According to a tweet by Pittsburgh Steelers tackle Marcus Gilbert, the Steelers have signed linebacker Brandon Hicks to a futures contract. Hicks was a teammate with Gilbert at the University of Florida and was signed by the Buffalo Bills after going undrafted last April. Hicks did not make the Bills final 53 man roster and was released prior to the start of the 2011 regular season.
At his Florida pro day last March, Hicks measured in at 6023 and weighed 231 pounds. His unofficial 40 time was 4.83, he did 12 reps of 225 ponds, had a 31 inch vertical jump, a 09'10" broad jump and a 4.38 short

You can scratch the name of Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements off of the list of potential candidates to be the Pittsburgh Steelers new offensive coordinator as it was announced today that Clements has been promoted to offensive coordinator by the Packers according to Kareem Copeland from the Green Bay Press Gazette.
The move was expected after Joe Philbin left to become the Miami Dolphins new head coach. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers also made his feelings known that he was hoping that Clements would be promoted as well. Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy said today: “Tom

Jason La Canfora is reporting tonight via Twitter that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has made inquiries into former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley and former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, presumably for the open offensive coordinator position with the Steelers. Both Haley and Van Pelt have links back to the Steelers organization as Haley is the son of Dick Haley, the Steelers former Director of Player Personnel and Van Pelt, a star college quarterback at the University of Pittsburgh, was drafted by the Steelers in the 8th round of the 1993 draft.

While it is not official yet, the Green Bay Packers are expected to promote quarterback coach Tom Clements to offensive coordinator according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The Packers previous offensive coordinator, Joe Philbin, was named head coach of the Miami Dolphins on Friday. Silverstein reports that a source familiar with the Packers operation said it was expected that Clements would replace Philbin.
Clements name has been tossed around by many as possible candidate for the Pittsburgh Steelers open offensive coordinator position after it was announced on Friday

The Pittsburgh Steelers officially made several future contract signings official today that I had previously reported along with a few players that had not yet surfaced. Officially signed now to future contracts are quarterback Troy Smith, cornerback Walter McFadden, wide receiver Tyler Beiler, wide receiver David Gilreath, wide receiver Derrick Williams and wide receiver Jimmy Young.
the two new names on this list that were not yet reported are McFadden and Gilreath. McFadden spent a portion of 2010 and 2011 with the Oakland Raiders and on the practice squads of the Jacksonville Jaguars and

The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cleveland Browns 13-9 today in Cleveland and will travel to Denver next week to take on the Denver Broncos in one of the two AFC wild card games. Despite the win, the Steelers did not get the help they needed from the Cincinnati Bengals to capture the AFC North as the Bengals lost to the Baltimore Ravens 24-16. The Ravens win means they have won the AFC North and the #2 seed in the AFC. The New England Patriots are the #1 seed after they beat the Buffalo Bills today.
The Broncos won the AFC West despite losing 7-3 to the Kansas City Chiefs today as the Oakland

The New England Patriots clinched the #1 seed in the AFC and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs today with their come from behind win against the Buffalo Bills. The Patriots trailed 21-0 before rattling off 49 unanswered points for a 49-21 win to end the regular season at 13-3.
The win by the Patriots means that the Pittsburgh Steelers can only get either the #2 seed or #5 seed in the AFC depending on what happens with their own game against the Cleveland Browns and the outcome of the Baltimore Ravens game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Steelers can still clinch the AFC North

Week 16 is now in the books and all but three playoff spots remain up for grabs now. Here is our weekly look at the explosive plays and turnovers for the games this past week. The plus 2 number went 10-1 this past week and year to date in head to head games the plus 2 teams are now 131-29 and the winning percentage clicks up to 82%, 2% higher than the expected 80% number with 1 week remaining in the regular season. Teams with a mere positive TOX stat went 11-4 this week. Teams with a positive turnover differential went 9-4 overall this week and teams with a positive explosive play differential

To Ben, or not to Ben, that is the question. It will be a question that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin will be asked several different ways during his Tuesday press conference and when his final decision is made on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, it will be second guessed for several more weeks to come.
Ben Roethlisberger of course is still recovering from his high left ankle sprain suffered in the last game against the Browns on December 8th. That injury took place in the second quarter and he was able to return and play the second half as the Steelers came away with the win.

The Pittsburgh Steelers took care of the St. Louis Rams today at Heinz Field, but only received some possible future help in week 16 from the Indianapolis Colts Thursday night as they knocked off the Houston Texans with a last second touchdown.
Heading into today, the Steelers needed to beat the Rams and hope that the Cleveland Browns could some how knock off the Baltimore Ravens to take the lead in the AFC North division. The Ravens held a 20-0 lead over the Browns, but let them back into the game in the 4th quarter. The Browns closed within 6 points with 8:30 left in the game, but they could

The Monday night game is now over and I have the TOX stats from week 13 below. The plus 2 number recovered from the hit it took last week as it went 11-1 this week with the Buffalo Bills being the lone team to lose.
Year to date in head to head games the plus 2 teams are now 103-26 and gets the winning percentage back to the expected 80% number. Teams with a mere positive TOX stat went 12-3 this week. Teams with a positive turnover differential went an amazing 14-0 overall this week and teams with a positive explosive play differential went 11-3 this week.

Despite their win last Sunday night against the Chiefs, the Steelers received almost no help in the other week 12 games to get some separation as far as the 2011 playoff picture goes. The Ravens, Bengals, Texans, Patriots, Raiders and Titans all won, and unfortunately the Bills did not knock off the Jets. The Steelers can certainly knock the Bengals out of the AFC North race with a win against them on Sunday, but let's look at a few other games in week 13 that could certainly help the Steelers inch even close to a playoff birth.
Browns Over Ravens - Yes, this one is an obvious one, but we have

The Steelers are of course enjoying their bye week in week 11, but there is still a good chance they could retain the lead the AFC North division by the end of the early games. There will be a few other games that could go the Steelers way today that could help down the line and below is the wish list for week 11.
Bengals over Ravens - This is pretty straight forward here as should the Bengals find a way to knock off the Ravens today, the Steelers will sit atop the AFC North after being down 2 games following their week 9 loss to the Ravens.
Falcons over Titans - The Titans could eventually

It has been a very busy day on the free agent market and one of the Steelers unrestricted free agents, tackle Willie Colon, is reportedly drawing quite a bit of interest from several teams on Wednesday.
Adam Caplan of FoxSports.com reported earlier today that the Seahawks, Bears and Bills all have interest in Colon, but the Bills interest is being refuted by a few people that cover the Bills closely. The Chiefs and Falcons are two other teams that are rumored to have inquired about Colon as well.
Colon is coming off an Achilles injury that cost him the entire 2010 season and his asking price
