Ron Cook wrote this morning that Steelers defensive end Aaron Smith was told he would be out 8-9 weeks with partially torn triceps. That puts him perhaps returning for the Panthers game. Steelers right guard Trai Essex insists Flozell Adams will be starting the season at right tackle and noted that he has not lined up at right tackle one time in camp. Perhaps the biggest news to come out of the Thursday Mike Tomlin press conference was the word that Jonathan Scott would work at right tackle with the first-string offense after Flozell Adams exits. We broke down Adams 11 snaps earlier in the week and he was not even close with his pass blocking. Adams hopefully will improve leaps and bounds this week as we will be watching both very closely. Neither Maurkice Pouncey nor rookie running back Jonathan Dwyer is expected to be sidelined very long with their hamstring problems. Guard Ramon Foster could resume light workouts as early as today. Cornerback Ike Taylor, who will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2010 season, will not be a holdout when training camp opens, according John Harris, of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "Ike is going to honor his contract," said Herman Francois, Taylor's uncle. "That's the way he's been taught. He's going to come to work." Dawson filed for bankruptcy in the Eastern District of Kentucky United States Bankruptcy Court. We wish Dirt the best in his attempt to get reorganized financially.
