Ed Bouchette has a recap of the Steelers Sunday seven-play live goal-line drill. Isaac Redman, Jonathan Dwyer, Justin Vincent and Dwayne Wright each scored once in the drill. Redman was stopped once and Dwyer twice. Rashard Mendenhall was not used, although he remains in the mix for the short-yardage job.
John Harris recaps the tough start to camp that Jonathan Dwyer has had since he injured his hamstring during the second practice on the first day of his first NFL training camp. Dwyer has a lot to learn in a short time in order to make the 53 man roster.

I Twittered a link on Saturday about how wide receiver Antwaan Randle El is ready for his second time playing in Pittsburgh. El was at his Sound Mind Sound Body Football Academy Saturday morning and said that Redskins owner Dan Snyder was too hands on with the team during his stay in Washington. El also was offered deals from Baltimore and New England, but chose to come back where he started instead.
Jim Wexell has a snapshot article on seventh-round draft pick Doug Worthington out of Ohio State. Worthington talks about how he is getting mentoring from fellow Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel,

Several people have emailed me asking about the contracts signed by rookie draft picks Thaddeus Gibson & Doug Worthington. Both signed 3 year contracts and are identical in base salaries. Gibson had the much higher signing bonus of the two as expected as he was drafted in the 4th round versus Worthington who was a 7th round pick. Of course there is no salary cap in 2010, but I have broken down the players contracts by year and salary cap charge for future reference.

In so many words Thursday, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin named Byron Leftwich the team's No. 1 quarterback Thursday following the conclusion of offseason practices. Dennis Dixon will be No. 2 followed by Charlie Batch. Scott Brown speculates that Dixon would have to play lights out during the preseason to unseat Leftwich as the No. 1. That is not impossible mind you, but unprobable.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had glowing words for first-round draft pick Maurkice Pouncey on Thursday saying Pouncey could be a candidate to start at right guard and still a candidate for center as well. Tomlin

The Steelers signed their second draft pick on Thursday as seventh-round defensive lineman Doug Worthington was signed to a three-year deal on Thursday. The contract is believed to include a $33,000 signing bonus and total out at almost $1.25 million dollars over the three years. Worthington was drafted with the 242nd overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft after he started 35 games for Ohio State on the defensive line. He recorded 103 tackles, including 12 for a loss and 4.5 quarterback sacks. Worthington set career-highs for the Buckeyes in 2009 with 42 tackles and 2 quarterback sacks.

Well the release has come out of the new jersey uniform numbers for the Steelers latest 2010 class of rookies to join the team.
Some interesting notes:
If I am Antonio Brown, I take that #14 to a priest and let him exorcise the demons from it.
Not many choices left for #1 draft pick, Maurkice Pouncey. #52 is surely off limits although not retired.
Doug Worthington running around in Greg Lloyd's #95 will look weird.
Looks like Virginia Tech DT Demetrius Taylor is indeed a fullback now with #38. That should be fun to watch.
While it needs to be updated, here is the Steelers All-Time

The Steelers 2010 draft is now in the books. The 3 day event started slow paced on day 1 and 2, but day 3 was a whirlwind. I am still trying to catch up and will likely work through the mid morning. It was an old school draft so to speak. "In Colbert We Trust", I need to always remind myself this. I started to lose the faith after Friday night, but after the 4 rounds on Saturday, everything makes much more sense. Here is a quick recap.
Round 1 was as good as pick as any, especially if you like versatile offensive linemen. Florida center Maurkice Pouncey should be with Steelers for a long time.
