Teresa Varley has a great piece up on steelers.com about Pittsburgh Steelers rookie cornerback Curtis Brown and the tough path he has traveled getting to the NFL. It really shows how Brown has overcome adversity throughout his life. Varley also had a chance to talk with former Steelers draft pick and NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock prior to him calling the Thursday night game. Mayock was drafted in the 10th round of the 1981 draft and his father was also drafted by the Steelers in the 50's. Mayock talks about his brief time with the black and gold. Ed Bouchette joined 93.7 The Fan to discuss Read more [...]
An interesting tidbit came out tonight during the ESPN premier airing of "The Marinovich Project", a documentary about former 1991 first round draft pick Todd Marinovich. The film covers the life of Marinovich from a child up through his exit from the NFL and beyond. It is well worth seeing if you get a chance. Late in the film Marinovich talks about life after his release from the Los Angeles Raiders after being suspended for the 1993 season for failing his third NFL drug test. He says he decided he wanted to try to play again in 1994 after being away from game and is filmed saying he got a Read more [...]

Ed Bouchette is reporting this morning that Steelers nose tackle Chris Hoke needs neck surgery and will be lost for the rest of the season. Bouchette notes that this could also be the end of the line for Hoke after 11 seasons in the NFL, all with the Steelers. Head coach Mike Tomlin said Monday in his press conference that Hoke was being re-examined by a doctor yesterday because of problems with his neck. Hoke has had problems with his neck after suffering stingers very close together with the latest coming in week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was reported in late October that Hoke Read more [...]

Concussions, The NFL And The Steelers

(Written by Christina L. Rivers) Concussions or traumatic brain injuries have always been a part of contact sports, especially the NFL.  The league created the first set of guidelines on return-to-play rules after a medical conference was held to specifically address this type of injury.  During that time, the NFL’s policy was that a player could not return to a game or practice if he lost consciousness.  That player must also be completely asymptomatic and pass neurological tests before returning to play.  The league stepped up their efforts in August of 2009, when NFL executives Read more [...]
The official game release is up for the Steelers week 12 Sunday night game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and as always it is loaded with great information, stats and milestones. Head coach Mike Tomlin resumed his normal Tuesday press conference yesterday as the Steelers returned from the bye and Tomlin also resumed his normal guest spot on Sirius XM Radio as he joined Adam Schein and Rich Gannon. The hot topic today will be the reversal of the Jermaine Gresham touchdown in the Bengals Ravens game. Here is the video of the play. The Bengals of course ended up losing and the Steelers are now in second in the division behind the Ravens. Regardless of what happens tonight in the Patriots game against the Chiefs, the Steelers would be the 5th seed if the season ended Monday night and they would play the Raiders in one of the Wild Card games. The Bengals would also qualify as the 6th seed and give the AFC North 3 teams in the playoffs. Mark Kaboly takes a close look at the success of the Read more [...]
A few reports coming out this morning on Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as Ed Bouchette first reported that Roethlisberger suffered a right thumb injury against the Bengals this past Sunday. Scott Brown tweeted not long after that it is a broken right thumb and both report that the injury will not keep him out of the Sunday night game against the Chiefs following the bye. Bouchette says it is the same type of injury that Roethlisberger had back in 2005 and that he is now wearing a splint now and treating it with electrode stimulation. It was observed that Roethlisberger was shaking Read more [...]

James Farrior Could Miss More Time With Torn Calf

Farrior was inactive yesterday against the Patriots, so Larry Foote started in his place and Stevenson Sylvester started along side him in the Steelers base defense. Farrior injured his calf against the Cardinals. In addition to Farrior, outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley looks to be questionable this week after suffering a hamstring injury yesterday. Woodley is claiming he will be fine and referred to the injury as a cramp. He remained sidelined however after leaving the game. There Read more [...]
If you have not checked out the new Steelers Nation 24 hour radio station, you really are missing a treat. It can also be heard via the IHeartRadio app as well. I love it. Nick Richetta sat in for David Todd on the latest episode of The Terrible Podcast and we previewed the New England Patriots game in depth. Ed Bouchette writes that the slow start that Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall has gotten off to might cost him when it comes time to talk contract extension. In my opinion, there is no guarantee he gets extended prior to the start of the 2012 season. Mike Reiss reports that Read more [...]
