Part 2 of the Ask The Steelers segment with veteran linebacker Larry Foote is now up on Steelers.com. Foote says the Detroit locker room was an awkward situation last season and says you can’t compare it to Pittsburgh.

Just got early word this morning that the Steelers have signed 5th round draft pick guard Chris Scott and waived undrafted rookie S Da'mon Cromartie Smith on Wednesday. I will have more on this shortly.

To make room for the recently signed draft picks and get down to the league mandated roster limit of 80, the Steelers released 7 players on Tuesday. Those players released were: wide receiver Jason Chery, kicker Piotr Czech, linebacker Derrick Doggett, punter Adam Graessle, nose tackle Cordarrow Thompson, center Bradley Vierling and cornerback Trae Williams. The Steelers have 4 draft picks yet to be signed and are currently down to 79 players under contract on the active roster with wide receiver Limas Sweed on the injured reserve list.

If you missed the interview I did with newly signed CFL linebacker Derrick Doggett, you can read it here. Doggett told me the Steelers plan to try him as a linebacker instead of a safety.
Tim Graham of ESPN has a short article on new offensive line coach Sean Kugler. Graham reports the Bills offensive-line woes in 2009 weren't Kugler's fault.

The Steelers signed linebacker Derrick Doggett to a futures contract on Tuesday. Doggett has played for the last two season in the CFL and most recently for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were he established himself as the one of the leagues top special teams players in 2009 and proved he can be a solid linebacker as well. Doggett played his college ball at Oregon State. Steelers Depot caught up with him and he was gracious enough to answer a few questions for us.

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu will be in a second quarter Super Bowl commercial for the cable channel truTV. The spot will promote "NFL Full Contact," a new show promising a behind-the-scenes view of professional football. Let's hope there is no jinx like the Head and Shoulders/Madden/Coke Zero jinx of 2009.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers special teams demon and backup linebacker Derrick Doggett signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers after working out for them on Tuesday. CFL players going into their option year are eligible to sign with NFL squads until Feb. 15. Doggett, who played his college football for at Oregon State and joined the Bombers in late July and made an immediate impact on special teams. Doggett had 27 special teams tackles in 15 games. He also had nine tackles, one interception and one forced fumble on defense.
