Steelers 2017 Draft: Major Media Mock Draft Roundup

The 2017 NFL Draft will be getting underway in Philadelphia in less than 24 hours from now and it looks like most of the major media analysts have their final mocks out.

Below, I have compiled who mocked who to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first-round at 30th overall and each name is linked to that person’s full mock draft in case you would like to read them.

Of the 22 listed major media draft analysts that I compiled, five of them have the Steelers selecting Michigan safety Jabrill Peppers in the first-round and he was the most-popular choice.

Western Michigan wide receiver Corey Davis was the second-most popular choice as three major media members have the Steelers picking him in the first round.

Even though an edge-rusher figures to be high on the Steelers list this year, only three major media members have them selecting one in the first-round if you classify Temple’s Haason Reddick as one.

I think the guy that picked Jones is closest unless the testing result does not impact Peppers. I am surprised no one mocks other corners or Bowser. The Zay Jones pick from Kiper is bizarre. He does well with his big boards usually though. He had Arte Burns at about six spots away from where we picked him last year. He and Casserly were the only ones close.

  • jconeoone C

I dont think we go WR in the 1st round. Also Kizer in the 1st? For us?…I don’t think so.

  • Steel City Slim

Looks like an excellent opportunity to try to trade back. With all of those options a few of them should still be available in the early 2nd round.

  • JT

Not a look of folks had Artie pegged last year, but CB was certainly a consensus. This year we have:
    S – 7
    WR – 4
    TE – 4
    Edge – 3
    CB – 3
    QB – 1

  • Keith Pryor

I don’t understand those mocking a TE in the first. Of course we don’t know the status of Ladarius Green but I would think Jesse James and Grimble is enough to allow us to go with a TE later in the draft. I don’t see a WR being picked in the first either. Reddick, Peppers, and Melifonwu are more along the lines I think they will go.

  • Jason Vancil

I generally agree, although there are those that think Njoku has Top 10 type, All-Pro upside. With (hold our breaths) Martavis coming back, I think it makes it less urgent to find a pass catching TE. And of course the possibility exist that Ledarius gets healthy and can contribute.

  • Rocksolid20

You have to have a trade partner and it seems all teams know
    its a deep draft .

  • Visa

You forgot to add the most important media outlet: Steelers Depot!

  • SteelersDepot

    no, blahgers are not important.

  • Jim Foles

a lot of smoke. ILB first

  • JT

James and Grimble aren’t anywhere near Njoku or Engram in terms of talent, is the point. If they were, Green never would have been signed. They could be the truly BPA.

  • AndyR34

I hate to break it to you, Dave, but…a lot of folks around here would disagree!

  • Ryan Alderman

I’m starting to think you’re exactly right.

  • James Miles

Mike Mayock has the Steelers picking Jordan Willis at 30. First I have seen his name to the Steelers in a mock draft. Anyone like this pick? His bio reads well.

  • Jeff Peterson

Njoku is the only blue chip player steelers have a chance at so I can see them picking him if he falls. It’s one of those things where I hope he, kizer, Mahomes, McKinley, and Harris are off the board by our pick so they aren’t possible to pick. I personally want Watt – he’s the type of guy who will train every day in the off season to either beat or match his brother’s title. That’s the only way he gets out of the shadow. You can’t buy that motivation.

  • Jeff Papiernik

I still think he’s more of a 2nd round guy, but we’re so close to the 2nd round I guess it’s not surprising. If we are set on edge rusher, he’s probably the best one remaining as Charles Harris, Takk Mckinley, and TJ Watt had already been selected in his mock. I think we should go BPA though and I don’t think Willis would the pick in that case.

  • Jeff Papiernik

Mayock did not have Jarrad Davis being picked in the first round. If he’s there at 30, I think we have to pull the trigger. I’d rather have him over Jordan Willis who was mocked to us.

  • Jeff Papiernik

Njoku didn’t even go in the first round in Mayock’s mock who is by far and away the most well regarded as far as mock drafts go.

  • Jeff Papiernik

If Watt isn’t there, trade down to early 2nd and pick up an extra 4th round pick at the top of the round. Then take Obi and Derek Rivers in round 2.

  • Steel City Slim

I know they need a trade partner, that’s why I said “try”.

  • Shane Mitchell

Thats my boy, ever hear of Charles Haley? reminds me a lot of him.

  • Shane Mitchell

Evan Engram is my darkhorse BPA pick especially if we end up trading down 5 or 6 spots.

  • H.K. northern cali

I say trade out of the first rd. Get a 3rd and another 5th. Add some good depth to this team.

  • Shane Mitchell

    Hopefully he is long gone.

  • pcantidote

I don’t get the WR talk. IMO we are stacked and don’t need to draft one at all.

  • James Miles

That’s what I want to hear;)

  • James Miles

Mayock doesn’t have David Njuko going in the first round. If he is there, I think that would be hard to pass up. Anyone else agree? Take him at 30 and OLB in round 2??

  • Shane Mitchell

I need to prepare you all for the possibility that we wait till round 4 to draft an OLB and his name is Samson Ebukam.

  • Marcel Chris Chauvet

Jabrill Peppers will be the pick. Colbert made up his mind about him already. The diluted sample won’t matter. They’ve already done immense background work on him and they’ll tell you that same thing at his Friday press conference. I don’t love the pick, but I’ve resigned myself to the reality that it will happen. I don’t hate the idea of Peppers. I do wonder whether it’s the best use of a first round pick.

  • Jeff Anoble

Pittsburgh Post Gazette writers Ed Bouchet predicts Takk McKinley, OLB, UCLA and Ray Fittipaldo picks Tre’Davious White LSU CB to the Steelers as well. I kind of lean toward Dave Bryan’s point of view of Jarrad Davis. Offering close to 9 mil a year to Donte Hightower certainly demonstrates a need. Is Davis the next Ray Lewis as one of the Youtube highlights claim?

  • Xclewsive

I love Jabrill Peppers but I’m in the minority for sure.

  • Matt Manzo

Good bold statement on Draft Eve! I like it! I really like how maneuverable he is!
Would you have him add weight or shed weight?

  • Matt Manzo

He’d be hard to pass up. Really depends on who else is there.

  • Matt Manzo

I have no idea who we’re going to pick!

  • Shane Mitchell

I think he is good at his current size, he can bend the edge like an OLB and rush inside like a DE at his current size, bulk him up he might lose some bend.

  • Matt Manzo

He’d be perfect for that elephant role!

  • Shane Mitchell

I think he would make a lot of sense if we are trying to fix our pass rush right away, dont have to teach him how to drop and all that just bring him in and let him rush the passer from different positions.

  • John

Interesting comment. He is a DL though and not sure we need one. I think they liked Peppers because he can rush the passer.

  • John

  • Shane Mitchell

Thats exactly what we would use this kid to do, he is a unique pass rushing prospect that we could line up anywhere and get after the QB.

  • Michael James

I would actually be thrilled with Ebukam in the fourth, if they adress the secondary in the first few rounds (+ a new dominant target for Ben). I think I’m higher than most on him.

  • Conserv_58

IMO, the diluted sample plus the fact that he skipped Michigan’s bowl game and he doesn’t specialize at any one position raise enough red flags for a lot of GM’s that he is no longer regarded as a first round pick. He’ll be lucky to go in the late second or third round.

  • Conserv_58

There is some truth to that statement. As far as the media moguls are concerned bloggers are the red headed step children of the internet.

  • Nolrog

This suggests that a) the choices are pretty wide open, and b) half the professionals have no idea what they are talking about.

  • Terrible Towlie

Harris. Watt. Willis any would make me happy

  • Paddy

No he’s not that good at one position now the drugs no way

  • Brendan

I’m with you. People need to go back and actually watch Michigan games. He was must watch every week.

  • Nolrog

I think someone will jump at him because of the name. I think high-teens, low 20s.

  • Rocksolid20

I’m all for it , no faith in Green playing a full season if at all .we
need a guy like that come playoff time .

  • Rocksolid20

Prepair for a disappointment , those are good chooses
but Watt and maybe Harris will be gone and Willis as good as he
    is , is a reach at #30 .

  • Shannon Stephenson

    All hacks I tell ya!!!

  • Terrible Towlie

he’s not a reach if thats what you need

  • Rick Tilves

You do not Waste a 1st Rounder on a Safety ( I don’t see any Troys here) when you Need an Edge & CB.
