2010 Draft Archives

Former Steelers cornerback Crezdon Butler suffered a dislocated ankle in practice on Thursday according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic and he could miss a significant amount of time with the injury. There are some rumblings that he could miss the rest of the 2011 season. The Cardinals aren't commenting on the severity of the injury right now according to Somers. Butler was drafted in the fifth-round of the 2010 draft by the Steelers, but was waived during the final cut-downs earlier this month. Butler was claimed off of waivers immediately by the Cardinals and he was reunited with former Read more [...]

Chris Scott – The Forgotten 2010 Draft Pick

A little over a year ago the Steelers drafted Tennessee tackle Chris Scott in the 5th round of the 2010 NFL Draft with hopes he could provide some depth at both the tackle and the guard position. Offensive line coach Sean Kugler said immediately after the selection that Scott is a physical player that has some position flexibility at both the tackle and guard position. Kugler noted that Scott, who was primarily a left tackle at Tennessee, could also play on the right side as well. The position flexibility that Kugler mentions stems from the fact that Scott broke into the Volunteers lineup at the Read more [...]
The Steelers have officially landed in Texas and we have pictures below of several players leaving the plane below. Pittsburgh's team plane arrived at the Dallas/Fort Worth airport at approximately 12:30 p.m. ET Monday. The Steelers then loaded several buses and were off the the team hotel, the Omni Fort Worth, escorted by a police motorcade. All of the Steelers offensive linemen were wearing the #76 Michigan State college jersey of right tackle Flozell Adams. Also rookie center Maurkice Pouncey needed crutches still as he came down the stairs leaving the plane. Head coach Mike Tomlin and several Read more [...]
The first preseason game against Detroit is rapidly approaching and training camp is already in its 12th day. One of the biggest disappointments thus far in training camp has been the news on second round pick Jason Worilds. Worilds has missed valuable time trying to shake a hamstring injury and is having to learn the complex Dick LeBeau defense by merely taking mostly mental reps. Worilds is already getting knocks in the local papers and is probably pushing himself way too hard to overcome both the injury and the early naysayers. Before I go any further, let me state I was not a fan of the Read more [...]
The Steelers will announce on Thursday that they have reached an agreement with 2010 2nd round draft pick Jason Worilds on a 4 year, 3.7 million dollar contract believed to include 1.9 million in guaranteed monies. Per club policy, the official numbers will not be available until filed with the NFLPA, but the Virginia Tech product will be signed on time and ready to report to Latrobe on Friday for the start of training camp. The Steelers will need to release a player from the roster to make room for Worilds and speculation is that either linebackers Johnny Williams or Renauld Williams will be released. Read more [...]

Several people have emailed me asking about the contracts signed by rookie draft picks Thaddeus Gibson & Doug Worthington. Both signed 3 year contracts and are identical in base salaries. Gibson had the much higher signing bonus of the two as expected as he was drafted in the 4th round versus Worthington who was a 7th round pick. Of course there is no salary cap in 2010, but I have broken down the players contracts by year and salary cap charge for future reference. Steelers Rookies Get Jersey Numbers

Well the release has come out of the new jersey uniform numbers for the Steelers latest 2010 class of rookies to join the team. Some interesting notes: If I am Antonio Brown, I take that #14 to a priest and let him exorcise the demons from it. Not many choices left for #1 draft pick, Maurkice Pouncey. #52 is surely off limits although not retired. Doug Worthington running around in Greg Lloyd's #95 will look weird. Looks like Virginia Tech DT Demetrius Taylor is indeed a fullback now with #38. That should be fun to watch. While it needs to be updated, here is the Steelers All-Time Read more [...]

Steelers Draft Recap – Class Of 2010

The Steelers 2010 draft is now in the books. The 3 day event started slow paced on day 1 and 2, but day 3 was a whirlwind. I am still trying to catch up and will likely work through the mid morning. It was an old school draft so to speak. "In Colbert We Trust", I need to always remind myself this. I started to lose the faith after Friday night, but after the 4 rounds on Saturday, everything makes much more sense. Here is a quick recap. Round 1 was as good as pick as any, especially if you like versatile offensive linemen. Florida center Maurkice Pouncey should be with Steelers for a long time. Read more [...]
