Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall strained his Achilles Thursday night in the loss to the Tennessee Titans, but he said Monday after practice that he plans on being ready Sunday night when the team faces the Cincinnati Bengals.
“I’m planning on being able to play,” Mendenhall said. “It’s a little tight. We’re just kind of working through it this week. I’m just taking it day-by-day. It’s not something I’m worried about too much."
Mendenhall has 74 yards rushing on 19 carries since returning from a torn ACL suffered in the regular season finale last year, but

Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey is highly unlikely to play next Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Pouncey injured his MCL on the first offensive play in the loss to the Tennessee Titans, and despite reports suggesting that he might be ready for the Sunday night game, it appears that Doug Legursky will make the start at center.
The Steelers also will be without starting right tackle Marcus Gilbert in addition as rookie Mike Adams told the media on Monday that he is slated to start at right tackle against the

It was reported earlier in the day that starter Marcus Gilbert was spotted with his right foot in a boot after injuring it Thursday night in the loss to the Tennessee Titans. Gilbert posted Monday afternoon on Twitter that he was on a plane heading somewhere, so we can only speculate that he might be headed to see a specialist for his injury.

Tuesday will mark the start of week 7 of the 2012 season and it also marks the open of the first window that allows Pittsburgh Steelers rookie right guard David DeCastro to begin practicing again whenever the team doctors clear him to do so.
DeCastro was placed on the injured reserve list with the new designated to return tag prior to the start of the season after he tore up his right knee in the Steelers third preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.
The new rule states that a player can begin practicing with the team 6 weeks from the date that he was placed on injured reserve, but it also

Injuries to key players really took their toll on the AFC North in week 6 and the Baltimore Ravens may have very well took the brunt of it.
In their 31-29 win Sunday over the Dallas Cowboys it is believed that the Ravens have lost starting cornerback Lardarius Webb for the season to torn ACL and veteran linebacker Ray Lewis could be done for an extended amount of time, and maybe even the season, after suffering a triceps injury.
The injuries did not end there for the Ravens defense as defensive tackle Haloti Ngata sprained his right knee and aggravated a minor right shoulder injury on Sunday

On Friday we passed along the word that the MCL injury that Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey suffered on the first offensive play in the Thursday night loss to the Tennessee Titans was not believed to serious.
On Saturday Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that per a league source, Pouncey is not expected to miss much time, if any. That certainly is encouraging news.
Pouncey never returned to the game after his right leg was trapped underneath a pile on the opening pass play and he was replaced at center by Doug Legursky.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said during his

The Achilles injury suffered by Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall Thursday night against the Tennessee Titans is reportedly a minor one.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports Friday that Mendenhall had the Achilles tighten up on him in the loss to the Titans and that his status for the Sunday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals will be determined by how it responds over the weekend.
In just his second game back since tearing his right ACL at the end of the 2011 regular season, Mendenhall had 6 carries for 6 yards against the Titans with a long run of 5 yards.

So you want some more bad news on the morning after the Pittsburgh Steelers 26-23 loss Thursday night to the Tennessee Titans?
I forgot to pass along the comments made by Mike Prisuta of DVE Radio during the pregame radio show last night in which he said that the word he is hearing is that safety Troy Polamalu is pregame radio show expected to miss four weeks of action after re-injuring his right calf last Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Although Prisuta did not elaborate on those comments, or cite his source, the time frame is certainly fathomable, especially when you remember back

Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey played all of one snap in the 26-23 loss Thursday night to the Tennessee Titans and the early word is that the MCL injury that he suffered to the right knee will not be a season ender.
Alan Robinson of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that several Steelers players said that they don't believe the injury is serious. "I've been through games like that," left guard Willie Colon told the paper. "Thank God there's no season-ending things.
