Steelers P Brian Moorman Contract Details

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran punter Brian Moorman to their 90 man roster on Tuesday and the details of the contract are now in. Moorman signed a one-year qualifying contract with a base salary of $940,000 and the deal included no signing bonus. Being as it was a qualifying contract, the cap charge for Moorman will be $555,000. Thanks to displacement in the Rule of 51, the signing of Moorman only used up $75,000 in additional cap space. This leaves the Steelers with approximately $392,427.00 in cap room until June when at that time they will get an additional $5 million plus in cap Read more [...]

The ink from the 2013 NFL draft is barely dry and already the projections for the 2014 NFL draft are already coming out. Draft analyst Rob Rang of CBS Sports has now released his first round mock draft for 2014 and he has the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins with the 14th overall selection. Seferian-Jenkins is considered by Rang to be the top tight end in the 2014 class, but it should be noted that the 6-6, 267-pounder was arrested in early April and charged with a misdemeanor DUI. What is about those Washington players drinking and driving? Seferian-Jenkins Read more [...]
The 2013 NFL draft is now behind us and the nine Pittsburgh Steelers draft picks will be present for rookie camp this coming weekend in Pittsburgh. Now that things have settled down, here is  my look at what I expect this upcoming season for every member of the Steelers 2013 draft class. Round 1 - OLB Jarvis Jones - At the very least, Jones should dress for every game and have a prominent role on special teams just like every first year linebacker that plays for the Steelers. As far as Jones seeing the field on the defensive side of the ball goes, that is all up to how fast he picks of the Read more [...]
As I dig deeper into the Pittsburgh Steelers 2013 draft class, I am really starting to drift towards liking the selection of Illinois cornerback Terry Hawthorne, who was selected in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL draft, the most. For starters, you can't help but like Hawthorne's 4.31 speed, and even though he is a hair under six foot tall, he is chiseled and looks every bit of an NFL cornerback. In addition to playing cornerback, he also can return punts and kicks, and can even play wide receiver in a pinch. Now that measurables and beauty pageant aspects have been discussed, let's discuss Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers made a roster move on Tuesday when they signed veteran punter Brian Moorman to compete in training camp with second-year punter Drew Butler. To make room for Moorman on the 90 man roster, wide receiver Bert Reed was waived. Moorman, who was with the Dallas Cowboys just last season, spent his first 12 years in the league with the Buffalo Bills. He has twice been named an All-Pro punter and has made two Pro-Bowl teams. The Bills also named him to the their 50th anniversary team. In 2012, Moorman had an average of 44.6 yards on 56 punts with 22 of them going inside the Read more [...]
On Monday, we passed along the updated odds from Bovada of every team possibly winning Super Bowl XLVIII and today the sports betting website has released some individual player prop over/unders in addition, with one Pittsburgh Steelers rookie really having an eye popping number. According to the website, Steelers first-round draft pick, linebacker Jarvis Jones, has an over/under number of 8.5 total sacks for his rookie season. Considering that a Steelers defensive rookie hasn't opened the season as starter since linebacker Kendrell Bell did it in 2001, that is a pretty high over/under number Read more [...]

Steelers Rookie Camp Takes Place This Upcoming Weekend

The second phase of the offseason workouts for the Pittsburgh Steelers got underway on Monday as coaches are now permitted to work with the players for individual instruction and position drills. In addition, this the first time that coaches can also hold short position meetings with players. In phase one of the offseason program, players were limited to just strength and conditioning workouts only outside of quarterbacks being allowed to throw to uncovered receivers. Below is the official description from the CBA as to what can now take place in the second phase of the offseason: Phase Two Read more [...]
During his talk with the media following the selection of Illinois cornerback Terry Hawthorne in the fifth round on the 2013 NFL draft, defensive backs coach Carnell Lake was asked about cornerback William Gay and his ability to play safety should the need ever arise. "In the past William has played some safety," said Lake. "He’s rotated back there based on some concepts that we were working. My first year with him and even in years past when he was here, he could play safety. I’m not counting on him being a down in and down out safety. He’s not built for a safety position, but he can Read more [...]
It is hard to read very much into the latest offensive depth chart on the official website of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but we will dissect it nonetheless. For starters, Mike Adams is listed as the top right tackle as well as the backup at left tackle behind an empty spot. Head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the tackle spot during his pre draft press conference and would not commit to who between Adams and Marcus Gilbert will play on what side. All Tomlin would give us is the fact that both players are left tackle capable and that they have the spring and the summer to figure out who will start Read more [...]
In a recent article by Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch weighed in on his former team signing backup Bruce Gradkowski this offeseason and drafting Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones in the fourth-round of the 2013 NFL draft this past weekend. Batch indicated that he thinks that the Steelers drafting of Jones goes "much deeper than what's on the surface ... "Maybe they weren't happy with what they had behind Ben and Bruce," said Batch. "That could be. But ultimately, I think this isn't about replacing me. Big picture, maybe they're thinking, Read more [...]
Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert was a guest Monday morning on 93.7 The Fan and he talked about the top three draft picks that the team made this past weekend in the 2013 NFL draft. Of the top three first draft picks, the one that he gave the most elaborate responses to questions about was Michigan State running back Le'Veon Bell, who the Steelers drafted in the second round. Colbert was first asked what set Bell apart from other running backs that remained on the board come time for them to pick in the second round. "First of all, the size is great," said Colbert. "He's Read more [...]
I am just getting started with my full breakdown of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Landry Jones, who was drafred in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL draft, but before doing so, I always like to see if I can find good videos of players talking football versus playing it in order to get a grasp of their IQ and football IQ. Below are three videos of Landry that you may or may not have seen already. One of them includes Landry talking with Jon Gruden during their QB camp episiode. Another one is of him on ESPN First Take and the last one is an interview of him after his pro day. Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Oklahoma wide receiver Justin Brown in the sixth-round of the 2013 NFL draft and below is my breakdown and grade of the pick. Measurables: Combine Invite: No, Height: 6031, Weight: 207, 40 Yrd Dash: 4.60, 20 Yrd Dash: 2.65, 10 Yrd Dash: 1.55, 225 Lb. Bench Reps: 08, Vertical Jump: 30 1/2, Broad Jump: 09'09", 20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.31, 3-Cone Drill: 6.96 Breakdown: Brown is a very long wide receiver and very raw. In the two games that I watched he lined up out wide exclusively on right side and usually on the numbers or just outside of them. While Brown has a Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected nine players in the 2013 NFL draft and signed 15 more as undrafted free agents immediately after it concluded, and of those 24 total players, not a one of them plays tight end. Judging by the Steelers decision to not add to the position group over the course of the weekend, one can easily speculate that this bodes well for veteran tight end Heath Miller, who pulled off the torn ligament trifecta late last season in the game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Many had speculated that the Steelers would add a tight end at some point during the draft and some of Read more [...]

The San Francisco 49ers are currently the favorites with 6/1 odds and behind them are the Denver Broncos at 15/2. A far as the AFC North goes, the Baltimore Ravens are 20/1 and behind them in the division sits the Pittsburgh Steelers at 25/1. Below is a look at all of the teams and their odds to win the Super Bowl this upcoming season. So, are theses odds about right for the Steelers? Too high? Too low? What about the Read more [...]
Early on Monday, an article in the upcoming issue of Sports Illustrated broke the news of NBA player Jason Collins announcing that he's gay, and as you can imagine, the story has created quite a buzz on the social media sites. Taking part in the buzz is Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace, who left the Pittsburgh Steelers via free agency earlier in the offseason after his rookie contract expired. 26-year-old receiver took to Twitter to say, "All these beautiful women in the world and guys wanna mess with other guys SMH…" Not soon after hitting the send button, Wallace deleted his Read more [...]
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN on Twitter, free agent tackle Winston Justice is visiting with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday and is also scheduled to visit with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday. The Steelers did not draft an offensive lineman during the 2013 NFL draft, and even though they signed a handful of undrafted free agents afterwards, they still have question marks as far as depth goes on the offensive line. Justice, who started 12 games with the Indianapolis Colts last season, after spending his first six seasons in the league with the Philadelphia Eagles, is a right tackle Read more [...]

The Pittsburgh Steelers came to terms with free agent running back LaRod Stephens-Howling over the weekend and the contract details are as follows. The former seventh-round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals signed a one-year qualifying contract with the Steelers that includes a base salary of 715,000 and a $65,000 signing bonus.
