The Terrible Podcast – Talking Steelers Draft Prospects, Harrison In Vegas, Roethlisberger Decision & More

Season 7, Episode 99 of The Terrible Podcast is now up and in this Monday show, David Todd is back in the main chair again and we get things started by talking about Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison and several other players being in Las Vegas this past weekend for an arm wrestling event that might ultimately get them in trouble with the NFL due to them all possibly violating the league’s gambling policy.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger announced on Friday that he will indeed be back for 2017 season and while we aren’t surprised with his decision, we dedicate a few minutes to discussing it nonetheless.

The Washington redskins signed linebacker Zach Brown to a one-year contract recently so David and I discuss if the Steelers missed out on him.

Will former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo do well as an NFL game analysts for CBS Sports? David and I discuss that topic for a little bit along with a few other minor NFL nuggets.

We use the second half of this show to discuss several players in this year’s draft class by position and where they might ultimately wind up being selection. Several appear to have the Steelers interested in them.

As always, several other smaller talking points are mixed in throughout the show that are not highlighted here in this post.

You can be sure Goodell will not look the other way on James Harrison’s indiscretion.

I don’t know if this is helpful or not but Dave te has been on a couple “locked on” jets podcasts earlier this yr so he seemed to still b doin his thing this time of year. He actually brought up the steelers a few times talking abt the mich. Pro day, he seemed convinced they r guna take peppers.

Hey guys, good show. But I wanted to bring up someone you sort of mentioned and yet overlooked, all within the same breath. And that is Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama. If David Todd has Lattimore, Conley, and Q. Wilson, being the 3 CB’s gone before the Steeler selection at 30… wouldn’t Marlon Humphrey IMMEDIATELY have to enter the conversation as a likely choice? I mean, he has his flaws, but most pundits/analysts believe that he is definitely a 1st round talent. And most have him being gone way before the Steelers pick at 30.

If he were to be that surprise CB who fell further down than expected, he’d have to be in play for Pittsburgh at 30, right? I think Humphrey is a guy that doesn’t get talked about enough. And you guys haven’t touched on him in the podcasts, I think because you and most others, expect him to already be gone. But Todd isn’t the first guy that I have seen/heard have him possibly dropping though, either. And I believe that his physical nature, aggressiveness, great run support, and good speed/3-cone/Broad… all add up to a pretty good player, and whose scheme fit in zone, makes him a Steeler fit as well.

One thing to consider with Zach Brown is that maybe if/when the Steelers did call they told him Williams was the guy and he would most likely be coming in for depth and he didn’t want to accept that role. So it may not have been a lack of interest from the Steelers, but moreso from Brown.

And to your point about Romo DT…..Phil Simms was awful so even if Romo isn’t great he will still be an upgrade. Phil Simms being gone is the best move/news of the entire offseason.

  • Ace

Yeah I think it was a product of DT not putting a ton of thought into that one. Not selling him short, but him thinking on his feet in regards to the best CB’s, I think his omission of Humphrey was just an oversight.

  • Shannon Stephenson

    hope not

  • MC

Do you happen to know who he thought we would take last year?

  • MC

Really don’t understand how they don’t even have Brown in for a visit when he wasn’t asking for that much, complete head scratcher that. Would muuuuuch rather have Brown for that price than Hightower for the money he wanted.

Tells me they’re most likely going to target an ILB high or semi high (Reddick if he falls to 30? Zach Cunningham?). Just can’t see them rolling with Williams and his coverage flaws and Shazier with his durability without another quality guy in the fold. Brown could of eliminated the need to draft said guy.

  • mezzetin1

Boy, you hit the nail on the head there. Simms was insufferable.

  • Shane Mitchell

Apparently one Dave has never even heard of Jordan Willis and the other one keeps forgetting about him, Well he is going to go ahead of Carl let me take my shirt off Lawson, and Derek Rivers, and he is a better prospect than both.

  • mike

If I remember correctly he was high on eli apple, and hoped we were guna look @ him but obviously he didn’t come close to making it that far

  • MC

Thanks for the info. I really like Dave Te’s take on prospects but I missed everything around this time of year last year.
