Report: Todd Haley Frontrunner For Steelers Offensive Coordinator Job

Alby Oxenreiter, Sports Director for WPXI, tweets this afternoon that it is his understanding that former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley is the frontrunner for the Pittsburgh Steelers open offensive coordinator job. Since it was announced two weeks ago that Bruce Arians would not return for 2012, Haley was the only interview that has been 100% acknowledged by the Steelers website. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin also has reportedly had interest in Jim Caldwell, Alex Van Pelt and Hue Jackson as well, but if any of those interviews actually did take place, they only have fringe confirmation Read more [...]

Mike Tomlin Interviewed Todd Haley Today For Steelers Offensive Coordinator Position

Jason La Canfora reported last night that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was looking into former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley as a possible candidate for the open offensive coordinator position and now we have confirmation from Bob Labriola that Tomlin interviewed Haley today at the team’s practice facility. Haley, the son of former Steelers Director of Player Personnel Dick Haley, was hired to be the Chiefs head coach in 2009 and was fired late this past season. Prior to coaching the Chiefs, Haley was the offensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals under former Read more [...]

Report: Mike Tomlin Checking Out Todd Haley & Alex Van Pelt

Jason La Canfora is reporting tonight via Twitter that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has made inquiries into former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley and former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, presumably for the open offensive coordinator position with the Steelers. Both Haley and Van Pelt have links back to the Steelers organization as Haley is the son of Dick Haley, the Steelers former Director of Player Personnel and Van Pelt, a star college quarterback at the University of Pittsburgh, was drafted by the Steelers in the 8th round of the 1993 draft. AFC Beats NFC In Pro Bowl, 59-41

The Pittsburgh Steelers had five players in the 2012 Pro Bowl game Sunday in Hawaii and all 5 made contributions. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw two touchdown passes Sunday to help lead the AFC to a 59-41 win over the NFC in the annual NFL All-Star game. In addition to the two touchdowns, Roethlisberger completed 6-of-11 passes for 181 yards as he started the game at quarterback for the AFC squad. He connected with Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green for a 34-yard touchdown for the AFC’s first points of the game and found Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall for a 74-yard Read more [...]

Report: Former Steelers OC Bruce Arians Has Had Talks With Other Teams

File this report in the “doesn’t mean crap” category but it is my duty to pass along the report by Jason La Canfora on Twitter today that stated former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians has had talks with other NFL teams since it was announced last week that he would not be back with the Steelers in 2012. La Canfora reports that one of those talks was with the Arizona Cardinals, and presumably with head coach Ken Whisenhunt about the vacant quarterbacks coach job. Whisenhunt of course was the Steelers offensive coordinator under head coach Bill Cowher from 2004-2006 and Arians Read more [...]

Looking At The Steelers Top Offensive Coordinator Candidates To Replace Bruce Arians

The news officially broke this morning that Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians will not be back in 2012 according to a statement by head coach Mike Tomlin. With the offensive coordinator position now open I have put together a list below of the likeliest candidates to be the Steelers next offensive coordinator. Tomlin will be down in Mobile, Alabama next week for the Senior Bowl and there could be a few interviews that take place down there, but that is just speculation. Those interviews could include a few coaches not on my list below as well, as the Senior Bowl always is a Read more [...]

Steelers Likely To Be Awarded Two 7th Round Compensatory 2012 Draft Picks

While the 2012 compensatory draft picks will not be announced until the league meetings in March, it is pretty easy to guess that the Steelers at worst will receive two 7th round compensatory draft picks for the loss of unrestricted free agents, tight end Matt Spaeth and defensive tackle Nick Eason, last offseason. Compensatory picks are awarded based on a formula that takes into account salary, playing time and postseason honors of each lost free agent and the there must be a net loss of unrestricted free agents by the team to receive compensatory picks. The formula was developed by the NFL Read more [...]

Looking At The Steelers 2012 Free Agents Heading Into The Offseason

The questions are rolling in about the Pittsburgh Steelers 2012 free agents so I threw together a quick rundown of the restricted, unrestricted and exclusive rights free agents as the Steelers head into the offseason. The 6 restricted free agents will all certainly be tendered with only Mike Wallace receiving a first round tender. The other 5 will receive the lowest one year tenders. These amounts have not yet been released and I will post those amounts later in the offseason when they are made known. Both exclusive right free agents have no choice but to accept their tender offers and they can’t Read more [...]

Hines Ward Not Ready To Think About Future

The Pittsburgh Steelers 2011 season came to an abrupt end on the first play of overtime Sunday against the Denver Broncos as quarterback Tim Tebow hit wide receiver Demaryius Thomas for a 80-yard touchdown pass and the Broncos defeated Steelers 29-23 in the AFC wild-card playoff game. Not only was it the end of the Steelers 2011 season, it could be the final game for veteran wide receiver Hines Ward as well. Ward was asked about his thoughts on next season after the game and he replied, “No, I’m not even thinking about that. My heart is towards my teammates and towards this game. There are a Read more [...]

Week 17 – 7 Things To Look For Against The Browns & Game Prediction

It is the final game of the 2011 regular season for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they look to beat the Cleveland Browns before they head into the playoffs. A Steelers win combined with a Baltimore Ravens loss or tie against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday would give them the AFC North title along with a first round bye. As I do every week, here are my 7 things to look for against the Browns as the Steelers look to finish the regular season at 12-4. Also included is my score prediction for the game. Healthy Hillis – Last week St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson ran for 103 yards on 24 carries Read more [...]

Steelers Need Bengals Help For First Round Bye – AFC Playoff Picture Week 17 Scenarios

The Pittsburgh Steelers took care of the St. Louis Rams today at Heinz Field, but only received some possible future help in week 16 from the Indianapolis Colts Thursday night as they knocked off the Houston Texans with a last second touchdown. Heading into today, the Steelers needed to beat the Rams and hope that the Cleveland Browns could some how knock off the Baltimore Ravens to take the lead in the AFC North division. The Ravens held a 20-0 lead over the Browns, but let them back into the game in the 4th quarter. The Browns closed within 6 points with 8:30 left in the game, but they could Read more [...]

Week 16 – 7 Things To Look For Against The Rams & Game Prediction

It seems like the Pittsburgh Steelers just returned back from blacked out San Francisco and now they must turn around quickly, lick their wounds and host the 2-12 St. Louis Rams today at Heinz Field. Starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not start this game due to his bad left ankle, but could be in uniform just in case of emergency. The Rams are a very depleted squad and that certainly will be just what the Steelers need on a short week. As I do every week, here are my 7 things to look for against the Rams as the Steelers look to move to 11-4 on the season along with my score prediction. No Read more [...]

Show Hines Ward Some Extra Love Saturday At Heinz Field, Just In Case

The Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday game against the St. Louis Rams certainly does not have a lot of drama to it outside of wondering if quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will play on his injured left ankle, but the underlying back story in this game is that there is an outside chance that it could be the last game at Heinz Field for veteran wide receiver Hines Ward. The Steelers currently sit as the #5 seed in the AFC, and unless the Baltimore Ravens lose one of their two final games of the season, the Steelers will likely make their march towards their 7th Lombardi Trophy on the road in the playoffs.
