Steelers rookie offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey is being investigated by the NCAA over an allegation that he accepted $100,000 from an undisclosed agent's representative before playing in the Florida Gators Sugar Bowl victory. Pouncey does not face any trouble from the NFL, but it could effect the University. Pounceys will reportedly deny any wrong doing today, but it is just one more story that shows a Steelers player in a negative light as the offseason from hell continues.
Bob Labriola has a look at new offensive line coach Sean Kugler and his upcoming first training camp in which he must

This post will ruffle feathers for sure on a Friday, but read it thoroughly before jumping to conclusions. Also this is just speculationat this point, but does bare watching. As everyone knows the Steelers have 4 quarterbacks on their roster headed into camp. This is not unusual as most will carry an extra arm to spread out the reps, especially with the 3rd and 4th team units in camp. Normally these "camp arms" are late round draft picks or undrafted college players. The Steelers however have 4 seasoned quarterbacks this year, because Ben Roethlisberger will be suspended for at least the first

The countdown to Latrobe is now almost down to 30 days and with all but 2 draft picks signed, it is time to start doing our Steelers Training Camp Previews by position. The first installment focuses on the Steelers quarterback position. I am fine tuning several others of these and should have them spaced out enough to quench your thirst for Steelers information all the way until the start of camp.

In so many words Thursday, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin named Byron Leftwich the team's No. 1 quarterback Thursday following the conclusion of offseason practices. Dennis Dixon will be No. 2 followed by Charlie Batch. Scott Brown speculates that Dixon would have to play lights out during the preseason to unseat Leftwich as the No. 1. That is not impossible mind you, but unprobable.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had glowing words for first-round draft pick Maurkice Pouncey on Thursday saying Pouncey could be a candidate to start at right guard and still a candidate for center as well. Tomlin

A new Steelers DVD is being released, but likely not one that you hoped to see as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is set to release more than 50 DVDs relating to the Ben Roethlisberger sexual assault case today. Even though Roethlisberger was not charged in the case, Georgia law requires authorities to release evidence if requested.
Steelers right tackle Willie Colon might not ever secure a long term deal with the team according to his agent, Joe Linta. Linta told the Tribune that Colon is destined to play for another NFL team in another year or two and that no talks have taken place between

The Steelers resumed OTA mini camps on Tuesday and head coach Mike Tomlin held a press conference afterward s. Here is the transcript.
The QB rotation remained Byron Leftwich No. 1, Dennis Dixon No. 2 & Charlie Batch No. 3 as the OTA's continue on through this week. Mike Tomlin has said he'd know who his new starter is when training camp opened. Scott Brown notes the weight Leftwich has lost.
The Ed Bouchette weekly Steelers chat transcript was posted yesterday afternoon for reading. Ed puts to bed the laughable JaMarcus Russell and Terrell Owens talk.

Now that we have seen the initial quarterback rotation during mini-camp. Which quarterback do you hope starts the season for the Steelers in place of the suspended Ben Roethlisberger? Please vote only once and remember that the poll is only up for 24 hours.

Here are some notes below I have collected from the Steelers Friday mini-camp practice.
Byron Leftwich worked as the first team quarterback followed by Dennis Dixon and then Charlie Batch.
Cornerback Bryant McFadden worked as the first team left cornerback ahead of William Gay while Gay worked as the nickel back and the first-team special teams gunner opposite special teams ace, Anthony Madison.
Andre Frazier worked first team outside right linebacker in place of the absent James Harrison, who was excused for a death in a family back home. Second-round pick Jason Worilds backed up Frazier.
Fourth-round

Yesterday the Steelers sent a 7th round pick to the Buccaneers for our old friend Byron Leftwich. Was it a good deal? Sure it was as you know what you are getting in Leftwich and the Steelers basically are giving back a 7th round compensatory pick they received when they lost him via free agency after the 2008 season so to speak.
What the trade really reveals though is several things. First, the Steelers plan to be without Ben Roethlisberger for an extended amount of time. 4-6 games according to ESPN reports this morning at least. Also you still can not rule out a trade still. While not likely

Another familiar face is coming back to Pittsburgh as the Steelers traded one of their two 7th round draft picks to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for quarterback Byron Leftwich. The 7th round pick was18th pick of round 7 and the 255th pick of the draft. The trade now leaves the Steelers with 10 draft picks and another trade could indeed happen by or on Thursday. The trade now shores up the quarterback position a bit more with the looming suspension of Ben Roethlisberger. Leftwich will look to compete with Dennis Dixon for the number 2 role, while veteran Charlie Batch will likely be behind both Dixon

Commissioner Roger Goodell has plans to meet this week with Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Goodell is awaiting today's news conference in Georgia set for 2 p.m. ET before proceeding with his planned meeting.
Really the trade of Santonio Holmes to the Jets last night was not surprising, what would be surpising is if Jets running back Leon Washington was part of the deal. Washington has yet to sign his tender offer from the Jets yet, so that is what makes this sketchy right now.
What several Steelers fans are missing in all this is that Santonio Holmes will indeed be suspended for

In a not so shocking move, the Steelers announced on Friday that unrestricted free agent quarterback Charlie Batch signed a two-year contract to remain with the team. Financial terms of the deal were not released. Batch will enter his ninth season with the Steelers since signing in 2002. He spent the first four seasons with the Detroit Lions after being selected by Detroit in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft. Batch is expected to battle Dennis Dixon for the number two job during training camp. Batch ended the 2009 season as the number three quarterback after injuring his wrist in the overtime

With the latest Ben Roethlisberger allegations still going on and the 2010 NFL draft lingering right around the corner, I have been reading and hearing several comments from Steeler Nation suggesting the Steelers should draft Tim Tebow because of his altar boy like image. Yes, I am clearly aware that Ben's actions as of late have not been very Steeler like. I also am aware that Ben has not been charged with any crime. He has been judged already in the public opinion and regardless of the outcomes in Georgia and Nevada, Ben will always wear that scarlet letter right next to the Steelers logo.
Just
