We all got our wish this past Saturday night as Daniel Sepulveda got a chance to kickoff 5 times versus the New York Giants on the road. I compiled the 5 kickoffs below in a video and have listed the hang times that I clocked myself. You can look back at the video I did of Jeff Reed versus the Lions if you want to compare. The first kickoff included a penalty on Patrick Bailey for offsides and the second kickoff on the video is the re-kick from the 25 yard line. I thought his kicks were very consistent and his first, fourth and last kicks the best in my opinion. The Steelers will travel to the Read more [...]

Steelers Beat Giants 24-17 – Game Notes

The Steelers beat the New York Giants 24-17 in the 2nd preseason game of the 2010 season. Below are my notes and nuggets I kept on the game along with my observations. I have much more coming on this game and am working through the night. These are initial reactions of mine as I am about to watch the game a second time and begin working up tape selections. Below are the notes I compiled throughout the game. The team overall looked a little sluggish getting started. Camp finally breaking and traveling did not help. Let us hope Ike Taylor got that out of his system. Any how I gave Taylor the Read more [...]
Saturday the Steelers will travel to New York to play the Giants in the second preseason game of the 2010 season. Per my normal routine, I have listed below 10 things to look for Saturday heading into the game. Robo Kickoff Guy Watch #2? - Last week we were teased that Daniel Sepulveda could likely be allowed to kickoff against the Lions. It did not happen and as we showed on video this past week, nothing has changed with Jeff Reed and his kickoffs. This could be a huge step forward with special teams if Sepulveda can nail a few. Let's hope he gets quite a few chances to show what he has on Read more [...]

Saturday the Steelers will host the Detroit Lions to Heinz Field for the first preseason game of the 2010 season. We have listed below 10 things to look for Saturday heading into the game. Robo Kickoff Guy? - Daniel Sepulveda was allowed to kickoff last Friday under the lights and reportedly Mike Tomlin was happy with what he saw. Preseason is the perfect time to have a live game battle between Jeff Reed and Sepulveda for the rights to kickoff this year. I hope Robo punter gets a chance to become Robo kickoff specialist. Tomlin said it depends on how many kickoffs they get so hope for a ton Read more [...]
The most significant thing that came out of the Steelers Friday Night Lights practice in Latrobe last night was that punter Daniel Sepulveda was allowed to show what he could do on kickoffs. Sepulveda has been working on kickoffs for years now, and head coach Mike Tomlin finally let him show off what he had in relief of regular kicker Jeff Reed. Sepulveda kicked off four times during the second special teams period, to the liking of Tomlin. "Sepulveda may provide us with a legitimate option there," Tomlin said. Sepulveda slipped on his first attempt and still sent it eight yards into the end zone Read more [...]
It looks like the Steelers are indeed done with contracts for the offseason and once the season starts, no new deals are likely to be done, especially with the cloudy NFL labor situation. To the best of my calculations, the Steelers have 25 of 81 players on the final year of their current contract. I did not prioritize them below, but it is not hard to pick out those that are high profile moving forward. Those players would be: LaMarr Woodley, Ike Taylor, Jeff Reed and Daniel Sepulveda in my opinion. Dennis Dixon, Willie Colon and Trai Essex are fringe at this point. I have included a blurb on Read more [...]
Steelers defensive end Nick Eason said he should be close to full strength for training camp after missing the final two weeks of OTA practices following emergency an appendectomy in which part of his colon was also removed. Eason said he plans to keep his weight down following a loss of 28 pounds so it will be interesting to see what he looks like when he arrives at Latrobe. It is no secret that Mexico is Steeler Country and a few of the younger players got a taste of the International Steeler Nation at a one-day football camp in Mexico City last weekend. Mike Wallace, Ziggy Hood, Keenan Lewis Read more [...]
The biggest news on Tuesday was that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was back practicing with the team and looked loose and noticeably thinner according to reports. Ben did not address the media, but rumor is he might by the end of this OTA session. Byron Leftwich was an excused absence on Tuesday. Rookie wide receiver Antonio Brown and second-year cornerback Keenan Lewis went toe to toe during the Tuesday OTA session and had to be separated by teammates. Lewis is showing some feistiness from other reports this Spring and is battling hard to make the roster. This is welcomed news indeed after Read more [...]
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is not expected to attend mini camp, OTA practice Tuesday as the Steelers are still awaiting word from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on when he can re-join the team. Steelers linebackers James Harrison and Patrick Bailey took to the runway as models in a star-studded charity event. Pictures are posted at the link provided as well. Steelers defensive end Ziggy Hood and punter Daniel Sepulveda will take part in a youth football camp that the Steelers are hosting June 12 at Tecnologico de Monterrey, Santa Fe Campus, in Mexico City. The Steelers as most know have Read more [...]
The Steelers will find out Tuesday how many compensatory picks they will receive in this year's draft. You can view my projections I did on our picks a while ago as they are expected to receive picks for losing wide receiver Nate Washington, cornerback Bryant McFadden and quarterback Byron Leftwich in free agency last year. Not surprising in the least is that the word came out on Sunday that the Steelers have a pre draft visit set with Idaho guard Mike Iupati. Iupati will be a popular guy prior to the draft as several teams will have him as one of their 30 players to visit with. Director Read more [...]
If you missed the official news from the last few days on the Steelers restricted free agents, Steelers.com has all of the info on the tendering of Willie Colon, William Gay, Daniel Sepulveda and Matt Spaeth. The only player we do not have clarification on yet is exclusive rights free agent Patrick Bailey. Do not stay up late tonight says Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert. Colbert has said it will "be business as usual" for the Steelers when the new NFL year starts Friday. I doubt there will be a huge flurry league wide anyways. Teams will be much more calculated with the Read more [...]
Since being offered the second-highest tender to restricted free agent, the agent for Steelers right tackle Willie Colon, is posturing for a team to trade for or sign Colon away at a higher price tag than the tender of $2.521 million. You can't blame Joe Linta for trying, it is his job, but this is not likely to happen. Not much is going on with free agent safety Ryan Clark with the clock ticking down. Clark's agent, Joel Turner, told National Football Post that, "Right now, communication is open. We've agreed to stay in touch. Neither party has shut the door." Sounds like the Steelers think Read more [...]

The Steelers have tendered starting tackle Willie Colon and punter Daniel Sepulveda one-year contract offers on Tuesday. The amount tendered to Colon is $2,521,000 one year contract and allows the Steelers the chance to match another offer made to Colon by another team or receive a first-round 2010 draft pick. Punter Daniel Sepulveda received a one year tender of $1,101,000 and the chance to match any offer made to Sepulveda by another team. The Steelers have until Thursday to tender one-year contracts to their other restricted free agents if they so decide.
