The questions are rolling in about the Pittsburgh Steelers 2012 free agents so I threw together a quick rundown of the restricted, unrestricted and exclusive rights free agents as the Steelers head into the offseason. The 6 restricted free agents will all certainly be tendered with only Mike Wallace receiving a first round tender. The other 5 will receive the lowest one year tenders. These amounts have not yet been released and I will post those amounts later in the offseason when they are made known. Both exclusive right free agents have no choice but to accept their tender offers and they can't Read more [...]

We briefly discuss punter Daniel Sepulveda and his future with the Steelers going forward. We then move on and give our final thoughts on the Sunday night game against the Ravens and talk more about the Steelers and Ravens final offensive possessions and game the winning touchdown. To close out the first part of the podcast we start discussing the upcoming game against Read more [...]
The Steelers 2011 bye week is right around the corner in week 11 and what a welcomed sight it will be. Every team goes through injuries and the Steelers certainly have had their share of them this year with the lines and linebacker position taking the hardest hits thus far. As the Steelers head into their week 10 against the Bengals, they will likely do so without their sack leader LaMarr Woodley. Tomlin tried to paint an optimistic picture today during his press conference, but I do not see Woodley returning until after the bye with the bad hamstring injury. I suggested just after the injury Read more [...]
The Steelers placed punter Daniel Sepulveda on injured reserve on Saturday and signed back Jeremy Kapinos to take his place on the 53 man roster. Sepulveda suffered an injury to the knee of his plant leg on Friday and had been added to the injury report as questionable. It is the 3rd time that Sepulveda has been placed on injured reserve since being drafted by the Steelers in the 4th round of the 2007 draft. Through the first 8 games, Sepulveda managed a 46.1 gross average and a net average of 39.1 yards. 8 of his 25 punts were inside the opponents 20 yard-line. Sepulveda is once again scheduled Read more [...]
Season 2, Episode 39 of The Terrible Podcast is up and with David Todd caught in travel, I am joined by Steelers beat writers Dejan Kovacevic and Mark Kaboly from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review to talk Steelers Ravens 2. In my first interview with Dejan we go over the Friday injury and report and focus the first part on the defensive side of the ball and what the Steelers may and may not do scheme wise this week against the Ravens. Dejan does not think it is a slam dunk that the Steelers use all man coverage like they did last week against the Patriots, but does think that Ike Taylor could be Read more [...]
The Steelers wrapped up their Friday practice in preparation for the Sunday night game against the division rival Baltimore Ravens and the week ending injury report is now out with some good news. Linebacker James Harrison (eye) and tackle Jonathan Scott (ankle) are both probable after both worked again on Friday. Harrison looks likely to start at right outside linebacker after missing the last 4 games with a fractured orbital bone in his right eye. Guard Doug Legursky (toe) is of course out this week as he still recovers from the dislocated toe suffered against the Jaguars. Wide receiver Emmanuel Read more [...]

More Steelers Patriots Observations

I have gone back through the Steelers game against the New England Patriots now a few times and jotted down some more observations that I did not include in the post game recap. I do this every week as it is impossible to see everything just one or two times through a game. Many will judge off of a stat sheet and it is what sets this site apart from the rest as we actually watch the games more than just one time. Here we go. The Patriots were so protective against the long ball early on that is opened up the middle of the field for Heath Miller and Ben Roethlisberger took it. The Steelers Read more [...]

Steelers Beat Patriots 25-17 – Game Recap

It was a great day in Steeler Nation on Sunday as the Steelers knocked off the hated New England Patriots today at Heinz Field 25-17. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was 36 of 50 passing on the day for 365 yards and 2 touchdowns and he attempted 32 of them in the first half alone. The touchdown passes were to running back Mewelde Moore and Antonio Brown, the first of his career in the regular season. Tight end Heath Miller was a huge factor early in the game as the Patriots poor pass defense concentrated early on taking away the deep pass from Mike Wallace. Miller caught 4 of his 7 passes Read more [...]
Voting is now open for the 2012 Pro Bowl game that will be played Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012 at Aloha Stadium in Hawaii. The Steelers have several players you can vote for per the usual and here is the rundown of the players that can ve voted for on offense, defense and special teams. You can vote here. Steelers Offense: Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger - After a rough start against the Ravens he has really come on strong the last few weeks. Running Back Rashard Mendenhall - Certainly not the best start and he missed a game due to a hamstring injury. Fullback David Johnson - Plays both tight Read more [...]
Lost in the Steelers 5-2 start this year is the play of punter Daniel Sepulveda and the Steelers punt coverage teams. Through 7 games Sepulveda has punted 24 times for a 46.8 average. That his currently 3 full yards better than his career average of 43.8. His net average thus far is 39.4 and that too is better than his career net average of 38.3. Sepulveda has had the one block against the Titans however, the first of his career, but has dropped 8 inside the opponents 20 with 4 of them being downed and 2 being fair caught. He also has a career long this year of 66 and three in total over 60 Read more [...]

More Steelers Cardinals Observations

I have gone back through the game to do my initial breakdown and start some charting. Here are my expanded observations not mentioned in the game recap of the Steelers week 7 win over the Arizona Cardinals. What can you say about Mike Wallace that has not already been said and seen on tape? It amazes me how teams continue to give him free releases and fail to bracket over the top with a safety at times. The long touchdown Sunday was classic miscommunication it seemed and blown assignments mixed with Richard Marshall biting on play action. The Cardinals should have taken a timeout there as it Read more [...]

More Steelers Jaguars Observations

I have gone back through the game to do my initial breakdown and start some charting. Here are my expanded observations not mentioned in the game recap of the Steelers win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Up and down opening defensive series. LaMarr Woodley had key sack to stall the drive. At first I thought Mike Tomlin should have challenged the sideline catch by Jason Hill, but slowing it down, it would have been tough to over-turn. Great first series by the offense, good tempo, good blocking and good execution. Mike Wallace held block just long enough for Rashard Mendenhall to bounce outside Read more [...]

Steelers Escape Jaguars 17-13 – Game Recap

The Steelers started off good against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but could not put them away as the they escaped with a 17-13 win at Heinz Field today. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was 12 of 23 on the day passing and missed several easy throws as he finished with 200 yards passing. His lone touchdown pass went to Mike Wallace on a 28-yard pass in the second quarter. Running back Rashard Mendenhall returned from a one game absence and had 146 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown. His afternoon also included a 68 yard run and did not looked bothered by his hamstring. The Steelers defense Read more [...]
Steelers punter Daniel Sepulveda joined 93.7 The Fan yesterday to talk about the fake punt against the Titans this past week as well as what happened on the blocked punt later in the game. While we are talking punters, former Steelers punter Jeremy Kapinos worked out for the Jaguars this week, but was not signed. Kapinos reportedly has also worked out for the Patriots and Ravens since his release following the preseason. Chris Hoke was also on the radio this morning to talk about the his performance against the Titans ad the improvement in the run defense this past week. He gives his keys to Read more [...]

More Steelers Titans Observations

I just finished up going through the game again and below are more observations from the Steelers 38-17 win over the Tennessee Titans this afternoon. I understand the reason why Mike Tomlin put the defense out on the field to start the game but I do not agree with it. I get the message he is sending, but really would rather the offense take the ball instead. Just saying. The defense got off to a rough start on the very first play by the Titans as Chris Hoke was cut block and Chris Johnson went off left tackle for 21 yards. It was 1 of only 3 explosive plays allowed on the day however and Read more [...]
