To no surprise the Steelers placed wide receiver Limas Sweed on the injured reserve list on Tuesday thus ending his season. Sweed injured his Achilles last mini-camp and had surgery to repair it the following week. He was Waived/Injured on Monday and has since cleared waivers. He will now not count against the Steelers 80 man roster. To fill his place on the roster, the Steelers signed first-year wide receiver Isaiah Williams.

Steelers Release UDFA Center A.J. Trump

The Steelers released rookie free agent center A.J. Trump before the start of mini-camp on Friday. Trump was signed as undrafted free agent out of the University of Miami on Monday. The Steelers roster now stands at 90 players with 80 under contract.

As I noted this morning in my around the web segment, it appeared as if Vanderbilt center Bradley Vierling would be signed as an undrafted free agent. According now to the Tennessean, Vierling signed a free-agent football contract with the Steelers on this morning. Steelers Undrafted Free Agent Signings

The draft as over and the Steelers will now begin the process of signing 5-7 undrafted free agents. Check back here and I will pass along the un-drafted free agents as I get them. Steelers Trade For CB Bryant McFadden

The Steelers brought back a familiar face on Saturday as the acquired former starting cornerback Bryant McFadden from the Arizona Cardinals for a fifth-round pick (No. 155). The Steelers also received a sixth-round pick (No. 195) in the deal. The Steelers didn't take a cornerback in the top half of the draft and now we know why. McFadden left Pittsburgh after signing a free-agent deal with the Cardinals following the 2008 Super Bowl season. One day after acquiring quarterback Byron Leftwich in a trade with Tampa Bay, the Steelers extended his current contract. Leftwich had one year left on the two year contract he signed last year with the Buccaneers and the Steelers added one more year to the contract on Wednesday. This means Leftwich is now signed through the 2011 season. Leftwich was present at the Steelers South Side facility this morning, went through his physical evaluation and signed his new contract.

Another familiar face is coming back to Pittsburgh as the Steelers traded one of their two 7th round draft picks to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for quarterback Byron Leftwich. The 7th round pick was18th pick of round 7 and the 255th pick of the draft. The trade now leaves the Steelers with 10 draft picks and another trade could indeed happen by or on Thursday. ESPN John Clayton reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers traded troubled wide receiver Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets for a fifth-round pick in this year's draft, sources confirmed Sunday night. ESPN 1050 in New York first reported the story Sunday night. Holmes had recently been accused of throwing a glass at a woman in a lounge. No charges have been filed against him, and Holmes' lawyer, Adam Swickle, told The Associated Press a male witness has taken responsibility for tossing the glass. Steelers Re-Sign UFA DE Nick Eason

The Steelers will announce on Thursday afternoon that unrestricted free agent defensive end Nick Eason has re-signed with the team. Eason started five games in 2009 for the Steelers when starter Aaron Smith went down with injury. Eason's agent David Wyatt said Wednesday night, "He wanted to stay in Pittsburgh because of his love of the city and the team." Eason visited the Arizona Cardinals this offseason, but did not receive an offer. Eason turns 30 in May and will compete for a roster spot in training camp.

In a not so shocking move, the Steelers announced on Friday that unrestricted free agent quarterback Charlie Batch signed a two-year contract to remain with the team. Financial terms of the deal were not released. Batch will enter his ninth season with the Steelers since signing in 2002. He spent the first four seasons with the Detroit Lions after being selected by Detroit in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft. Batch is expected to battle Dennis Dixon for the number two job during training camp. Just as expected an old friend is coming back to the Steel City as linebacker Larry Foote has signed a 3 year, 9.3 million dollar contract with the Steelers on Monday morning according to ESPN's, Jason La Canfora. The deal reportedly includes a 1.8 million dollar signing bonus. Foote, who will be 30 in June, will provide depth at inside linebacker and will provide the Steelers a proven run-stopper. According to John Clayton the contract is front loaded with Foote earning 3.9 million in year one. Steelers Resign FA S Ryan Clark

In a surprising twist, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that the Steelers have re-signed free agent S Ryan Clark. Clark visited the Dolphins on Monday. Clark's contract reportedly is a 4 year deal in the neighborhood of $17 million with at least $5 million of the contract to be paid during the first year.

Steelers Sign WR Antwaan Randle El

An old familiar face is coming back to the Steelers. Wide receiver Antwaan Randle El signed back with the Steelers on Monday evening after being released by the Washington Redskins. Randle El was drafted in the second round (62nd overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Steelers after playing his college football at Indiana where he was a quarterback. On March 12, 2006, Randle El signed a seven-year, $31 million deal to play for the Washington Redskins after the Super Bowl 40 win against the Seahawks.

The Steelers signed three unrestricted free agents, offensive tackle Jonathan Scott, wide receiver Arnaz Battle and safety Will Allen, to their roster today. Financial terms of all of the contracts were not disclosed, but both Battle and Allen received three year deals. Scott was a fifth-round pick by Detroit in the 2006 draft out of Texas, Scott had six starts in 20 appearances over two seasons with the Lions and was signed to the Bills 53-man roster on December 18, 2008. Steelers Resign ERFA LB Patrick Bailey

Steelers Depot has confirmed that the Steelers exclusive rights free agent linebacker Patrick Bailey has been re-signed by the Steelers to a one year contract at the minimum 3rd year player salary of $470,000. Bailey's agent, Dr. D.S.Ping, confirmed this with us via email. Bailey is entering his 3rd season as an undrafted free agent out of Duke. He was active for all 16 games for the Steelers in 2009 and recorded 13 tackles on special teams.

Casey Hampton Agrees To New 3 Year Contract With Steelers

A key player that the Steelers designated as one of their unrestricted free agent priorities has reportedly agreed to a new three year, $21 million contract to stay with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The contract reported has $11 million of the contract guaranteed with year one paying Hampton 7 plus million. The deal will be announced around 10:00 eastern this morning. Steelers Sign CFL LB Renauld Williams

The Steelers continued signing free agents to their offseason roster on Friday as Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Renauld Williams was signed to a futures contract. Williams played 3 season in the CFL with Saskatchewan and recorded 97 tackles along with 29 special teams tackles in that time. He also recorded 6 quarterback sacks in his 3 years in the CFL. Williams spent three years at Hofstra University where he finished with 233 career tackles while playing linebacker and defensive end.

Steelers Sign CB David Pittman

The Steelers signed former Baltimore Ravens cornerback David Pittman to a contract on Wednesday. Pittman was a third-round draft pick of Baltimore in the 2006 NFL draft after playing his college ball at Northwestern State (La.). Pittman has also spent time on the rosters of both the New Orleans Saints and the Houston Texans. This past season played for the New York Sentinels of the United Football League.

The Steelers signed former University of Pittsburgh punter Adam Graessle and wide receiver Brandon London to their offseason roster on Tuesday. Graessle, who punted at Pitt from 2003-06, was released by the Green Bay Packers before the start of training camp in 2009 and later played in the United Football League with California. London appeared in 14 games with the Miami Dolphins in 2008 but was released before the start of the season. London played at Massachusetts in college.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers special teams demon and backup linebacker Derrick Doggett signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers after working out for them on Tuesday. CFL players going into their option year are eligible to sign with NFL squads until Feb. 15. Doggett, who played his college football for at Oregon State and joined the Bombers in late July and made an immediate impact on special teams. Doggett had 27 special teams tackles in 15 games.
