Injury Report Archives

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Heath Miller talked on Wednesday about how his knee rehab is coming along, but he refused to speculate whether or not he would be ready to play in the season opener game of the 2013 season against the Tennessee Titans. While Miller might have refused to circle a date on the calendar, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger basically did it for him during his Thursday morning interview on DVE Radio. "I don't want to speak out of line, but I think it's a non-issue, truthfully," said Roethlisberger, when asked about Miller's rehab. "I know that it's an issue to fans Read more [...]
Season 3, Episode 105 of The Terrible Podcast is up and co-host David Todd and I have quite a bit to talk about with the Pittsburgh Steelers first OTA practices of the 2013 season now completed. We open the show by talking about tackle Max Starks signing this week with the San Diego Chargers and move on from there to discuss who is playing where on the Steelers offensive line this past week in practice. After passing on all of the latest injury news on linebacker Jarvis Jones and cornerback Terry Hawthorne, David and I talk about what tight end Heath Miller had to say about his knee injury Read more [...]
Updating a report from earlier in the day, David Todd of ESPN 970 Radio has learned that Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Terry Hawthorne needed a procedure done on his injured knee to remove bone chips and that he could be sidelined until training camp as a result. It was reported earlier on Wednesday by Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that Hawthorne was sidelined for the Steelers second OTA practice of the 2013 season with a wrap on his knee and that he was using crutches to get around on. Now we know why. Hawthorne, who was drafted by the Steelers in the fifth-round of the 2013 Read more [...]
As of Wednesday, Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Heath Miller is almost five months removed from his surgery to repair the serious right knee injury that he suffered late last season against the Cincinnati Bengals and he talked about his current status with the media following the second OTA practice of the 2013 season. "I'm feeling good," said the 30-year-old Miller. "It's good to get out here and watch the guys working, good turnout for the team and doing good." Miller, who reportedly tore the ACL, MCL and PCL in his right knee, was asked where he currently is at in his rehab. "I'm running Read more [...]
Unfortunately we have more injury news to pass along to you following the conclusion of the Pittsburgh Steelers second OTA practice of the 2013 season that took place on Wednesday. Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is now reporting via Twitter that rookie cornerback Terry Hawthorne is on crutches with apparent right knee discomfort. Hawthorne, who was drafted by the Steelers in the fifth-round of the 2013 NFL Draft last month out of Illinois, had problems staying healthy while in college and as a result he missed six games over the course of four seasons. Hopefully the knee injury Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers second practice of the first OTA session of the 2013 season has ended and rookie linebacker Jarvis Jones apparently was limited once again with hamstring injury, according to Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Twitter. Kaboly reports that Jones didn't fully participate in the Wednesday session and that the Georgia product said following practice that he originally tweaked his hamstring during his Pro Day workout back in March while running his forty-yard dash and that he aggravated it again at rookie camp a few weeks ago. At least we know for sure that Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers first OTA session of the 2013 season got underway on Tuesday, and it appears that first-round draft pick, linebacker Jarvis Jones, might have aggravated a hamstring injury that suffered during his March Pro Day, according to a Tuesday evening report by Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked about Jones following Tuesday's practice and of course he really didn't elaborate any in his response. "He's capable of practicing, which he did," said Tomlin. "Had a good day." David Todd of ESPN 970 Radio was at the Steelers practice on Tuesday Read more [...]
While he might not have shown up in the same shape that he was when he came out of USC many moons ago, Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu still looked to be in pretty good shape for the first OTA session of the 2013 season that got underway on Tuesday. However, during his talk with the media following practice, Polamalu revealed that the calf injury that forced him to miss nine games last season has bothered him for the last four years. Polamalu was first asked by the Pittsburgh media if there is anything that he can do to ward off the calf injury moving forward. "Yeah, I've done quite Read more [...]
A week ago we reported that former Michigan State nose tackle Anthony Rashad White reverted back to the Pittsburgh Steelers injured reserve list following him clearing waivers after being waived injured on May 6. On Tuesday, White was waived from the injured reserve list which means that he is fully recovered from whatever injury he may have had. White was signed as an undrafted free agent immediately following the 2013 NFL draft, but according to Bob Labriola of steelers.com, the 335 pound nose tackle showed up to the Steelers rookie camp extremely out of shape. We have yet to find out exactly Read more [...]
During his Tuesday conference call with season ticket holders, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert was asked about the health status of inside linebacker Sean Spence, who is still recovering from tearing up his left knee last preseason in the game against the Carolina Panthers. “Sean is progressing," said Colbert. "When you have as serious a knee injury as he unfortunately had, it sometimes is a very long process. Sometimes it takes over a year to fully rehabilitate. But the good thing is we are seeing signs of progress, albeit small steps. But it is progress. Sean’s attitude Read more [...]
On Monday, we passed along word to you that the Pittsburgh Steelers had waived undrafted free agent nose tackle Anthony Rashad White, but according to the official league transaction sheet put out daily by the league, the 6-1, 335-pound, White was waived injured. White has since cleared waivers and has now reverted to the Steelers injured reserve list as a result. He does not count against the 90 man roster. We don't know the exact nature of the injury suffered by White and his stay on the Steelers injured reserve list will likely depend on the seriousness of his injury. The Steelers might Read more [...]
On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed free agent tackle Guy Whimper to help bolster their depth on the offensive line and I speculated that tackle Marcus Gilbert might not be ready for the first OTA session that takes place in a few more weeks due to him coming off ankle surgery in December. Gilbert, however, told me tonight that the ankle is indeed fine and that he plans on working during the OTA session. Gilbert injured the tendon in his right ankle in the Week 6 loss last season to the Tennessee Titans and flew to North Carolina shortly thereafter to see specialist, who deemed at that Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up day two day of their 2013 rookie camp on Saturday and following the practice head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media on the field. With the OTA sessions now on the horizon, Tomlin was asked if tight end Heath Miller (knee), linebacker Sean Spence (knee) and tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle) would be able to participate in them. "All of the rehab is going according to plan and really no new news there," said Tomlin. "I did hear the opinion regarding Spence, my opinion differs. I think he's going to have a full recovery, but now you have two opinions, neither Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected nine players in the 2013 NFL draft and signed 15 more as undrafted free agents immediately after it concluded, and of those 24 total players, not a one of them plays tight end. Judging by the Steelers decision to not add to the position group over the course of the weekend, one can easily speculate that this bodes well for veteran tight end Heath Miller, who pulled off the torn ligament trifecta late last season in the game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Many had speculated that the Steelers would add a tight end at some point during the draft and some of Read more [...]

Steelers LB Sean Spence Unlikely To Ever Play Again

Pittsburgh Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler delivered some real bad news on Saturday about linebacker Sean Spence, the teams third round draft pick from last year, when asked if he would be back this year. "I don’t think he is going to be. It will be miraculous if he does come back. It will be miraculous if he comes back next year. We are going to take a chance on him and see if he can come back. To me, he is worth every bit of that." Butler was asked if it would be gravy if Spence every does return and his response was not surprising. "I hope he’s gravy, said Butler. "I really Read more [...]
On Thursday, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert updated the status of linebacker Sean Spence, the teams third-round draft pick from last April, who suffered a serious knee injury last preseason. During his update Colbert said Spence is doing everything that the doctors and trainers are telling him to do but that there is still no timetable for his return. Colbert said that fingers are crossed that he can return, but added that an injury of that significance heals at a different pace for different people. Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on Saturday that Spence Read more [...]
Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert is of course in Indianapolis this week at the NFL combine and on Thursday he gave an update on the condition of linebacker Sean Spence, who suffered a serious knee injury last preseason that forced him to sit out his rookie year. Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is in Indianapolis this week and reports via Twitter that Colbert said that there is no timetable still for a return of the Steelers third-round draft pick from last April. Dulac quoted Colbert as saying, "We have to keep our fingers crossed." “When you have an injury of Read more [...]
I recently wrote about how the health of Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Sean Spence holds the key to what might happen this offseason at the inside linebacker position. After tearing up his knee last preseason there really hasn't been anything concrete from the Steelers organization as to how his rehab is going and whether or not he will be ready for action by the time training camp rolls around. Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has made more than one reference over the last few months to Spence possibly not being counted on by the team for the 2013 season and he made yet another Read more [...]
Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor said Tuesday on Trib Live Radio that he is back on the field training down at the Wide World of Sports complex with renowned trainer Tom Shaw. Taylor, who fractured his right ankle early in Week 11 game against the Baltimore Ravens this past season, said that he is a full go now as of Monday and that he is running up and down the hill, doing field work, and running in the sand pit. "It's hard for me just to sit down," said Taylor. "I understand this game. You can only play for so long, so they might ask you to take a rest, or take weeks off, or you Read more [...]
Some new quotes have emerged from the year-end talk that Pittsburgh Steelers team president Art Rooney II had with members of the Pittsburgh media last week concerning injuries suffered this past season and training. “I do think it’s something that comes in cycles,” said Rooney about injuries, per the Steelers official website. “I remember sitting there a few years ago and looking at the Colts, who had like 15 guys on injured reserve, and I was thinking, ‘I’m glad that’s not us.’ “It does happen sort of in cycles, and hopefully we’re getting through this cycle. But having Read more [...]
