Steelers Sign G/C John Malecki To Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers filled their open spot on the practice squad today by signing guard John Malecki. There was an open spot after running back John Clay was signed to the 53 man roster on Friday because of the shortage of running backs. Clay was signed and cornerback Curtis Brown was placed on injured reserve. The shortage at running back was due to running back Mewelde Moore being sidelined for the next couple of weeks after suffering an MCL sprain against the San Francisco 49ers. Moore missed the Saturday game against the St. Louis Rams and will likely be out again this coming Sunday against Read more [...]

More Steelers Rams Game Observations

The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the St. Louis Rams 27-0 Saturday at Heinz Field and improved their record to 11-4 on the season. I have made it back through the game again twice and here are my further observations from the game not included in the regular game recap. The opening stop of Rams running back Steven Jackson by Troy Polamalu, as he blew by the attempted block of wide receiver Danario Alexander, set the tone for the type of day he would have. Polamalu finished the game with 6 total tackles, second most on the team. he was all over the field Saturday. Ike Taylor would have had the Read more [...]

Steelers Shutout Rams 27-0 – Game Recap

The Pittsburgh Steelers notched their second shutout of the season on Saturday at Heinz Field with their 27-0 win over the St. Louis Rams. The win moves the Steelers to 11-4 on the season and they remain in second place in the AFC North after the Baltimore Ravens held off a late charge by the Cleveland Browns today. Veteran quarterback Charlie Batch, who started in place of the ailing Ben Roethlisberger, was 15 of 22 passing on the day for 208 yards in the game. He had just one interception on the day on a ball intended for wide receiver Antonio Brown. Both Batch and Brown had slips on that Read more [...]
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met the media following their 27-0 win over the St. Louis Rams at Heinz Field. Tomlin said he particularly liked the effort of Trai Essex today as he he played center most of the game after Doug Legursky went down injured. Tomlin says he tips his hat to him. Tomlin said Legursky suffered a shoulder strain and could have went back in if it was necessary. Tomlin said rookie Marcus Gilbert was less than professional in his preparation this week and that was the reason Jonathan Scott started at right tackle. Tomlin said he will see where the week takes them Read more [...]

Prediction Of Week 16 Steelers Inactives Against The Rams

The Pittsburgh Steelers take on the St. Louis Rams today at Heinz Field as they look to move to 11-4 on the season. The inactives for this week are pretty easy to decipher with three players already ruled out on the Friday injury report. The Steelers will once again likely dress all three quarterbacks for this game as well. As I do every week, here is the prediction of the 7 game inactives for Saturday and a few notes on each of the players. The official inactive list of players will be announced 90 minutes before kickoff and I will have them posted on the site as soon as they are announced. RB Read more [...]

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) and linebacker LaMarr Woodley (hamstring) are listed as questionable. Woodley was limited again on Friday. It was announced Read more [...]
The week 15 offensive line breakdown report for the Pittsburgh Steelers loss Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers is now complete and overall it was not a good night as far as pass protection went up the middle and on the left side as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had pass rushers on him quite a bit and not a lot of room to step up into the pocket with his lead bad ankle. The pass protection started off OK, but deteriorated, especially in the second half. The run blocking was adequate, just not great. The Pittsburgh Steelers take on the San Francisco 49ers tonight at Candlestick Park as they look to move to 11-3 on the season and move a step closer to locking up the #1 seed in the AFC. The inactives this week are pretty easy to decipher with three players already ruled out on the Saturday injury report and one suspended for the week. There really is just one spot I think we have to make an educated guess on. As I do every week, here is the prediction of the 7 game inactives for tonight and a few notes on each of the players. The official list will be announced 90 minutes before kickoff. S Read more [...]
The Monday night game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Francisco 49ers will be short several key players as the Steelers will be without center Maurkice Pouncey, linebacker James Harrison and possibly even quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and the 49ers look to be missing their best linebacker Patrick Willis. Should the Baltimore Ravens lose Sunday night to the San Diego Chargers, the Steelers will have a chance to take back over the lead in the AFC North with a win. The 49ers are still fighting to preserve a first round bye in the playoffs and recover from their loss last week against Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up their final practice preparations on Friday in preparation for their week 15 game Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park and the final injury report of the week was released today. Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (foot), linebacker Chris Carter (hamstring) and center Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) all were ruled out on Saturday for the game Monday night. Doug Legursky will get the start at center Monday night and that means Trai Essex will start at left guard. They laughed, they fought, they cried. Well maybe not exactly, but in Episode 57 of season two of The Terrible Podcast, David Todd and I have some laughs and some disagreements as we discuss the Pittsburgh Steelers upcoming Monday night game with the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park. As usual we start with the injury report and the status of Ben Roethlisberger, Maurkice Pouncey Emmanuel Sanders and Troy Polamalu and who we think will and will not play. We debate who should start at quarterback if Ben can't go and at left guard if Doug Legursky has to move to center and what the team should Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers were once again on the practice field Friday getting ready for their week 15 game Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park. The Friday injury report is now out and once again center Maurkice Pouncey (ankle), wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (foot), safety Troy Polamalu (hamstring), linebacker Chris Carter (hamstring) all did not participate in practice for a second straight day. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) was very limited today according to reports as he looks to try to recover from his high left ankle sprain suffered last Thursday night Read more [...]
Scott Brown is reporting via Twitter that Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians announced today during his session with the media that veteran Charlie Batch would start Monday night at quarterback against the San Francisco 49ers should starter Ben Roethlisberger not be able to play with his sprained left ankle. Arians also said that Trai Essex would get the start at left guard should center Maurkice Pouncey not be able to play Monday night because of his sprained left ankle. Both Roethlisberger and Pouncey were injured last week in the first half of the Steelers 14-3 win over the Read more [...]
The week 14 offensive line breakdown report for the Pittsburgh Steelers win over the Cleveland Browns is now complete and overall it was not a bad performance by the group. The 6 penalties were of course the down points, but overall the pass protection was pretty solid on the night and they run blocking was above the line sans the 4 plays down at the Browns goal-line. Here we go with a look at the performances. TOTAL POSPLAYER PLAYSGOOD BADGOOD % SP H TETrai Essex 330 100%00 0 CMaurkice Pouncey 24231 96%00 0 LTMax Starks 58535 91%01 0 Read more [...]
