Season 2, Episode 13 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I get a great preview of the Baltimore Ravens from John Eisenberg of CSNBaltimore.com. John brings us up to date on everything that has happened with the Ravens from hatchet day when the team released Todd Heap, Derrick Mason, et al, right up to the Ravens practice on Wednesday. There is tons of back-and-forth and John provides some excellent insight into both the personnel groupings and formations we can expect to see from the Ravens on Sunday. This is one of the best team previews we've had, be sure to check it out. You can

It should come as no big surprise that the Ravens acquired veteran wide receiver Lee Evans from Buffalo today in a trade. I posted last night on Twitter that this was my guess as the Ravens lack experience at the wide receiver spot after dumping Derrick Mason and failing to land Malcom Floyd. Before the trade the Ravens only had rookies Torrey Smith and Tandon Doss to go along with Anquan Boldin, so the move was not hard call.
The Ravens will attempt to use Evans much in the way the Steelers use Mike Wallace. He is a vertical threat receiver used to strike for big plays and take the top off

The Steelers have started to agree to terms with a few undrafted free agents and you can view the signings here. So far the list includes Anthony Gray, Weslye Saunders, Miguel Chavis, Terrence McCrae, Adam Mims and Colin Miller. As I caution in the post though, none of these should be considered official until the Steelers release the names later this week.
The official NFL calendar has been released and team facilities will open today so players can report for physicals and voluntary strength and conditioning. Teams may negotiate with and sign their own draft picks and undrafted rookie free

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Derrick Mason is the latest to chime in on the Steelers-Ravens offseason smack talk when he tweeted in the direction of Steelers safety Ryan Clark yesterday. Mason tweeted, “I think Ryan Clark is cool ppl and a good player but RYAN let's keep the talking on the field. If the league wants to call this game a rival, Let them call it that! When we play each other it's good for football bc you know there will b a lot of hard hittin going on."
Mason is of course referring to the comments Clark made this past Tuesday during his weekly appearance on 93.7 The Fan. Clark

Not that the week one meeting between the Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens needed anything else to spice it up, but Steelers safety Ryan Clark and Ravens running back Ray Rice did just that on Twitter Saturday night.
The tweet smack started after Rice commented on the DUI arrest yesterday morning of wide receiver Hines Ward. Rice tweeted yesterday afternoon: "Well it looks like Hines Ward will miss week 1 when the lockout ends DUI charge not a good look"
Clark responded to Rice tweet later in the evening with: "So glad you could Weigh in.Thx" Rice responded back with: "it's whatever u wanna

The Terrible Podcast is up and in this episode David Todd and I do our best to avoid the labor situation all together. Nothing new there, so nothing to talk about. There was, however, some news from Adam Schefter regarding free agency. Players in their fifth and sixth seasons will be unrestricted free agents going forward and we take a look at who that impacts on this current Steelers team.
With Plaxico Burress and Tiki Barber both being tied to the Steelers again in recent rumors, we discuss whether either player would actually be a good fit for the team if the Steelers were in fact interested

Former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis was down in Jacksonville at a Latitude 30 bowling alley grand opening and said he thinks the owners and players will reach deal soon. Bettis was checking out the bowling alley as he is planning to open one in Pittsburgh.
The big news on Monday was the announcement that former Steelers safety Carnell Lake was named the new Steelers defensive backs coach. Steeler Nation welcomes him back with open arms.
Hines Ward was on WCNN radio in Atlanta for an interview to talk about his upcoming Dancing with the Stars contest and the preparation involved. He

If you have not seen it yet, you have to watch the most recent Sound FX of the Steelers Ravens Divisional Playoff Game from this past Saturday night in Pittsburgh at Heinz Field. There are some great sound bytes from Dick LeBeau, Hines Ward, James Farrior, Ben Roethlisberger and Mike Tomlin. It is also fun to hear Ravens wide receiver Derrick Mason mic'ed up and cry like a baby about being held. Watch the Sound FX video below or on NFL.com here.

This game might be more important to the Steelers than it is the Ravens because a loss by the Steelers almost assures them not winning the AFC North division. If the Ravens lose, they are just one game back, where as if the Steelers lose, they are two back on head-to-head tie breakers The Steelers lost in week 4 on a last minute touchdown by wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh and the Steelers offense blew a chance to put the Ravens away late bin the game by committing crucial penalties and failing to convert just one more first down to run out the clock. This will be a measuring stick for the Steelers

The Steelers wrapped up practice preparations on Friday for their week 13 game against the Ravens on Sunday night in Baltimore. QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) was limited for a 3rd straight day and is listed as questionable on the injury report. Baring a setback, he should be good to go. T Flozell Adams (back), DE Nick Eason (knee), DE Brett Keisel (calf), CB Bryant McFadden (hamstring) and S Troy Polamalu (ankle) all practiced fully on Friday and all are listed as probable. TE Matt Spaeth (concussion) will miss his second straight game as he is out this week with a concussion. CB Keenan Lewis practiced

It is hard to believe that after this past weekend’s Pro Football Hall of Fame inductions that only 21 receivers are currently enshrined in Canton. The latest was a no-brainer, first ballot enshrine in Jerry Rice. That discussion should have lasted all of 2 minutes as Rice’s stats dwarf everyone both active and retired.
Every year following the induction ceremonies, the talk begins of next year’s class as well as current players chances of one day getting a bust of their own. Several Steelers come to mind with the list being led by Jerome Bettis, Dermontti Dawson and Hines Ward. I have

The biggest news today is that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has agreed to a three-year contract extension. Tomlin's new contract extension will carry him through 2014. His original contract when the Steelers hired him in 2007, had one year and an option left on it. Ed Bouchette also writes that football operations director Kevin Colbert as he is in the final year of his contract.
In other big news from Monday, ESPN James Walker reported that Steelers outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley will not be given an extension before this season starts. The Steelers normally do not negotiate contracts

As Ben Roethlisberger's version of the events that took place in Milledgeville, Ga hit our Twitter account yesterday, it really has not and will not help his cause in my opinion. I hope there is evidence of her falling and hitting her head on her on accord. Every day it seems a new twist comes out that does not help Ben's cause unlike the Nevada case where everything that came out discredited the accuser. A long way to go on this one.
The 20-year-old woman who has accused Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of sexual assault plans on returning to Georgia College and State University

Mike Tomlin said it best following the Steelers 23-20 win on Sunday versus the Baltimore Ravens. Not dead yet! That is pretty much the long and short of it following an afternoon of some good and bad Steelers football. The Steelers defense, who had been responsible for several 4th quarter collapses this season, did not surrender any 4th quarter points to the Ravens today. The defense forced some turnovers and was aided by several Ravens miscues and penalties. The Ravens committed 11 penalties for 113 yards on the day. One resulted in a negating a Willis McGahee touchdown and following a few more

Former Steelers running backs Rocky Bleier and Franco Harris will hold a dinner fundraiser at Heinz Field on Sept. 11 for the Flight 93 National Memorial. Their goal is for the $58 million memorial to open on Sept. 11, 2011 on the spot in western Pennsylvania where the plane crashed.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and his foundation will donate $8,000 to the Jeannette Police Department for help in upkeep of their police dog.
