As Ed Bouchette reported this morning, veteran Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward has made it clear he wants to come back in 2012 and he is willing to take a pay cut to do so. Ward seems dead set on playing next year and he also made it clear that he will do so elsewhere if the Steelers choose not to bring him back. According to Bouchette, Ward has a clause in his contract that states they must either guarantee his job by March 1st then or release him. There are also reports he has a $1 million roster bonus due at that time, but my records do not match that report. It could be true Read more [...]
The playoffs begin today for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they take on the Denver Broncos in the 2nd AFC Wild Card game of the weekend in Denver. With a win, the Steelers will move on to face the New England Patriots next Saturday. As I have done each and every week this season, here are my 7 things to look for against the Broncos. Also included is my score prediction for the game. Seeing Red - Isaac Redman will make his second career start at running back now that Rashard Mendenhall was lost for the season last week with a torn ACL in his right knee. His first start came back in week 5 against Read more [...]
Maurkice Pouncey and Jerricho Cotchery were both interviewed on 93.7 The Fan and Pouncey made it very clear several times that he is very tired answering questions about Tim Tebow and that he does not date Tebow. Cotchery talks about being part of the Steelers and the upcoming game against the Denver Broncos. Cotchery also was on WFAN in New York and talked about New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes and the problems going on with the Jets. Cotchery is even on the latest episode of Steelers Speaks with Teresa Varley. Rick Smith, the agent for Rashard Mendenhall, said that Mendenhall's Read more [...]

Ben Roethlisberger Since The Ankle Injury

I wanted to do some in-depth research tonight on Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger since he suffered his left high ankle sprain late in the first half against the Cleveland Browns in week 14 and found quite a few things that stuck out to me in the research. Below you will see a table of every pass that Roethlisberger has thrown from the second half of the Browns game on. This table includes the down and distance of the play, the targeted receiver, whether or not the pass was complete and both the yardage gained and yardage that the ball traveled in the air to the intended receiver. First Read more [...]
The week 17 offensive line breakdown report for the Pittsburgh Steelers win this past Sunday against the Cleveland Browns is now complete and overall it was a very solid game for the offensive line as everyone scored 90% or higher. The Browns really did not get that much consistent pressure on quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and there front 4 were very inconsistent at defending at the point of attack. Here are the scores and a recap of each lineman. TOTAL POSPLAYER PLAYSGOOD BADGOOD % SP H LGChris Kemoeatu 75714 95%.51 0 LTMax Starks 82775 94%02 1 Read more [...]
It sounds like Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown might be a victim of his success as TMZ is reporting that the mother of his child filed court documents in Miami, where she claims that Antonio has had custody of their 4-year-old son in Pennsylvania for months and he's not being taken care of. Shameika Brailsford claims Antonio took the child without her permission, and that she hasn't had contact with her son since. According to TMZ she is asking the court for an emergency child pick-up order which would require the child to be picked up by law enforcement and returned to her in Read more [...]

More Steelers Browns Game Observations & Notes

The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cleveland Browns Sunday to close out the regular season at 12-4. As I do every week, here are my deeper post game observations after going through the game tape a few more times. The sack by Lawrence Timmons on the Browns opening saw Timmons come on a delayed blitz and he took on fullback Owen Marecic. Marecic did not hold his block long and Timmons spun away back inside for the sack. Jason Worilds should get a little credit on the play for taking right tackle Artis Hicks up the field to open up the lane. Great tackle on Josh Cribbs by Keenan Lewis on the Read more [...]

Steelers Hold Off Browns 13-9 – Game Recap

The Pittsburgh Steelers had another close game to finish out the 2011 regular season, but they held on to beat the Cleveland Browns 13-9 Sunday at Cleveland Municipal Stadium. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger started despite his left ankle still not being 100% and threw for 221 yards on 40 attempts. He was sacked twice on the afternoon, but did not turn the ball over in the win. Wide receiver Antonio Brown finished out his spectacular sophomore season by hauling in 6 catches for 90 yards. Brown also chipped in 73 yards on 3 kickoff returns in the game and he went over the 1000 yard mark in return Read more [...]
In a very windy Cleveland, Pittsburgh (facing the wind) has struggled to put points on the board. With the second seed on the line, the Steelers have had some great defensive stands to keep Cleveland limited to two field goals. Roethlisberger, with a heavily braced ankle, has used the running game a majority of time to gain yardage. In the second half the Steelers will have the wind at their backs to open up the third quarter. Rashard Mendenhall was injured on a rushing play (knee) and is questionable for a return to the game. Cortez Allen was also injured on a special-teams play and most-likely Read more [...]
It is the final game of the 2011 regular season for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they look to beat the Cleveland Browns before they head into the playoffs. A Steelers win combined with a Baltimore Ravens loss or tie against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday would give them the AFC North title along with a first round bye. As I do every week, here are my 7 things to look for against the Browns as the Steelers look to finish the regular season at 12-4. Also included is my score prediction for the game. Healthy Hillis - Last week St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson ran for 103 yards on 24 carries Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers head into their Sunday game against the Cleveland Browns looking to get their 12th win of the season. With a little help from the Cincinnati Bengals, they could get a first round bye as well should they take care of the Browns. This is the final regular season game of 2011, so there are also a few milestones in reach for a few Steelers players in this upcoming. Let's have a look at a few obvious and not so obvious ones and the chances each player has at reaching them. Hines Ward - You would have to be hiding underneath a rock to not know that Ward needs just five receptions Read more [...]
Season 2, Episode 63 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I get right into the final injury report report of the week for the upcoming game this Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. Who is in, who is out? Who plays and for how long? We discuss it. We then move on to talk about the team awards announced on Thursday. Was Antonio Brown the right choice for team MVP? Do Ben Roethlisberger, Mike Wallace or Ike Taylor have a right to be slighted with the team vote? Who did Wallace vote for anyways? We hammer through all of that as well, plus have a few laughs in the process. In the second Read more [...]
The press conferences of Pittsburgh Steelers 2011 Team MVP Antonio Brown and Chief Award Winner James Farrior from yesterday are up on steelers.com for your viewing pleasure. Bruce Arians and Dick LeBeau both talked to the media on Thursday and here is what they had to say during their Q & A's. Browns defensive coordinator Dick Jauron also talked to the media yesterday and discussed the possibly blitzing Ben Roethlisberger more and how tough it is covering the Steelers receivers. Brian Baldinger does a great job breaking down some of the Steelers favorite plays and how they do it out of Read more [...]
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown was voted the 2011 team MVP on Thursday and while there are some good arguments that can be made that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger or cornerback Ike Taylor should have won the award, Brown was every bit deserving just the same. Brown has 63 catches for 1,018 yards entering the final game of the regular season against the Cleveland Browns, but what is more amazing is that 26 of those 63 catches came on 3rd downs and 22 of those 26 3rd down catches resulted in a Steelers first down with another going for a touchdown. Brown has been targeted 39 Read more [...]

Antonio Brown Voted 2011 Steelers MVP

Pittsburgh Steelers second year wide receiver Antonio Brown was voted by his teammates the winner of the 2011 Steelers MVP Award. Brown became the franchise's single-season leader in all-purpose yards as he has complied 1,018 yards receiving, 664 on kickoff returns, 325 on punt returns and 41 rushing yards through the Steelers first 15 games. The record was previously held by running back Barry Foster, who compiled 2,034 yards in 1992. With his 1,018 yards receiving this season, Brown became the second Steelers receiver to go over 1,000 yards this season as Mike Wallace has 1,182 yards this Read more [...]
