Paul Ernster is out as the Steelers punter and once again Mitch Berger has been signed to resume the punting duties. Berger is reportedly recovered from his hamstring injury. Ernster averaged just 28.4 yards per punt on five kicks on Thursday night versus the Bengals. The roster move was announced today.
The Steelers have signed wide receiver Dallas Baker back to the practice squad after he cleared waivers. Baker was released last Saturday when cornerback Roy Lewis was promoted to the active roster from the practice squad.

On Saturday the Steelers made a surprising roster move. Not surprising was the promotion of rookie cornerback Roy Lewis to their active roster. The Steelers injured secondary made the move necessary. Surprisingly though, to make room on the roster, wide receiver Dallas Baker was released. This might signal the Steelers being more comfortable with rookie wide receiver Limas Sweed as the number four receiver going forward.
The Steelers re-signed linebacker Donovan Woods back to the practice squad on Wednesday after he cleared waivers. Woods has bounced up and down most of the season between the active roster and the practice squad.

Steelers signed 10-year veteran cornerback Fernando Bryant to a one-year contract. Bryant has made 109 starts in 110 games played during nine NFL seasons. He has recorded 509 tackles (435 solo), seven interceptions, defended 88 passes and recovered seven fumbles. The Steelers made room on their roster for Bryant by releasing rookie linebacker Donovan Woods, and subsequently signing him to the team’s practice squad. The Steelers also added rookie safety Ryan Mundy to their practice squad and released safety Grant Mason in order to make room for Mundy.
The Steelers promoted rookie LB Donovan Woods to their active roster from the practice squad and released back up running back Najeh Davenport.
Steelers released KR Jayson Foster from the practice squad on Thursday and running back Justin Vincent was re-signed to take his place.

The Steelers signed long snapper Jared Retkofsky to the active roster on Tuesday and placed veteran long snapper Greg Warren on injured reserve. Retkofsky originally had been waived in June of this year. The Steelers also signed punter Ricky Schmitt to the practice squad on Tuesday just in case punter Mitch Berger does not respond to treatment on his hamstring.
The Steelers made a roster move on Saturday promoting rookie LB Patrick Bailey to the active roster and releasing LB Donovan Woods.
The Steelers have signed S Grant Mason to the practice squad and have released RB Justin Vincent from the practice squad.
The Steelers signed offensive tackle Jeremy Parquet from their practice squad to their active roster and released first-year defensive tackle Scott Paxson.
The Steelers released defensive tackle Jordan Reffett from the practice squad and signed kick return specialist Jayson Foster. The 5-foot-7, 175-pound Foster starred at Georgia Southern and won the Walter Payton Award, which is given to the top player in Division I-AA, in 2007.
The Steelers today signed linebacker Patrick Bailey to the practice squad. Bailey has played in two games for the Steelers before he was released last Saturday to make room for defensive tackle Scott Paxson on the 53-man roster.

The Steelers announced that rookie offensive guard Doug Legursky and rookie defensive end Jordan Reffett were added to the team’s practice squad. The Steelers made room for both players on the practice squad by promoting RB Gary Russell to the active roster and releasing safety Grant Mason.
The Steelers today signed former running back Najeh Davenport to help add depth to their injured offensive backfield roster. Davenport worked out late this morning and signed a contract early this afternoon. Davenport played for the Steelers the past two seasons but was released after the Steelers drafted running back Rashard Mendenhall. To make room on the roster the Steelers placed Mendenhall (fractured shoulder) and guard Kendall Simmons (ruptured Achilles) on injured reserve.
