Defensive Coordinator and newly inducted Hall of Famer Dick LeBeau returned to his coaching duties on Monday and spoke with the Pittsburgh media for the first time since his induction speech. He held court as only he can hold and turned an after practice interview into a must see. What a great man he is. Mark Kaboly talked to linebackers coach Keith Butler, who is rumored to be the heir apparent at defensive coordinator when Dick LeBeau finally retires in 25 more years. I am kidding about 25 years, but judging by his HOF speech, it is too early to even suggest when he might retire. Age is just Read more [...]
While at the Homeboys Football Camp at Ambridge High School, Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said the team is exploring options at right tackle with Willie Colon lost for the year and that includes free agents that might be released elsewhere. Also he thinks the top two draft picks Maurkice Pouncey and Jason Worilds will have their contracts done soon and be at camp on time. Speaking of Jason Worilds, Part 2 of the Ask The Steelers segment with the second round pick is up now on Steelers.com. Worilds says the team is tight knit, extremely tight knit. We shall see just how tight knit they are come Read more [...]
Santonio Holmes attorney, Adam B. Swickle, claims no one threw a liquor glass at a woman in the Orlando nightclub. Swickle has sent evidence that suggest a glass wasn't even thrown that night at Anshonae Mills. Swickle did not reveal what specific information he sent to investigators, but he does sound pretty convincing. ESPN Pittsburgh host, Ken Laird, wrote on his blog that he too does not see Santonio Holmes getting his contract extended and says he thinks Holmes would rather play in a big market as well. Laird also writes that Hines Ward plans on playing two more seasons provided he stays Read more [...]

The Steelers tendered two more restricted free agents on Wednesday as they gave both cornerback William Gay and tight end Matt Spaeth the lowest tenders of $1,101,000 for 2010. Free agency begins midnight Thursday and guard Darnell Stapleton and running back back Carey Davis will become unrestricted free agents at that time. Both are not expected to receive tender offers from the Steelers. No word yet on exclusive rights free agent Patrick Bailey, but all signs are pointing to him being retained at a third year players salary.

Mike Logan interviewed Steelers free agent free safety Ryan Clark yesterday on 1250 ESPN Pittsburgh radio. You can listen to the interview below. Clark claimed no contract offer has been made as of yet. Clark wants to return from the sounds of things, but also seems to have a bad taste in his mouth. [audio:http://a.espnradio.com/stations/pittsburgh/crow/Clark-301.mp3] Adam Caplan reported yesterday that the Steelers will not be making a restricted free agent tender offer to guard Darnell Stapleton. The Steelers have until Thursday to tender their restricted free agents and it is believed that Read more [...]
I wanted to clarify a few things for my readers regarding the 2010 Restricted Free Agents for the Steelers. First off, the Steelers have 6 restricted free agents and 1 Exclusive Rights Free Agent. The Exclusive Rights player is linebacker Patrick Bailey and he only has 2 accrued seasons, meaning the Steelers can keep him by offering him the minimum salary for a 3rd year player and he must accept the offer. The other Restricted Free Agents are then gauged by their accrued seasons. An accrued season is defined by a player having 6 or more regular-season games on a club’s active/inactive roster, Read more [...]
It's that time of year again. Here is a closer look at the 2010 Steelers free agents list as we head into the offseason. I listed the probability of their return with a brief summary of the player. The 3 most high profile free agents are Casey Hampton, Jeff Reed and Willie Colon. I also noted if they are restricted or unrestricted free agents. LB Patrick Bailey RFA – Bailey is a special teamer that registered 13 tackles on returns in 2009. He was also part of one of the worst Steelers special teams units in quite a while. Bailey is a coin flip at best to return in 2010. He could be re-signed Read more [...]

Dale Lolley reports that Troy Polamalu, Ryan Clark, Tyrone Carter, LaMarr Woodley James Harrison and Darnell Stapleton were all absent from the Wednesday OTA session. Also Hines Ward is still not participating in any team drills as he recovers from Read more [...]

Tomorrow's game against the New York Giants will be a huge measuring stick of where exactly the Steelers are in comparison to the rest of the league. The Steelers combined opponents record thus far is 13-24, with no opponent having better than a .500 record. Steelers Saturday Morning News Wire Wrap

Ben Roethlisberger is listed as questionable for Sunday night's game in Jacksonville, but should play. Virtual unknown Darnell Stapleton is expected to start at right guard Sunday night at Jacksonville while $7 million man Max Starks probably won’t play a down at tackle unless the injury bug bites again. Head coach Mike Tomlin said the Steelers will use a running back-by-committee approach, with a rotation that also will include Gary Russell, who was promoted from the practice squad four days ago, and perhaps Najeh Davenport, who was re-signed Tuesday after being released in June.
