The Steelers practiced on Thursday in preparation for their Monday night game versus the Broncos in Denver. Defensive end Travis Kirschke (calf) and linebacker Lawrence Timmons (ankle) did not practice on Thursday and were the only two players listed on the injury report for Pittsburgh. In all likelihood, Kirschke will not practice all week and will not play Monday night as he revealed he suffered a torn calf against Minnesota. Kirschke Has Calf Tear

Scott Brown is reporting that veteran defensive end Travis Kirschke has a tear in his calf and it could sideline for the Denver game, if not longer. Kirschke reportedly still has swelling in the lower leg that he hurt against the Vikings in week 7. If Kirschke can not go on Monday night, Nick Eason will get the start at left defensive end and rookie Ziggy Hood would back him up. Ra'Shon Harris would also likely be active for the game as well for depth.

On Friday, the Steelers got great news as far as the practice and injury report went. Linebacker Andre Frazier (thigh), running back Rashard Mendenhall (knee) and safety Troy Polamalu (knee) all practiced fully on Friday. Frazier is officially listed as questionable while both Mendenhall and Polamalu are listed as probable. Baring any unforeseen setbacks, Polamalu should make his second consecutive start since being injured in week one versus the Titans. DE Aaron Smith To Have Rotator Cuff Surgery

Jim Wexell is reporting that Steelers defensive end Aaron Smith will undergo surgery on his right rotator cuff on Friday. Smith will reportedly be lost for an estimated 3 months of time as he recuperates. It is not yet known if Smith will be placed on injured reserve yet or be shelved on the roster until around playoff time. Head coach Mike Tomlin said in his Tuesday press conference that a committee of Ziggy Hood, Travis Kirschke and Nick Eason will be used to replace Smith during his absence.
