekly press conference.

Just how good are the Ravens this year and especially on the road? We discuss that topic and whether or not their defense can win them a few playoff games should they ultimately make it to the postseason.

Tomlin gave us a few other talking points to chew on yesterday so David and I go over a few of those. Will special teams coordinator Danny Smith be gone after the season? We discuss that topic as well.

The 2017 Pro Bowl team was announced on Tuesday so David and I go over the Steelers players who were selected along with a few who weren’t. Was linebacker Ryan Shazier snubbed? What about safety Mike Mitchell and tackle Marcus Gilbert?

In the second half of the show David and I are once again joined by John Eisenberg, who covers the Ravens for the team’s official website. As usual, we get John’s insight on the Ravens ahead of the forthcoming contest. He also gives us his prediction for the game.

We take a few questions from listeners during this show as well.

As always, several other smaller talking points are mixed in throughout the show that are not highlighted here in this post.

DT I consistently hear you bring up Mitchell and I feel like maybe you are watching a different guy than the rest of us. I get that I am harder on him than most, but even putting that aside he has played what? 3 legitimately good games this entire season and has been for a lot of the season at the top or very close to in missed tackles on our team.

In fairness, I haven’t followed the others choices that closely but Mitchell isn’t having a great season by any stretch. It has been an okay season with a good recent stretch. So unless the 2 safeties they chose are bad, I don’t see how there is any argument to be made he was snubbed.

did you really criticize Coates’ return because he broke a tackle? how is that a negative that he “should have been tackled at the 20?” He wasnt, he broke the tackle and took off. Seems more like something worthy of praise

Jeremy I agree with what Dave said. Coates was essentially stopped at the 20 he only got loose because of some bad tackling he didn’t break a tackle. Fact is Sammie’s not very good running in the open field because he’s not elusive. He runs towards the sidelines and never makes any moves in the open field just tries to use his speed but always gets ran out of bounds. He’s not a bad returner but the Steelers have better options.

I think using the Dolphins as a measuring stick is bad. Have to think back to when the ‘Phins played the Browns. The Browns looked as if they were going to put a serious beat down on Miami, but lost late in the game. Miami is a true Jekyll and Hyde persona in this league. Nobody knows which team will show up, as, they have the talent to win, but they don’t always perform as expected.
