Report: Steelers Free Agent LB Jarvis Jones To Visit With Cardinals

Jarvis Jones

With the first big wave of the 2017 free agency signing period now over, teams are starring to turn their attentions to lower-level, less expensive players. On Monday, Pittsburgh Steelers unrestricted free agent linebacker Jarvis Jones will reportedly visit with the Arizona Cardinals, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Jones, who was drafted in the first round of 2013 NFL Draft by the Steelers, failed to have his fifth-year option picked up by the team during the 2016 offseason. The Georgia product has registered all of six regular season sacks during his first four years in the league and last year lost out on considerable playing time to veteran linebacker James Harrison.

Despite visiting with the Cardinals on Monday, Jones is reportedly still in discussions with the Steelers as well as they remain interested in possibly re-signing him, according to Schefter.

One can easily speculate at this point that if Jones were to re-sign with the Steelers it would perhaps be a one-year deal for near the minimum and with no guarantees that he would make the final 53-man roster. At this point, it will be surprising if Jones doesn’t sign with another team during the coming weeks.

As of Monday morning the Steelers have had two of their unrestricted free agents sign with new teams as linebacker Lawrence Timmons came to terms with the Miami Dolphins and wide receiver Markus Wheaton inked a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears.
