Day 9 of Steelers training camp got off to a great start when it was announced that LaMarr Woodely had signed a 6-year, $61 million dollar extension. Woodley was currently carrying the franchise tag that was set to pay him $10 million plus in 2011. The extension now means he is under contract through the 2016 season and he know will count around $6.35 million against the Steelers 2011 salary cap.

Day 6 of Steelers training camp is in the books and this post will serve as your daily recap of the comings and goings from Tuesday at Latrobe.
The morning started with the announcement that long snapper Greg Warren had agreed to terms. The Steelers only had one long snapper in camp in the form of Derek Chard and Warren now appears to be the odds on favorite to continue his role as the long snapper. Another item on the Steelers to-do list is to get their entire 2011 draft class under contract today. Draft picks this year must be signed to 4-year contracts and with a club option for a fifth year on first round draft pick Cameron Heyward. Dale Lolley reports via Twitter that few of the rookies appear to already have their contracts signed and it is expected that the Steelers will announce the signings later today or Friday.

As the lockout continues on, the small town of Latrobe waits to hear if the Steelers will once again be holding their training camp at Saint Vincent College this year.
Observer Reporter beat writer Dale Lolley went off on a small rant on Saturday as he is pretty fed up with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and wishes he would give the injury stuff a rest.
Former Bengals defensive back Artrell Hawkins will serve as a coaching intern with the Steelers in training camp whenever the lockout is over.

Jason La Canfora posted last night about the Steelers supposed want to move up to draft Mike Pouncey. Here is what I believe would be the cost to trade up and how I see this as a smoke screen mostly.
I came across this piece last night on South Carolina offensive tackle Jarriel King that goes over the trouble he has been in before and the heart condition he had, but seems to be over. King made a pre draft visit to Pittsburgh to visit with the Steelers.

John Harris wrote on Saturday that New York, Philadelphia, Denver, St. Louis, Arizona and Houston are some of the teams targeting Steelers free agent cornerback Ike Taylor.
Ed Bouchette has a look back at the Steelers 1971 draft that produced eight Super Bowl starters. I think we all can name them alphabetically by now.

Dale Lolley gives his reasons why the Steelers might be forced to draft a kicker because of the lockout. I say no way this happens and would be very surprised if a pick was spent on a specialist this year.
The Pouncey twins did an entertaining interview with ESPN’s "First Take" Wednesday to discuss their respective paths to the NFL.

Dale Lolley reported a little while ago that Alabama A&M nose tackle Frank Kearse and Louisville cornerback Johnny Patrick will make pre draft visits with the Steelers if the have not already. The Steelers have been more tight lipped this offseason about the players they bring to the South Side for official visits, but word continues to leak out. Lolley also confirmed earlier reports that Boise State wide receiver Austin Pettis and Utah State cornerback Curtis Marsh are two of the 30 allowed visitors the Steelers will have prior to the draft.
