Steelers OC Todd Haley Present For Penn State Pro Day

Penn State held their annual pro day on Thursday and Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley was there to observe all the action.

Haley is shown in a picture on the Penn State website talking to wide receiver Chris Godwin, who reportedly has already lined up a pre-draft visit with the Steelers as well.

Godwin, who caught 59 passes for 982 yards and 11 touchdowns last season, had a great showing at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine a few weeks ago. He measured in at 6010, 209-pounds and registered a 4.42 second 40-yard dash time in addition to a 4.00 second short-shuttle time.

Despite them signing free agent wide receiver Justin Hunter on Wednesday, the Steelers still might ultimately decide to draft another wide receiver this year.

Penn State has all of Thursday’s pro-day results posted on their site along with several pictures.

2017 NFL Draft Player Profiles: Penn State WR Chris Godwin

  • Shane Mitchell

I suspect he will be one of two offensive players drafted by the Steelers by the end of the third round.

  • Douglas Andrews

If the Steelers draft this guy Ben won’t have anything to complain about. Over half the receiving corps will be 6ft or taller.

  • Big Joe

Godwin is one WR I’ve had on my list for quite awhile as a prospect who fits what the team looks for. Just been trying to figure out If he’s a late 2nd or mid-to-late 3rd Rd pick.

  • Shane Mitchell

Also has been reported that the Steelers have setup a private workout with him later this month on campus.

  • Rene Gonzalez

If they get him that WR room gonna have some serious competition, but that’s a good thing considering the only two players without questionmarks right now are Brown and Rodgers.

Brown, Rodgers, Bryant, Coates, Heybey, Hunter, Godwin, Ayers, and Hamilton… that’s an interesting training camp for sure.

  • afrekinmazin

What I really like about his pro day was the effort he put into it, originally Gunner Kiel was supposed to throw to Godwin but those plans fell through, so a Patriots scout eventually threw to him. Godwin could of easily skipped the throwing session and blamed not having a qb to throw to him, but went with it and still had a great catching session. To me, that speaks to be willing to do whatever it takes to get noticed by scouts and trust in his training that he can still go out there and produce results.

  • Justin Warrenfeltz

I think his combine has placed him squarely as a mid-to-late 2nd rounder. I’m not convinced he’s still there for us in the 2nd.

  • ND_Steel

Hmm…you’re surely in the minority there. I think they’ll get one, a WR/RB or TE (TE only if they intend to cut Green loose), but two would be really surprising.

  • TroymanianDevil

I’ll say it’s only 1 offensive player by the 3rd round. But 2 by the end of round 4 tho so our thinking isn’t too far apart.

  • Douglas Andrews

I think with all the uncertainty at WR the Steelers will keep 6 on the 53. Hunter , Ayers, and Hamilton won’t make the cut if the Steelers draft a WR(Godwin). Nothing like adding more competition into the WR group. Maybe that will send Coates a message and he steps his game up like he did the first 4 games last season. I have no doubt MB will be back in a big way this season. His interviews sound genuine and he’s putting in work….bulked up to 225 already.

  • Steeler83

I think it would be a bad decision to not keep Ayers on the 53. He’ll be our returner for the next year. I agree the 6 WRs in the 53. Brown, Bryant/DHB, Godwin, Ayers, Coates, Rogers.

  • Conserv_58

Based on my observations of the videos I’m not overly impressed with his performance. Maybe it’s a case of my comparing his movements to AB’s, but he doesn’t have the quick-twitch explosiveness I expect from a young WR trying to impress NFL coaches and scouts. He seems a big sluggish coming off the line and there is no suddenness or snap to his change of direction. He rounded out his route in the first video. I didn’t see any excitement or enthusiasm in his body language either. If I’m coach Haley, this guy is a third round pick, at best.

  • Conserv_58

If they keep six then who gets cut?

  • Conserv_58

IMO, WR/RB and TE will be selected out of their eight picks.

  • Conserv_58

TE is one of the deepest and most talented groups of any of the offensive positions in this draft. I have no doubt that the Steelers will select one because Green’s future is precarious at best.

Of the Steelers eight picks I expect five to go toward improving the defense and three on offense, TE/WR/RB. Of course this prediction will be moot if Colbert decides to trade.

  • Steeler83

I wrote above the 6 WR that I think will be a part of the 53. Brown, Godwin, Coates, Rogers, Ayers, Bryant/DHB. I think Bryant will be the guy if he is reinstated but if not I bet DHB will be. I know I shouldn’t overlooked DHB’s job on ST but keeping just a “ST guy” ? I believe Ayers make more sense than DHB because he is younger and brings a value as a returner. And I think with Coates, Bryant and Godwin we should have enough deep threat and there is no slot option outside of Rogers.

I got paid $104000 previous year by doing an online job and I manage to accomplish that by working part-time for few hrs /daily. I followed work opportunity I stumbled upon online and I am excited that i earned so much extra income. It’s so beginner-friendly and I am just so happy that i discovered it. • Doug

They can keep Ayers on the practice squad for 1 more season.

  • Steeler83

I really doubt he will pass through the waivers. He shows promises in his first year.

  • Shane Mitchell

Going by the prospects they are showing interest in and the current holes on the roster, I dont think they can fill those positions waiting past the top 4 picks if they are planning to use the draft to fill them. A quality starter capable RB and a receiver that can play immediately as a 2/3. Waiting past the top 4 picks for either would become a risky proposition. These are players that we can expect to get a lot of playing time and play key roles during the upcoming season. Top 4 picks I can see in no specific order OLB, WR/TE, RB, CB. Ideally it would make sense to fill one of these positions before the draft and looking at the FA market and value, to me signing a backup RB instead of spending a 3rd round pick on one makes sense. The market is flooded with quality RBs, and it would be the cheapest of the 4 positions to fill with a free agent at the moment. Then they could get a ILB/hybrid player among the top 4 picks.

  • Donte Williams

his stock is rising he may not make it to the first of 2 3rd round picks if he does I wont be mad at all

  • Donte Williams

nah i can see them taken two offensive players a RB and WR or TE or hell maybe all 3

  • Conserv_58

I couldn’t disagree more about them going to DHB if Bryant isn’t reinstated. There is a very good reason why DHB is not a starting WR. He’s got inconsistent hands and that’s being kind.
