Steelers free safety Ryan Clark talks about his near death experience in Denver almost 3 years ago and how it benefited his daughter, Loghan. As it helped identify that she too has the same sickle-cell trait as her dad. Clark also talks about the struggles the defense had last year as well.
Steelers outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley talks about how training on a treadmill with an incline of 40 degrees and a top speed of 28 mph has helped him over the years.
Mike Bires writes about the insurance that Larry Foote brings to the linebacking core this season. Foote says the coaches have told him he is going to play this year, so he is just trying to put his cards on the table and see what happens. Foote will spell both inside linebackers James Farrior and Lawrence Timmons, but will likely see most of his work on 3rd downs.
The Tuesday Ed Bouchette chat transcript is now up on the PPG blog.
Former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher said he believes quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be more mature from now on after having the offseason to reflect on his off-field troubles in his career, according to The Associated Press. "There's no question as a player he's always been a great player," Cowher said. "But there's a lot more to this professionally than that. It's how you carry yourself off the field. I think he realizes that now. I really think you're going to see a different person."
Former Steelers running back Willie Parker will get his chance to make an impression Friday with the Redskins on Friday night. Parker is part of a large stable of backs fighting for a roster spot that includes. Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson, Ryan Torain and Keiland Williams.

We all knew running back Willie Parker would not be re-signed this past offseason. The writing was on the wall and he clearly is not the same running back he once was. The league must of thought the same thing as it showed with the lukewarm reception he got in free agency. The Redskins ended up being the landing spot for Parker as he signed a one year contract laced with incentives and only a $850,000 base salary.
The Redskins posted their first updated training camp depth chart on its Web site Monday afternoon, the same chart that hangs in the team's locker room. According to it, Parker appears slated to enter the team's first preseason game as the Redskins No. 4 running back, behind Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson and Ryan Torain. Parker is no special teams warrior, so as it stands right now, Willie could be back on the streets again in a few weeks looking for a job.
The Steelers current running back depth chart has very limited NFL game experience and as it looks right now will consist of 3rd year man Rashard Mendenhall, veteran third down back Mewelde Moore and undrafted practice squad hold over Isaac Redman. Rookie draft pick Jonathan Dwyer can't really be thrown in the mix right now as he has missed early time in camp with a hamstring injury and is in a battle to merely make the 53 man roster at this point. He may be better suited for the practice squad as it looks right now, but there is quite a ways to go before that decision needs to be made.
Back to Fast Willie. It begs asking whether or not the Steelers would be interested in bringing back Parker should he be released from the Redskins in 4 plus weeks. Parker might be a bit more humbled after his free agent experience and be willing to come back on a one year deal to back up Mendenhall. Parker has a bad taste in his mouth, but clearly understands know he is no longer an every down starter in the NFL. He does however know the Steelers system and could help add some veteran presence at the position if he tucks his pride down deep.
Do I think it will happen? A little over a year ago, I wrote about how he would be running out of town following the season. I am not willing to say he will now be running back to the Steelers by no means, but it makes the most sense if indeed the Steelers are not happy with the depth at the position. Regardless, I do not think this post will be the last one you read before week 1 that links Parker back to the Steelers. Stay tuned! Poll question below.

Ed Bouchette reports that running back Frank Summers has been working out daily and is recovering nicely from back surgery. Summers could be in the plans as a short yardage guy if he has a great camp.
Bouchette also reports that head coach Mike Tomlin is not high on USC safety Taylor Mays and that with the offseason signings and re-signings, the Steelers no longer have an interest in drafting a safety on the first round.
Florida center Maurkice Pouncey has scheduled a pre draft visit and workout with the Steelers this month. Pouncey could work at guard and be the heir apparent at center when Justin Hartwig is done.
On Friday, Steelers free agent running back Willie Parker, signed a one-year contract with the Washington Redskins. Parker joins a crowded backfield of Clinton Portis and Larry Johnson, but did get Donovan McNabb as his new quarterback on Easter Sunday. Redskins new head coach Mike Shanahan has a history of going with the back with the hot hand that does not fumble, so Parker will indeed have a shot at starting at some point in 2010.
The Browns made a little noise on Friday as they sent backup linebacker Alex Hall and a fourth and fifth-round pick to the Eagles for cornerback Sheldon Brown and outside linebacker Chris Gocong. Both players should start in Cleveland's 3-4 defense.
Steelers.com continues their segment on draft day memories leading up to the 2010 draft. This week it is Mike Wallace who recants what that day almost a year was like for him.
