Steelers Titans Week 2 Friday Practice Injury Report

The Steelers wrapped up practice preparations on Friday for the week 2 game against the Tennessee Titans this Sunday in Nashville. T Max Starks (ankle) and NT Casey Hampton (hamstring) both sat out for the third straight day of practice and both are listed as out for this week. NT Chris Hoke will start in place of Hampton while T Jonathan Scott will likely get the nod at left tackle in place of Starks. LB Jason Worilds (shoulder) and WR Emmanuel Sanders (quad) both sat out again and both are listed as doubtful. This means that rookies LB Thaddeus Gibson and WR Antonio Brown will both likely be Read more [...]
Steelers free safety Ryan Clark joined 93.7 The Fan and talked about the Steelers win in week 1 over the Atlanta Falcons as well previewed the Week 2 game against the Tennessee Titans and how the team will handle Chris Johnson, and Vince Young. Jim Wexell goes over the great record that backup nose tackle Chris Hoke has when starting in place of an injured Casey Hampton and how he still feers failure after all of these years. Steelers rookie wide receiver Antonio Brown is playing Titans running back Chris Johnson on the scout team this week to better prepare the Steelers defense for the speed Read more [...]
Yesterday was an incredible win by the Steelers and it might end up being one of the most significant wins of the season when we get to December. Time will of course tell, but the Falcons were no push over on both sides of the ball and with starting Ben Roethlisberger out the first four games, the Steelers need to go only .500 or better to be in good shape upon his return. The Sunday win is the first of two needed wins in the four game stretch, but was also a costly one as starting left tackle Max Starks went down with a serious high ankle sprain and nose tackle Casey Hampton injured his hamstring Read more [...]

Steelers Beat Falcons 15-9 – Game Recap & Notes

The Steelers beat the Atlanta Falcons 15-9 in the 1st game of the 2010 season. Below are my recap notes and nuggets I kept on the game along with my observations. I have much more coming on this game and am working through the night. These are initial reactions of mine as I am about to watch the game a second time and begin working up tape selections. Below are the notes I compiled throughout the game. remember these are initial reactions one time through the game. I think you saw more reasons today why Dennis Dixon was behind Byron Leftwich in the pecking order. Very shaky at times and got Read more [...]

Steelers 2010 Season Preview & Prediction

Opening Statement: So much has happened since the final 2009 season game against Miami and the start of the season must be a welcome sight for the Steelers players and coaches. The preseason was a bit of a blur and was overall a success until quarterback Byron Leftwich went down with a MCL injury in the final game against Carolina. The roster has been paired down to 53 and features 8 rookie draft picks and 17 players 30 years of age or over, 10 of which are defensive players. The picture heading into the 2010 season is pretty clear for the Steelers as franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger Read more [...]
The 53 man roster is set for now and the Steelers are about to announce their practice squad and begin preparations to face the Altanta Falcons in week 1 of the 2010 season. Before the season starts, I wanted to take a look at the current players on the 53 man roster who are in their final year of their contract and schedules to be free agents in 2011, if a new CBA is reached and a lock out is avoided. Currently 18 players are entering the final year of their contract and I have a small blurb on each. we will revisit this list much later in the season as it surely will be changed. QB Dennis Read more [...]
On the way to the locker-room following the game, cornerback Keenan Lewis punched a sign that was encased in glass, shattering the glass in the process. This of course drew more ire from head coach Mike Tomlin. Rookie wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders twice failed to come back to the ball on sideline routes and ran the wrong route that resulted in the Charlie Batch interception returned for a touchdown by cornerback Syd-Quan Thompson late in the game. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger reportedly is expected to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell after the team's final preseason game on Thursday Read more [...]

It looks like the Steelers are indeed done with contracts for the offseason and once the season starts, no new deals are likely to be done, especially with the cloudy NFL labor situation. To the best of my calculations, the Steelers have 25 of 81 players on the final year of their current contract. I did not prioritize them below, but it is not hard to pick out those that are high profile moving forward. Those players would be: LaMarr Woodley, Ike Taylor, Jeff Reed and Daniel Sepulveda in my opinion. Dennis Dixon, Willie Colon and Trai Essex are fringe at this point. I have included a blurb on Read more [...]
Steelers defensive line coach John Mitchell says he feels great about the defensive line going into camp. Starters Aaron Smith, Casey Hampton and Brett Keisel are all healthy and in great shape while Ziggy Hood should be able to contribute more this year as he is playing with better pad level, using his hands better and staying on his feet more this offseason. Mitchell hopes to rotate in Hood, Nick Eason and Chris Hoke to keep the line fresher with no drop offs this season. Steelers.com has part 2 up of the "Ask The Steelers" segment with rookie running back Jonathan Dwyer. The supplemental Read more [...]
In so many words Thursday, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin named Byron Leftwich the team's No. 1 quarterback Thursday following the conclusion of offseason practices. Dennis Dixon will be No. 2 followed by Charlie Batch. Scott Brown speculates that Dixon would have to play lights out during the preseason to unseat Leftwich as the No. 1. That is not impossible mind you, but unprobable. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had glowing words for first-round draft pick Maurkice Pouncey on Thursday saying Pouncey could be a candidate to start at right guard and still a candidate for center as well. Tomlin Read more [...]
Many fans and talking heads are linking the Steelers as a possibly landing spot for ex-Rams quarterback Marc Bulger, who was released yesterday, but the Bears makes much more sense. I do not think he will be signed by Pittsburgh. The Steelers will entertain Iowa offensive lineman Bryan Bulaga for a pre draft visit today. Bulaga is 6-foot-5, 314 pounds, and primarily played left tackle, but did start five games at left guard as a freshman. That makes 14 visitors now to the South Side of the league allowed 30. PFT has their mock draft up and color me unimpressed. I understand trying to be a Read more [...]
Tiger Woods owes Big Ben a great big thank you as Ben is knocking Tiger off of the front pages of TMZ and such. The latest hot story for some reason is Ben having his picture taken with some Milledgeville Police Officers prior to the report of the incident. What this has to do with anything, I have no idea. It has been a while since we have heard from Observer Reporter writer Dale Lolley. Lolley has finally penned his thoughts on the whole Ben Roethlisberger saga and done so quite eloquently if I might say. Oh yes, this is just great as well. Who really gives a shit what Michael Irvin thinks Read more [...]
Buffalo News writer, Allen Wilson, has his first mock draft of 2010 up and has the Steelers taking Mike Iupati from Idaho. If the Steelers do indeed draft offense with the first round pick, I can see Iupati being it right now. However, I am still thinking we draft defense first at this point in time. Well, thanks to all of our readers of the blog, Twitter and Facebook, we have made it to the Final Four of the 2010 Pittsburgh Sports Blog contest. I do not think they are happy to have a #8 seed crash the party and they surely have the wrong info up on our post dates. Our blog page is set up to Read more [...]
