QUOTES FROM PITTSBURGH STEELERS MEDIA DAY
DEFENSIVE END BRETT KEISEL
(on how to stop Aaron Rodgers) “Aaron is playing phenomenal right now. I don’t see anyone in the NFL throw the ball like he does or make plays like he does aside from our guy. The best thing we can do is try and get at him and get him on the ground. Trying to get pressure on him, is going to be a big factor in the game.”
(on if he thought his beard would have gotten this much attention) “I have to blame my teammates really. When I started this thing, I said that as long as we are winning games I will Read more [...]

C MAURKICE POUNCEY
(on the markers for getting to play Sunday) “As long as I feel good, I’ll make the call. It’s on me, and if I don’t feel the right, necessary things I feel, if I don’t feel the right way going out there, I’m not gonna play. And if I do, I’m gonna go out there and do what I always do.”
(on the toughest thing about playing with the ankle injury) “I can get around pretty good. But you got to get used to pushing around 350 pounders. When I’m walking around and it’s just my weight, it’s Read more [...]

WR ANTWAAN RANDLE EL
(on if he thinks Hines Ward will retire after this season) “If we win this, it’s hard to say that he will, but to win this and have three (Super Bowl wins). He’s been to the Pro Bowl. I mean, what else? The only thing I can think of is maybe he’ll want to try to come back and try to repeat, because that hasn’t been done. He’ll have won three, but he hasn’t repeated.”
(on coming back to a family-based organization like Pittsburgh after four years in Washington) “It puts in perspective in terms Read more [...]

DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR DICK LeBEAU
(on if it says anything that his defensive philosophy has held in the NFL) “Well I don’t think that there is any one way to do it, but it does say that in the hands of the right players, that it’ll work. It definitely validates that the system will work. The players are what make it work.”
(on the genesis of the zone blitz) “Necessity is the mother of invention. The run and shoot was very much invoked. Houston had Warren Moon, who was practically unstoppable with the people that he had, throwing the ball Read more [...]
QUOTES FROM PITTSBURGH STEELERS HEAD COACH MIKE TOMLIN ON MEDIA DAY
(on the composition of the Steelers’ roster) “We believe in building through the draft. I don’t think that’s a big secret. Equally as important as that is we believe in paying our own players — those who are deserving — and simply adding to and supplementing that. That’s our business model. It’s worked for a long time prior to me getting here. I think it creates an atmosphere where guys care about one another. They care about the organization. They understand that it is bigger than them.”
(on how his experience Read more [...]
QUOTES FROM PITTSBURGH STEELERS LINEBACKER JAMES HARRISON ON MEDIA DAY
(on if he expected it to be as cold as it is in Texas today) “Absolutely not. I felt like I was back in Pittsburgh when I woke up. I was kind of pleasantly surprised.”
(on what he remembers from his interception in the last Super Bowl he played in and if it changed his life) “I don’t really remember too much right now. It didn’t change my life at all. It changed the outcome of the game, but that’s really about it.”
(on that play being one of the most famous plays in Super Bowl history) “That was then. Read more [...]
QUOTES FROM PITTSBURGH STEELERS PRESS CONFERENCE AT SUPER BOWL MEDIA DAY
(on his attitude about today) “Taking it in stride, enjoying the opportunity to film all you guys and play in another Super Bowl because you never know when it’s going to be your last one.”
(on his pre-game rituals) “I have a lot of them. One that everybody can see is that before the game I go around and shake everybody on my team’s hand including the coach, coach Tomlin. So you can see that in the pregame.”
(on why he picked number 7) “John Elway. One of my favorites growing up. I had a lot of favorites Read more [...]
Kara Henderson of the NFL Network got a taste of what asking a stupid question to James Harrison on media day will get you. Harrison was asked if he is bitter about the fines and Harrison responded that they took $100K out of his pocket. see the rest of the interview below.

RIGHT OFFENSIVE TACKLE FLOZELL ADAMS
(Will absence of C Maurkice Pouncey affect offense) “I don’t think it’s going to affect us at all, because we have a lot of guys on this team, let alone offensive line, who can step up if someone goes down. There’s no doubt that Doug (Legursky) will do just as good a job, if not better, than Pouncey, being in for him in this Super Bowl. And I mean that.”
(On the “76” Michigan State jerseys his offensive line teammates were wearing on the charter flight) “I had no idea. When I got through Read more [...]

QUARTERBACK BEN ROETHLISBERGER
(on Roger Goodell’s comments as reported in an SI.com column that none of Roethlisberger’s teammates came to his defense last year) “Well, I know for a fact that when the commissioner came to training camp to talk, a lot of the guys kind of did. I’m just thankful that my teammates are who they are and I’m really appreciative of it.”
(on the fact that Roger Goodell said he talked to over 20 players and none came to his defense) “I’m not sure. I wasn’t there. I don’t know exactly what was Read more [...]

Linebacker LaMarr Woodley
(On being in the Super Bowl for a second time) "I'm just trying to keep my day to day the same. This is my second time here, so I'm not caught up in all the hype and the different things that are going on around the city. I'm just going to be focused around the hotel, going out, and maybe going to the movies. A lot of the guys on the team, it's their third time around. I'm still following those veteran guys that have been around for a while, following their leadership and making sure I do things the right Read more [...]

Linebacker James Farrior
(On why Mike Tomlin has been a successful head coach)
"I think with him being such a young coach, he’s able to relate to the players better. He has a good grasp of how guys are feeling in the locker room. He walks around the locker room every day. I think he has a pretty good temperature of the team at all times."
(On if there was a process of Tomlin winning over the locker room)
"It’s always a process when you get a new coach in, but I don’t think it took a long time for him to establish himself Read more [...]

Defensive Lineman Brett Keisel
(On the genesis of his beard)
"The beard - the beard is why we're here. It's unleashed Super Bowl powers on our whole team and hopefully it can win us one more."
(On the beard's name)
"Just ‘The Beard.' There's no other beard that matches it, so it's just ‘The Beard.'
(On where he got the idea to grow the beard)
"I think it just came from Pittsburgh. We've got a great hockey team and they grow their playoff beards out and I saw those guys looking burly and thought, ‘You know what? Read more [...]

WIDE RECEIVER HINES WARD
(On the number one thing that they coach the younger players about)
"You know, just what to expect. You get all the gifts sitting in the room. I think a lot of guys kind of over packed, really not knowing. They were just excited to be here; for a lot of guys, some anxiety. When you get here, you get the police escort and the helicopter following you and all the guys have the cameras and whatnot. It's still fun to see the younger guys and also fun to see the veteran guys. I still enjoy it."
(On the irony Read more [...]

Coach Mike Tomlin AFC Championship Week
January 20, 2011
Coach Tomlin: Good afternoon. I thought we had a good practice today. I really liked the energy and enthusiasm. It’s an arrow up on the execution, of course, which is needed as we push forward towards Sunday. But we’re not a finished product yet. It’s why we have tomorrow, of course, and the day after. So I like where we are, we’ll just continue to push forward.

Pettine notes that several of their players have faced him before and they call Ward the toughest guy in league, when nobody is looking. You can hear the exchange in the audio clip below from the Thursday presser or watch the complete presser here.

It is a sight to see. A thing of legend. Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel and his well talked about beard held a press conference on Thursday and both addressed the media. Keisel was asked questions about his beard and noted the beard has it's own Facebook page and Twitter page and Keisel indeed confirmed that neither were run by him. Keisel said he has been growing the beard since training camp, because playoff beards are popular around Pittsburgh. When asked if there was a purpose for growing it, he said, "Yeah. To look like this." See the picture of Keisel below at his presser and you can Read more [...]
