    Dave –

This is my favorite thread you post all year (combine results). I refer to it constantly. Thanks again.

Let the butterflys, sweating, grunting, groaning and that feeling of pressure induced nausea begin! Then we can talk about what the players were doing.

Fournette is, so far, killing his draft stock. I’ll bet he runs a slow 40. Dismill in the vertical and DNP in Broad. Cook not impressing so far, either. Good thing they have great tape.

  • PaeperCup

He can drive his Porsche right over to ABs garage

  • Fournette at a 4.51 in his first attempt. Like analysts were saying he’s not a guy who jumps. Fournette sad the same himself, 4.51 at 240 is BEAST

  • Ike Evans

Tj logan 4.37…….had him in my mock….hes a home run threat

  • NinjaMountie

Yup…he fixed his combine right up.

  • Darth Blount 47

McCaffrey on the other hand, had to have, after a disappointing bench. He comes back and I just read that he does this…

“There has been one running back taken in the first round since 2006 who ran a 4.48 (or faster) 40-yard dash, had at least a 37.5-inch vertical and a 121-inch broad jump — Adrian Peterson in 2007. Christian McCaffrey reached all of those marks Friday at the combine.”

  • PaeperCup

Yeah, that vertical says a lot….that’s huge

  • NinjaMountie

Yeah, other than his Bench, he had a great combine. Really…no one cares he only benched 10 reps. I think he’ll make a pretty good NFL RB.

  • Matt Manzo

I can’t scroll left or right on any position other than OL!
    Anything amazing happen today?!

  • Jason Vancil

My ? on Fournette is can he be effective if he can’t go north-south. IOW, I have not seen him be effective when he didn’t have a full head of steam, un-impeded at the LOS.

  • Jason Vancil

Prob the best KO Returner in draft.

  • SilverSteel

    Good one 🙂

John Ross just ran a BLISTERING 4.22, BEATING Chris Johnson, won himself an island, and then came up immediately limping. Wow! Unreal!!!

  • Darth Blount 47

Fine print (of course there is fine print) says that you HAVE to wear Adidas, and agree to sign with Adidas, AND that Adidas can sub out a One Million dollar prize INSTEAD of the island. I say…. even though Ross apparently wore Nike… GIVE THAT MAN AN ISLAND!!!

  • PaeperCup

Holy cow. al Davis jumping out of his grave

  • Darth Blount 47

Absolute craziest part is, it legitimately looked like Ross left a few tenths on the field. Before he came up limping at the very end, I was saying to myself… “I think he can go sub 4.2!!!” He looked like he was shot out of a cannon. Little dude can fly! Dude definitely had on his PF Flyers!

  • Applebite

Yep… you’re not pairing Will Gay up on him, that’s for sure, lol. J. Ross would burn the holy bejeezus out of a lot of CBs in the league right now…

  • Darth Blount 47

Charlie Casserly hand timed Ross at a …. 4.19! Just said it was the fastest hand time he’s ever seen!

  • I think he will Ben ok, definitely not on bells level

  • PaeperCup

Ahhh official time is 4.26? lame

  • Darth Blount 47

That is lame! They talked to multiple people who all had differing times. From 4.19 to 4.26. Guess they went with the 4.26. Unofficial electronic was 4.22. I smell bologna. Lol.

  • Jon Crissinger

Sigh… There goes my pipe dream of drafting John Ross.

  • Darth Blount 47

I just read the NFL certified the official time as the 4.22!

  • Applebite

Samaje’s beard looked to be the reason why he ran that 4.6, lol.
40 times is more of an indication of burst and acceleration a player has. But game speed is a different matter. Seen this play out with Dri Archer…

  • twitch.tv/smokerjoesteelers

They showed Ross running side by side with a Yellow line which represented Chris Johnson and Chris Johnsons line beat him at the end by about 2 steps maybe 3. So how did Ross get clocked at 4.22?

  • twitch.tv/smokerjoesteelers

I would be interested in seeing how runningbacks bench equates to them in terms of pass blocking. My take is if you cant put up many reps then you wont excel at blocking pass rushers with legitimate size

  • Conserv_58

It was reported that Ross wasn’t injured, but rather experienced cramping. Ross said after his forty that he felt the cramping just before running his forty. That had me wondering what he would have run had he not cramped up.

  • Conserv_58

Rich Eisen said that the yellow line wasn’t a true indicator. He also said they couldn’t do the superimposed version because the camera angles location were different.

  • Conserv_58

That’s precisely what I saw and was thinking following his run.

  • Conserv_58

Then again, the bottom line is, they need Ross more than he needs them.

  • Conserv_58

I’m not the least bit concerned about him being able to run outside or not because he’ll be running behind one of the top two or three OL’s in the league.

  • Conserv_58

IMO, the bench press has nothing to do with a RB’s ability to carry the rock.

  • Conserv_58

The QB’s: I watched hours of the combine and I can say that I was not overly impressed with any of the QB’s. In fact I was rather underwhelmed. Of course some were better than others, but there was no one player that put forth an outstanding performance. There was one drill where the QB’s had to throw to the WR’s running a down and out/skinny post at three quarter speed. The vast majority of their passes sailed over the receiver’s heads. It was the same story when they were throwing to the TE’s. None of the QB’s demonstrated consistent pin-point accuracy. They were all rather pedestrian. Some will get drafted by QB needy teams earlier than they should, but from what I saw I wouldn’t draft any of them with the idea of them starting right out of the gate in 2017. The better ones need to be drafted with the idea of having them sit for a year and learn behind a good starting QB.

The WR’s: There is some good talent amongst the WR’s, but other than John Ross’ record breaking forty time I wasn’t wowed by this group. In fact there were some who’s stock dropped with each pass they bobbled and dropped.

The TE’s: The most impressive group, by far, was the TE group. After watching them go through their workouts one word came to mind, Wow! This has to be the deepest and most talented group I’ve ever seen and I’ve watched many, many combines. I’m talking, eye popping, jaw dropping, traffic stopping O.M.G. talented. My goodness, they were running forty times in the 4.5 and 4.6 range! They equaled and bettered what some of the WR’s were posting. Given the unprecedented depth and talent of this group I think the Steelers could use one of their two third round picks or wait until the forth round to get a very good TE that could start immediately.

  • Darth Blount 47

Yeah, I posted this 5 seconds after it happened, because I had this site up as I was watching the proceedings unfold. He came up limping and then when they came back from commercial, he was laying on the ground. I assumed maybe hurt.

When I heard he said on his interview that he felt the cramping start BEFORE he even ran, my mind was blown, like it was for Steve Smith and Irvin, who were there live. I thought the guy left a few hundredths out there BEFORE I heard him say all that. So you’re right in wondering… Could he go something ridiculous like 4.15 to 4.19??? I was sure he could go around 4.2 or even sub 4.2, based on how he ran and how he pulled up ever so slightly at the end. But could he actually go well into the 4.1’s?

The mythical Bo Jackson forty time of 4.13 went through my head…

  • gdeuce

I thought he doesn’t get the island because he wore nikes instead of addidas

  • twitch.tv/smokerjoesteelers

    Oh ok thanks

  • Darth Blount 47

Yeah, if you scroll on down, you’ll see I mentioned and covered that in another comment. There was fine print listed all over that little deal/offer.

  • Darth Blount 47

Great comment. I agree wholeheartedly with what you said. How did you feel about the RB’s as a group though? Or the O-Line? (Not that we need or should probably draft an O-Lineman)

  • gdeuce

that sucks, but maybe the nike shoes were just that small bit better to have him break the record

  • francesco

Like what I see in DB Fabien Moreau.
