The Steelers are currently negotiating a salary raise and contract extension for linebacker James Harrison, according to Harrison's agent, Bill Parise, with both sides having discussions as often as twice a day. The NFL Players Association has released the 2009 NFL Franchise/Transition tender amounts. NFL teams have from February 5th - 19th, 2009 to designate a player who would otherwise be an Unrestricted Free Agent on February 27 as a Franchise or Transition Player. Early 2009 Steelers Salary Cap Numbers

Here is an early look at the Steelers 2009 salary cap situation. These numbers are not exact, but to the best of my research are close. Listed is the 2009 base salary of players under contract and the estimated 2009 cap charge. The 2009 NFL salary cap is set to be 127 million dollars per team and my best estimation, the Steelers are right at about 100 million. This means they are roughly 27 million under the cap at this time.
