Not much luck with late rounders for Steelers
I mentioned earlier in the week how the Steelers have not been very successful in the later rounds of the draft as of the past few years. This morning Scott Brown touched on this as well in the Trib.
Its time we start getting some depth and special teamers in this age of free agency.
Balmer’s draft prospects soaring
As many know by now, I am very high on defensive tackle Kentwan Balmer. I think he would fit great into the Steelers defensive scheme and can function in the 3-4 or the 4-3. Here is a great article from the Charlotte Observer on him. With his stock soaring as of late, it is looking less and less he will fall to the Steelers in round one.

Steelers Draft Day Sweepstakes
Steelers official website is having a draft contest. All you need to do is submit who you think the Steelers will draft first. Not sure how they break ties and it looks like they threw this together real quick. regardless a contest is a contest.
Beat writer mock draft…Steelers take Stewart?
Came across the NFL team beat writer mock draft that will be posted on SI.com as soon as Thursday.
Bouchette seems to think the Steelers will go after RB Jonathan Stewart. Sorry, but I am not buying it.
23. Pittsburgh Steelers (Ed Bouchette): Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon.

A look at some defensive tackles in the draft
Another day, another day closer to draft day. I came across a link with some youtube videos of the top DTs in the draft. The more I see of Balmer, the more I really like this kid.

Steelers could trade out of first round
Colbert said today that the Steelers could indeed trade out of the first round on Saturday if the right deal was presented. Also, as usually, it is highly unlikely that the Steelers trade up further into round 1. I highly suspect the Steelers will stay right where they are unless one of the 3 or 4 players they are targeting are off the board. Colbert could be just getting the word out that all deals will be looked at.
