Some new details are now coming out about what may have led to Pittsburgh Steelers rookie right tackle Marcus Gilbert being benched Saturday against the St. Louis Rams. Steelers Digest editor Bob Labriola said today on his podcast that Gilbert had arrived to the Steelers facility early one morning this past week and had some breakfast prior to a scheduled meeting. When Gilbert finished his breakfast it was still not time for the meeting to start so he went down to the players lounge, sat in a chair and subsequently fell asleep. Labriola reports that was where Gilbert was when the meeting started. Read more [...]

We still have one week left to go in the 2011 NFL season, but we now have enough to go on to give you the Pittsburgh Steelers 2012 opponents that will be on their 2012 schedule. The only thing that remains to be decided is if the the Steelers will host the New England Patriots or the New York Jets and if they will travel to play either the Houston Texans or the Tennessee Titans. Should the Steelers win the AFC North on Sunday, they will host the Patriots and visit the Texans. If they do not win the AFC North on Sunday, they will host the Jets and visit the the Titans instead. Those are the only Read more [...]
I have compiled the Adjusted Net Yards Per Passing Attempt Differential Stats now through week 16 and the Pittsburgh Steelers have slipped down to 4th place in net differential behind the Detroit Lions, who shot up 0.29 this past week in their win over the San Diego Chargers. The Dallas Cowboys and the New York Jets were the two biggest sliders this week as the Cowboys slipped -0.47 in differential this week while the Jets dropped -0.45 in the stat. Despite their come from behind win over the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, the New England Patriots also slipped -0.25 in differential this past week. The Read more [...]
To Ben, or not to Ben, that is the question. It will be a question that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin will be asked several different ways during his Tuesday press conference and when his final decision is made on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, it will be second guessed for several more weeks to come. Ben Roethlisberger of course is still recovering from his high left ankle sprain suffered in the last game against the Browns on December 8th. That injury took place in the second quarter and he was able to return and play the second half as the Steelers came away with the win. Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers week 17 game next Sunday against the Cleveland Browns in Cleveland has had a time change. The game has been moved from a 1:00 p.m. EST kickoff to 4:15 p.m. EST start time. To add to the drama, the Baltimore Ravens Sunday game in Cincinnati against the Cincinnati Bengals has also been flexed the same way as well and will now start at 4:15 p.m. EST. The NFL utilizes “flexible scheduling” on Sundays in Weeks 10-15 and 17 to ensure quality matchups in all NFL Sunday time slots. Also being flexed, the week 17 Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants game on Sunday, January 1 Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers took care of the St. Louis Rams today at Heinz Field, but only received some possible future help in week 16 from the Indianapolis Colts Thursday night as they knocked off the Houston Texans with a last second touchdown. Heading into today, the Steelers needed to beat the Rams and hope that the Cleveland Browns could some how knock off the Baltimore Ravens to take the lead in the AFC North division. The Ravens held a 20-0 lead over the Browns, but let them back into the game in the 4th quarter. The Browns closed within 6 points with 8:30 left in the game, but they could Read more [...]

Steelers Shutout Rams 27-0 – Game Recap

The Pittsburgh Steelers notched their second shutout of the season on Saturday at Heinz Field with their 27-0 win over the St. Louis Rams. The win moves the Steelers to 11-4 on the season and they remain in second place in the AFC North after the Baltimore Ravens held off a late charge by the Cleveland Browns today. Veteran quarterback Charlie Batch, who started in place of the ailing Ben Roethlisberger, was 15 of 22 passing on the day for 208 yards in the game. He had just one interception on the day on a ball intended for wide receiver Antonio Brown. Both Batch and Brown had slips on that Read more [...]
It seems like the Pittsburgh Steelers just returned back from blacked out San Francisco and now they must turn around quickly, lick their wounds and host the 2-12 St. Louis Rams today at Heinz Field. Starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not start this game due to his bad left ankle, but could be in uniform just in case of emergency. The Rams are a very depleted squad and that certainly will be just what the Steelers need on a short week. As I do every week, here are my 7 things to look for against the Rams as the Steelers look to move to 11-4 on the season along with my score prediction. No Read more [...]

Colts Win Over Texans Could Help Steelers

The Indianapolis Colts may have given the Pittsburgh Steelers an early Christmas present tonight as they knocked off the Houston Texans 19-16 in the closing seconds of Thursday night football. The Colts trailed the entire game until Colts quarterback Dan Orlovsky hit wide receiver Reggie Wayne for a 1 yard touchdown with 19 seconds left in the game to give the Colts the improbable win. The loss by the Texans drops them to 10-5 on the season and it could cost them a first round bye in the playoffs as well. The Steelers could benefit from the Texans loss should they run the table against the St. Read more [...]
Scott Brown is reporting this afternoon via Twitter that Pittsburgh Steelers second year wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders said that he doesn't know 100 percent if he is going to play Saturday against the St. Louis Rams because of his injured right foot. Sanders main goal right now is to be ready for the playoffs, according to Brown, and he said he doesn't want this injury to remain a lingering one. Sanders broke his right foot in the loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl back in February and had it surgically repaired quickly. He then had another surgery on his left foot in the spring Read more [...]

Ravens To Be Without Anquan Boldin Next Two Weeks

Word came out this morning that Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin will be sidelined the next two weeks after having surgery today to repair a torn meniscus. He is expected to miss the games against the Cleveland Browns, and more importantly, the week 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. This injury is pretty big news as the Ravens offense really could be even more one dimensional than they already are and they will rely even more now on running back Ray Rice to carry the load the final two weeks. The Ravens currently sit tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers atop the AFC North at 10-4, Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers head into their Monday night game against the San Francisco 49ers knowing that they now control their own destiny in regards to the number one seed in the AFC and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The chance to control their own destiny comes after the Baltimore Ravens lost tonight 34-14 on the road to the San Diego Chargers, and that loss now drops them to 10-4 on the season. That loss combined with the Houston Texans loss earlier in the day against the Carolina Panthers now means that the Steelers could have a full game lead on both teams if they can take care Read more [...]
The New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens both clinched spots in the 2011 playoffs this evening as the Patriots beat the Denver Broncos 41-23 in Denver to clinch the AFC East, and the Ravens clinched a playoff spot in addition. There were several scenarios that could have helped the Ravens today and they had their pick of them to choose from as the Broncos, New York Jets, Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans all lost today. Heading into the weekend only the Houston Texans had clinched a playoff spot on the AFC side and they were joined by the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier in the day as Read more [...]
The Monday night game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Francisco 49ers will be short several key players as the Steelers will be without center Maurkice Pouncey, linebacker James Harrison and possibly even quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and the 49ers look to be missing their best linebacker Patrick Willis. Should the Baltimore Ravens lose Sunday night to the San Diego Chargers, the Steelers will have a chance to take back over the lead in the AFC North with a win. The 49ers are still fighting to preserve a first round bye in the playoffs and recover from their loss last week against Read more [...]
Oh joy, the NFL has released a new video that shows new examples of legal and illegal hits on defenseless players. The seven-minute video, narrated by NFL Vice President of Officiating Carl Johnson, views more like something that the Iraqi Information Minister put out years ago. In the video, Johnson tries to show how players on defense are to lower their target when hitting a receiver. Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark is featured as a player delivering an illegal hit on Baltimore Ravens tight end Ed Dickson several few weeks ago. On the flip side, Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace is Read more [...]
